Acquiring a set of features that emphasize the differences between normal data points and outliers can drastically facilitate the task of identifying outliers. In our work, we present a novel non-parametric evaluation criterion for filter-based feature selection which has an eye towards the final goal of outlier detection. The proposed method seeks the subset of features that represent the inherent characteristics of the normal dataset while forcing outliers to stand out, making them more easily distinguished by outlier detection algorithms. Experimental results on real datasets show the advantage of our feature selection algorithm compared with popular and state-of-the-art methods. We also show that the proposed algorithm is able to overcome the small sample space problem and perform well on highly imbalanced datasets. Furthermore, due to the highly parallelizable nature of the feature selection, we implement the algorithm on a graphics processing unit （GPu） to gain significant speedup over the serial version. The benefits of the GPu implementation are two-fold, as its performance scales very well in terms of the number of features, as well as the number of data points.

Determining how cells regulate their transcriptional response toextracellular signals is key to the understanding of complex eukaryotic systems. This study wasinitiated with the goals of furthering the study of mammalian transcriptional regulation andanalyzing the relative benefits of related computational methodologies. One dataset available forsuch an analysis involved gene expression profiling of the early growth factor response to plateletderived growth factor (PDGF) in a human glioblastoma cell line; this study differentiated geneswhose expression was regulated by signaling through the phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K) versus theextracellular-signal regulated kinase (ERK) pathways. We have compared the inferred transcriptionfactors from this previous study with additional predictions of regulatory transcription factorsusing two alternative promoter sequence analysis techniques. This comparative analysis, in which thealgorithms predict overlapping, although not identical, sets of factors, argues for meticulousbenchmarking of promoter sequence analysis methods to determine the positive and negative attributesthat contribute to their varying results. Finally, we inferred transcriptional regulatory networksderiving from various signaling pathways using the CARRIE program suite. These networks not onlyincluded previously described transcriptional features of the response to growth signals, but alsopredicted new regulatory features for the propagation and modulation of the growth signal.

We report new sHRIMP zircon u-Pb ages,zircon Lu-Hf isotopic and whole rock geochemical data from Permian granitoids located in the Alxa area of Inner Mongolia,*** combination with published geochronological and geochemical data,the granitoids in the region can be divided into two age groups:ca.285 Ma and ca.269 *** granitoids of the first group are mainly composed of calc-alkaline to high-K calc-alkaline,weakly peraluminous Ⅰ-type granodiorites with ε_(Hf)(t)values of-19.6 to-4.3,which demonstrates evidence of crustal reworking;the granitoids of the second group,however,mainly consist of A-type granites that are high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonite,metaluminous to weakly peraluminous,and have high 10,000×Ga/Al ratios(2.59-3.12)and ε_(Hf)(t)values ranging from-11.3 to-2.7,all of which demonstrates a mixed crust-mantle *** interpret the granitoids of the first group to have formed during the subduction of Central Asian oceanic crust and the second group to have formed by the asthenospheric upwelling caused by the formation of slab windows during late ocean ridge subduction.

Fighting shots are the highlights of action movies and an effective approach to discriminating fighting shots is very useful for many applications, such as movie trailer construction, movie content filtering, and movie content retrieval. In this paper, we present a novel method for this task. Our approach first extracts the reliable motion information of local invariant features through a robust keypoint tracking computation; then foreground keypoints are distinguished from background keypoints by a sophisticated voting process; further, the parameters of the camera motion model is computed based on the motion information of background keypoints, and this model is then used as a reference to compute the actual motion of foreground keypoints; finally, the corresponding feature vectors are extracted to characterizing the motions of foreground keypoints, and a support vector machine （sVM） classifier is trained based on the extracted feature vectors to discriminate fighting shots. Experimental results on representative action movies show our approach is very effective.

Various Mo-base alloys with high melting temperature were processed into ribbons and foils by the arc melt-spinning and the arc melt hammer-anvil technique. The preparation of ribbon and foil was introduced. The mechanical proper- ties, the surface topology and the microstructure of rapidly solidified Mo-base alloys containing B were examined. A strong grain refinement and a strong age-hardening response were observed on the as-quenched and the age specimens, the precipitates which cause age hardening were identified to be Mo_2B in Mo-B alloys, Mo_2B and ZrB_2 in Mo-Zr-B alloys, and Mo_2B and ThB_4 in Mo-Th-B alloys. The results indicate that the high strength Mo-base alloys containing boride precipitates can be developed by rapid solidifica- tion technique.
