Contrast-enhanced guided endoscopic ultrasound procedures

Contrast-enhanced endoscopic ultrasound(CH-EUS)can overcome the limi-tations of endoscopic ultrasound-guided acquisition by identifying microvessels inside inhomogeneous tumours and improving the characterization of these tumours.Despite the initial enthusiasm that oriented needle sampling under CH-EUS guidance could provide better diagnostic yield in pancreatic solid lesions,further studies did not confirm the supplementary values in cases of tissue acquisition guided by CH-EUS.This review details the knowledge based on the available data on contrast-guided procedures.The indications for CH-EUS tissue acquisition include isoechoic EUS lesions with poor visible delineation where CH-EUS can differentiate the lesion vascularisation from the surrounding parenchyma and also the mural nodules within biliopancreatic cystic lesions,which occur in select cases.Additionally,the roles of CH-EUS-guided therapy in patients whose pancreatic fluid collections or bile ducts that have an echogenic content have indications for drainage,and patients who have nonvisualized vessels that need to be highlighted via Doppler EUS are presented.Another indication is represented if there is a need for an immediate assessment of the post-radiofrequency ablation of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours,in which case CH-EUS can be used to reveal the incomplete tumour destruction.

Owing to the persisting hype in pushing toward global carbon neutrality,the study scope of atmospheric science is rapidly expanding.Among numerous trending topics,energy meteorology has been attracting the most attention hitherto.One essential skill of solar energy meteorologists is solar power curve modeling,which seeks to map irradiance and auxiliary weather variables to solar power,by statistical and/or physical means.In this regard,this tutorial review aims to deliver a complete overview of those fundamental scientific and engineering principles pertaining to the solar power curve.Solar power curves can be modeled in two primary ways,one of regression and the other of model chain.Both classes of modeling approaches,alongside their hybridization and probabilistic extensions,which allow accuracy improvement and uncertainty quantification,are scrutinized and contrasted thoroughly in this review.

Learning tasks as a possible treatment for DNA lesions induced by oxidative stress in hippocampal neurons

Reactive oxygen species have been implicated in conditions ranging from cardiovascular dysfunc- tion, arthritis, cancer, to aging and age-related disorders. The organism developed several path- ways to counteract these effects, with base excision repair being responsible for repairing one of the major base lesions （8-oxoG） in all organisms. Epidemiological evidence suggests that cognitive stimulation makes the brain more resilient to damage or degeneration. Recent studies have linked enriched environment to reduction of oxidative stressin neurons of mice with Alzheimer＇s dis- ease-like disease, but given its complexity it is not clear what specific aspect of enriched environ- ment has therapeutic effects. Studies from molecular biology have shown that the protein p300, which is a transcription co-activator required for consolidation of memories during specific learning tasks, is at the same time involved in DNA replication and repair, playing a central role in the long-patch pathway of base excision repair. Based on the evidence, we propose that learning tasks such as novel object recognition could be tested as possible methods of base excision repair fa- cilitation, hence inducing DNA repair in the hippocampal neurons. If this method proves to be effec- tive, it could be the start for designing similar tasks for humans, as a behavioral therapeutic com- plement to the classical drug-based therapy in treating neurodegenerative disorders.

New statistical results on the optical IDV data of BL Lac S5 0716+714

This paper reports on the statistical behavior of the optical Intraday Variability of BL Lac S5 0716＋714. Available Intraday Variability data in the opti- cal are tested to see whether or not the magnitude is lognormally distributed. Our results consistently indicate that this is not the case. This is in agreement with a previ- ous discussion about data for the same object but in a different observational period. Simultaneously, the spectral slope of the light curves is calculated. The implications of these findings on models that describe both the location and source of Intraday Variability are presented.

Lower bounds on the minimum distance in Hermitian one-point differential codes

Korchmáros and Nagy [Hermitian codes from higher degree places. J Pure Appl Algebra, doi: 10. 1016/j.jpaa.2013.04.002, 2013] computed the Weierstrass gap sequence G(P) of the Hermitian function field Fq2( H ) at any place P of degree 3, and obtained an explicit formula of the Matthews-Michel lower bound on the minimum distance in the associated differential Hermitian code CΩ(D, mP ) where the divisor D is, as usual, the sum of all but one 1-degree Fq2-rational places of Fq2( H ) and m is a positive integer. For plenty of values of m depending on q, this provided improvements on the designed minimum distance of CΩ(D, mP). Further improvements from G(P) were obtained by Korchmáros and Nagy relying on algebraic geometry. Here slightly weaker improvements are obtained from G(P) with the usual function-field method depending on linear series, Riemann-Roch theorem and Weierstrass semigroups. We also survey the known results on this subject.

Poincaré's Lemma on Some Non-Euclidean Structures

The author proves the Poincar′e lemma on some(n + 1)-dimensional corank1 sub-Riemannian structures, formulating the(n-1)n(n^2+3 -2)/8 necessarily and sufficient y "curl-vanishing" compatibility conditions. In particular, this result solves partially an open problem formulated by Calin and Chang. The proof in this paper is based on a Poincar′e lemma stated on Riemannian manifolds and a suitable Ces`aro-Volterra path integral formula established in local coordinates. As a byproduct, a Saint-Venant lemma is also provided on generic Riemannian manifolds. Some examples are presented on the hyperbolic space and Carnot/Heisenberg groups.

In this paper,we consider numerical and trigonometric series with a very general monotonicity condition.First,a fundamental decomposition is established from which the sufficient parts of many classical results in Fourier analysis can be derived in this general setting.In the second part of the paper a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniform convergence of sine series is proved generalizing a classical theorem of Chaundy and Jolliffe.

Stretching surface in rotating viscoelastic fluid

The boundary layer flow over a stretching surface in a rotating viscoelastic fluid is considered. By applying a similarity transformation, the governing partial differ- ential equations are converted into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations before being solved numerically by the Keller-box method. The effects of the viscoelastic and rotation parameters on the skin friction coefficients and the velocity profiles are thor- oughly examined. The analysis reveals that the skin friction coefficients and the velocity in the x-direction increase as the viscoelastic parameter and the rotation parameter in- crease. Moreover, the velocity in the y-direction decreases as the viscoelastic parameter and the rotation parameter increase.

Under a first order moment condition on the immigration mechanism,we show that an appropriately scaled supercritical and irreducible multi-type continuous state and continuous time branching process with immigration(CBI process)converges almost surely.If an x log(x)moment condition on the branching mechanism does not hold,then the limit is zero.If this x log(x)moment condition holds,then we prove L1 convergence as well.The projection of the limit on any left non-Perron eigenvector of the branching mean matrix is vanishing.If,in addition,a suitable extra power moment condition on the branching mechanism holds,then we provide the correct scaling for the projection of a CBI process on certain left non-Perron eigenvectors of the branching mean matrix in order to have almost sure and L1 limit.Moreover,under a second order moment condition on the branching and immigration mechanisms,we prove L2 convergence of an appropriately scaled process and the above-mentioned projections as well.A representation of the limits is also provided under the same moment conditions.

Mixed convection stagnation-point flow on vertical stretching sheet with external magnetic field

The problem of steady laminar magnetohydrodynamic （MHD） mixed con- vection stagnation-point flow of an incompressible viscous fluid over a vertical stretch- ing sheet is studied. The effect of an externally magnetic field is taken into account. The transformed boundary layer equations are solved numerically by using an implicit finite-difference scheme. Numerical results are obtained for various values of the mixed convection parameter, Hartmann number, and Prandtl number. The effects of an exter- nally magnetic field on the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, velocity, and temperature profiles for both A 〉 1 and A ~ 1, where A is the velocity ratio parameter, are presented graphically and discussed in detail. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered, and it is found that dual solutions exist for the opposing flow.
