Comparison of lipid extraction methods for the microalgae Acutodesmus obliquus

Microalgae are widely used in the pharmaceutical and energy industries,therefore the conditions for their cultivation and extraction methods play an important role in the profiling and acquisition of *** efficiency of lipid extraction from microalgae has attracted great interest from industry because of the wide variety of lipids and amounts that can be *** obliquus(Scenedesmus obliquus UTEX 393)was used in this *** was cultivated in Bold 3N medium modified with 75%nitrogen at 25℃,pH 6.8,125 r/min and a photoperiod of 18/6 h and illuminated with white light provided by a Light-Emitting Diode Surface Mount Device extensions(LED SMD)with an intensity of 1200μE/(m^(2)·s).The cells were stained with the Red Nile(RN)technique to indicate lipid *** extraction methods were compared,classical,microwave(MW),Soxhlet,and ultrasound(US),using the same solvent proportions(hexane:chloroform:methanol=1:2:3).All samples were analyzed with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)and Gas Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry(GC-MS).The results showed:1)lipid production detected by RN was consistent with microalgal growth;2)the MW technique was the best extraction method,according to the statistical analysis through Randomized Complete Block(RCB)design and performance of 4.6%;and 3)the presence of saturated and unsaturated acids was indicated by FTIR ***-MS was able to identify palmitic and linoleic acids as the likely major constituents of the sample.

In vitro antioxidant,antimicrobial and anti-diabetic properties of polyphenols of Passiflora ligularis *** pulp

In the present study,anti-radical,anti-diabetic and antimicrobial activities of different solvent extracts of Passiflora ligularis fruits were *** the various solvents,acetone extract displayed maximum total phenolic(640.70 mg GAE/g extract),tannin(214.30 mg GAE/g extract)and flavonoid contents(387.33 mg RE/g extract).Results of antioxidant studies revealed that the acetone extract of fruits possessed an efficient 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl(DPPH•)(IC5019.13g/mL),2,2-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiozoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS•+)(9800.94mol/L trolox equi/g extract),superoxide(78.27%)and nitric oxide(79.95%)radical scavenging activities,ferric reducing antioxidant power(43.06 mmol Fe(II)/mg extract),metal chelating(134.53 mg EDTA/g extract)*** acetone extract of *** fruits also exhibited significant(P<0.005)inhibition activities onα-amylase(82.56%)andα-glucosidase(75.36%)***,the fruits of *** also demonstrated antibacterial activities against Gram(+)and Gram(−)bacteria and inhibited the fungal strains Candida albicans(14.85 mm)and Aspergillus niger(13.91 mm)in the disc diffusion *** of polyphenolics by HPLC showed the presence of ellagic acid,gallic acid,and ***,the results indicate that the fruit pulp of *** can serve as a potential antioxidative and antimicrobial agent in food and pharmaceutical industries.

Free radical scavenging property and antiproliferative activity of Rhodiola imbricata Edgew extracts in HT-29 human colon cancer cells

Objective:To investigate the in vitro antioxidant and antiproliferative activity of rhizome extracts of Rhodiola imbricata(***) in HT-29 human colon cancer cell ***:The successively extracted rhizome of *** using various solvents was analyzed for their total phenolics,tannins and flavonoid *** vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by employing different assays,including DPPH,ABTS radical scavenging assays,FRAP, phosphomolybdenum reduction assay,superoxide anion,hydroxyl radical scavenging activities and metal chelating ***:Acetone and methanol extracts recorded higher phenolic content and showed comparable antioxidant activity with standard ***,they also inhibited the proliferation of HT-29 cells upon treatment at higher concentration(200μg/mL) (acetone and methanol,84%and 84%.respectively).On examination acetone extract exhibited antiproliferative activity in a concentration dependent manner whereas,methanol extract showed both dose dependent and lime dependent inhibitory ***:The results obtained justify the traditional usage of *** from their promising antioxidant activity.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive brain disorder and complex mechanisms are involved in the physiopathology of Alzheimer’s ***,there is data suggesting that inflammation plays a role in its development and ***,some non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs,such as meloxicam,which act by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 have been used as neuroprotective agents in different neurodegenerative disease *** purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of co-nanoencapsulated curcumin and meloxicam in lipid core nanocapsules(LCN)on cognitive impairment induced by amyloid-beta peptide injection in *** were prepared by the nanoprecipitation *** Swiss mice received a single intracerebroventricular injection of amyloid-beta peptide aggregates(fragment 25–35,3 nmol/3μL)or vehicle and were subsequently treated with curcumin-loaded LCN(10 mg/kg)or meloxicam-loaded LCN(5 mg/kg)or meloxicam+curcumin-co-loaded LCN(5 and 10 mg/kg,respectively).Treatments were given on alternate days for 12 days(i.e.,six doses,once every 48 hours,by intragastric gavage).Our data showed that amyloid-beta peptide infusion caused long-term memory deficits in the inhibitory avoidance and object recognition tests in *** the inhibitory avoidance test,both meloxicam and curcumin formulations(oil or co-loaded LCN)improved amyloid-beta-induced memory impairment in ***,only meloxicam and curcumin-co-loaded LCN attenuated non-aversive memory impairment in the object recognition ***,the beneficial effects of meloxicam and curcuminco-loaded LCN could be explained by the anti-inflammatory properties of these drugs through cortical cyclooxygenase-2 *** study suggests that the neuroprotective potential of meloxicam and curcumin co-nanoencapsulation is associated with cortical cyclooxygenase-2 *** study was approved by the Committee on Care and Use of Experimental Animal Resources,the Federal University of Pampa,Brazil(app

Edible mushrooms are ubiquitous around the world due to their enormous health benefits. Mushrooms have been used as folk medicine and healthy food from ancient times but their health-promoting effects have not been explored. As a superfood, mushroom powder is an essential component of the human diet for improving health and immunity. Bioactive components present in them such as proteins, polysaccharides, terpenes, and lipids have recently sparked much attention to exhibit therapeutic properties such as anti-cancer, immunomodulatory, antihypercholesterolemia, antiviral, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Moreover, these isolated compounds have the potentiality to be used in dietary supplements and medicines. In addition, numerous bioactive compounds such as ergosterol, gallic acid, and cordycepin proved to be essential in preventing or reducing the severity of COVID-19. This review unveils a comprehensive understanding of the nutraceutical as well as the medicinal potential of mushrooms and their applications in food products for human wellness.

Chemical Composition,Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activity of the Oil and Plant Extract Myrocarpus frondosus Allemao

The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical profile of extracts (aqueous and ethanol) and the essential oil of Myrocarpus frondosus Allem?o, the sensitivity of strains of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium and Listéria monocytogenes, front the extracts and essential oil, by means of the microdilution method in broth, the antioxidant activity by the ABTS method, and the content of phenolic compounds present in the extracts and oil. For the preparation of extracts from plant leaves used with ethanol and water, then separated, the chemical identification of compounds was performed by high-performance liquid chromatography (CLAE-DAD) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrum (CG/MS). With the chemical analysis of the extracts obtained the presence of the major compound rutin, and oil major compound was found germacrene B. In the microdilution method in broth, oil and extracts showed inhibition against all the bacteria tested in the concentrations 1 mg/ml to 0.25 mg/ml, except for Staphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 0.25 mg/ml of the essential oil and trans-caryophyllene. The results of Minimum Bactericidal Concentration showed that the essential oil had bactericidal activity at a concentration of 1mg/ml for all bacteria tested and trans-caryophyllene at the same concentration only for Listeria monocytogenes. In relation to the essential oil, antioxidant activity showed higher radical reduction capacity of 40.92% and the content of phenolic compounds ethanol extract showed more 12.72%. The in vitro results support the conclusion that the essential oil is very promising both in antimicrobial action as antioxidant activity and the leaf extracts on antioxidant activity.

Carum carvi or caraway is traditionally used for treatment of indigestion,pneumonia,and as appetizer,galactagogue,and *** oil,fixed oil and many other valuable extractive compounds with industrial applications are prepared from *** review article has new deep research on caraway as medicinal *** preparing the manuscript,the information was extracted from accessible international databases(Google scholar,PubMed,Science direct,Springer,and Wiley),electronic resources and traditional books by key word of caraway or Carum *** results of traditional studies exhibited that the galactagogue and carminative effects of caraway fruits are superior to other ***,the traditional scholars used it as appetizer,while caraway was the main ingredient of anti-obesity drugs in traditional medicine,which has been confirmed in two modern clinical trials of human *** oil in combination with peppermint oil or menthol is used for treatment of functional dyspepsia in clinical *** oil topically on abdomen relieves the IBS symptoms in ***,the use of caraway oil is not recommended in adults under 18 years due to insufficient data,but it can topically use as anti-colic and carminative agent in children or *** antiaflatoxigenic,antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of caraway oil along with its reputation as spice help the industries to use it as natural preservatives and antioxidant agents.
