Cranial variation in allactagine jerboas(Allactaginae,Dipodidae, Rodentia): a geometric morphometric study

Allactaginae is a subfamily of dipodids consisting of four-and five-toed jerboas(Allactaga, Allactodipus,Orientallactaga, Pygeretmus, Scarturus) found in open habitats of Asia and North Africa. Recent molecular phylogenies have upended our understanding of this group's systematics across taxonomic scales. Here, I used cranial geometric morphometrics to examine variation across 219 specimens of 14 allactagine species(Allactaga major, A. severtzovi, Orientallactaga balikunica, ***, O. sibirica, Pygeretmus platyurus, P. pumilio,P. shitkovi, Scarturus aralychensis, S. euphraticus,S. hotsoni, S. indicus, S. tetradactylus, S. williamsi)in light of their revised taxonomy. Results showed no significant sexual size or shape dimorphism. Species significantly differed in cranial size and shape both overall and as species pairs. Species identity had a strong effect on both cranial size and shape. Only a small part of cranial shape variation was allometric,with no evidence of unique species allometries, and most specimens fit closely to the common allometric regression vector. Allactaga was the largest,followed by Orientallactaga, Scarturus, and finally Pygeretmus. Principal component 1(PC1) separated O. bullata+O. balikunica+S. hotsoni(with inflated bullae along with reduced zygomatic arches and rostra) from A. major+A. severtzovi+O. sibirica(with converse patterns), while PC2 differentiated Orientallactaga(with enlarged cranial bases and rostra along with reduced zygomatic arches and foramina magna) from Scarturus+Pygeretmus(with the opposite patterns). Clustering based on the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean(UPGMA) contained the four genera, but S. hotsoni clustered with O. bullata+O. balikunica and *** clustered with A. major+A. severtzovi, likely due to convergence and allometry, respectively.

Biosorption characteristics of unicellular green alga Chlorella sorokiniana immobilized in loofa sponge for removal of Cr(Ⅲ)

Loofa sponge （LS） immobilized biomass of Chlorella sorokiniana （LSIBCS）, isolated from industrial wastewater, was investigated as a new biosorbent for the removal of Cr（Ⅲ） from aqueous solution. A comparison of the biosorption of Cr（Ⅲ） by LSIBCS and free biomass of C. sorokiniana （FBCS） from 10-300 mg Cr（Ⅲ）/L aqueous solutions showed an increase in uptake of 17.79% when the microalgal biomass was immobilized onto loofa sponge. Maximum biosorption capacity for LSIBCS and FBCS was found to be 69.26 and 58.80 mg Cr（Ⅲ）/g biosorbent, respectively, whereas the amount of Cr（Ⅲ） ions adsorbed onto naked LS was 4.97 mg/g. The kinetics of Cr（Ⅲ） biosorption was extremely rapid and equilibrium was established in about 15 and 20 min by LSIBCS and FBCS, respectively. The biosorption equilibrium was well defined by Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The biosorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second order kinetic model. The biosorption was found to be pH dependent and the maximum sorption occurred at the solution pH 4.0. Desorption studies showed that 98% of the adsorbed Cr（Ⅲ） could be desorbed with 0.1 mol/L HNO3, while other desorbing agents were less effective in the order： EDTA 〉 H2SO4 〉 CH3COOH 〉 HCl. The regenerated LSIBCS retained 92.68% of the initial Cr（Ⅲ） binding capacity up to five cycles of reuse in continuous flow-fixed bed columns. The study revealed that LSIBCS could be used as an effective biosorbent for the removal of Cr（Ⅲ） from wastewater.

With the development of concentrated animal feeding operations in China,the air pollution problem has drawn widespread public *** living near farms are suffering from the emissions of particulate matter(PM)and ***,scientific data on the characteristics of these emissions are limited to the establishment and evaluation of mitigation strategies in *** study was conducted to provide fundamental information on the concentrations of PM inside and outside a typical ventilated laying hen house in northeastern *** results showed that outdoor PM concentrations of this laying hen house did not meet the requirements of the environmental quality standard of China’s livestock and poultry farms in the two days out of six sampling days in summer,while indoor PM concentrations met the environmental requirements during this *** indoor and outdoor PM concentrations were highly correlated in summer,and over 60%of particles indoor were emitted outside via mechanical *** were more fine particles dominated both inside and outside of the laying hen ***,twelve and nine elements were measured from the PM sources inside and outside laying hen house,*** control strategies may be adjusted based on the status of exhaust fans,the ages of laying hens,atmospheric conditions,and routine house management to well reduce PM emissions and improve control efficiency.

Fungal deterioration is a barrier to the wide acceptance of fermented cereal foods from *** use of protective cultures is a natural approach to controlling fungi in foods that also complies with a clean label *** study aims to select antifungal lactic acid bacteria(LAB)previously isolated from kunu-zaki to bio-control deterioration in this cereal-based Nigerian fermented *** of Leuconostoc citreum(1),Limosilactobacillus fermentum(6),and Weissella confusa(3)were the most active against seven test mold species,with average inhibition score of 2.25-2.88,after screening 220 LAB strains using agar overlay on millet-sorghum flour hydrolysate(MSFH)*** MSFH agar diffusion method revealed that antifungal activity against the seven target molds was retained in cell-free supernatants(CFSs)of selected LABs,with the strongest inhibition against *** F008BA and *** 3AS1 demonstrated by *** 5KJEU5(9.06%)and *** YKDIA1(24.55%),*** antifungal activity of CFSs was mainly due to the occurrence of acidic compounds,with the most abundant compounds being acetic(0.30-1.96 mg/mL)and lactic(1.80-3.23 mg/mL)*** compounds such as hydroxycaffeic(0.16-6.72μg/mL),3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propionic(1.40-6.36μg/mL),3-phenyllactic(1.28-24.48μg/mL),and hydroxyferulic acids(12.25μg/mL)occurred at lower *** challenged kunu-zaki,*** 5KJEU5 prevented the growth of *** F008BA and *** 3AS1 beyond 8 day at ambient temperature(25◦C).In this study,LAB from kunu-zaki displayed strong antifungal activity,showing great potential as a protective culture to prevent fungal growth and mycotoxin accumulation in cereal foods.

Using atomic force microscopy (AFM), the dynamic process of the in vitro nucleosome reconstitution followed by slow dilution from high salt to low salt was visualized. Data showed that the histone octamers were dissociated from DNA at 1M NaCl. When the salt concentration was slowly reduced to 650 mM and 300 mM, the core histones bound to the naked DNA gradually. Once the salt concentration was reduced to 50 mM the classic 'beads-on-astring' structure was clearly visualized. Furthermore, using the technique of the in vitro reconstitution of nucleosome, the mono- and di- nucleosomes were assembled in vitro with both HS2core (-10681 to -10970 bp) and NCR2 (-372 to -194 bp) DNA sequences in the 5’flanking sequence of human b-globin gene. Data revealed that HMG 1/2 and HMG 14/17 proteins binding to both DNA sequences are changeable following the assembly and disassembly of nucleosomes. The title compound （7R,8S,9S,12S）-13,14-dehydro-1-（4-fluorobenzyloxy）-N-methyl- 2,13-dimethoxy-12-hydroxymorphinane was synthesized by the reaction of O-4-bromobenzyl- sinomenine with lithium aluminum hydride. Its chemical structure was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The crystal belongs to triclinic, space group P1 with Mr = 439.51, a = 7.7236（1）, b = 8.7282（1）, c = 9.9342（2） A, a = 81.176（1）, β = 67.43, γ= 64.577（1）°,μ = 0.76 mm^-1, V= 558.45（2） A3, Z = 1, Dc = 1.307 mg/m3, F（000） = 234 and T= 133 K.

Although the use of distinct colors to indicate unprofitability to predators(***)is commonly thought of as an adaptation,our knowledge of its macroevolutionary effects is *** aposematism is expected to decrease attacks by predators,we hypothesized that aposematic lineages should be larger on average than their non-aposematic sister groups because of the decreased probability of extinction and/or increased probability of speciation(*** diversification).The results of our sister-group analysis are consistent with the hypothesis that the evolution of aposematism is accompanied by increased diversification of lineages,with the aposematic focal group having more species in 11 of 14 pairs of sister *** the apparent advantages of reduced predation risk on diversification rates,the evolution of aposematism is relatively rare and reversions to a cryptic state are not *** addition to the difficulties in evolving a trait that initially decreases the survivorship of prey among naïve predators,we discuss other factors that may limit the apparent prevalence and success of *** is hoped that the results of our analysis will encourage further analyses of the phylogenetic relationships among aposematic groups and their relatives,and of the evolutionary time scales over which the benefits of aposematism are the greatest to lineages with this condition.
