Scattering phenomena affect light propagation through any kind of medium from free space to biological *** appropriate strategies to increase the robustness to scattering is the common requirement in developing both communication protocols and imaging ***,structured light has attracted attention due to its seeming scattering resistance in terms of transmissivity and spatial ***,correlation between optical polarization and orbital angular momentum(OAM),which characterizes the so-called vector vortex beams(VVBs)states,seems to allow for the preservation of the polarization *** extend the analysis by investigating both the spatial features and the polarization structure of vectorial optical vortexes propagating in scattering media with different *** the observed features,we find a sudden swift decrease in contrast ratio for Gaussian,OAM,and VVB modes for concentrations of the adopted scattering media exceeding 0.09%.Our analysis provides a more general and complete study on the propagation of structured light in dispersive and scattering media.

Herein we study the different microscopic interactions occurring in water/methanol solutions at dif- ferent methanol molar fractions, using NMR spctroscopy. Temperature was found to determine which interaction dominates. It was found that the mixing between water and methanol is non-ideal because of the presence of interactions like hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity. These results indicate that the competition between hydrophilic and hydrophobic interactions is different in different thermal regions, and that the physical properties of the solution are determined by the character of the solution itself, which in turn depends on the mole fraction of methanol and on the temperature.

Dear Editor,Beige adipocytes,which increase energy expenditure by dissipating energy as heat,have gained attention as a therapeutic target for combating obesity.1 Adipocytes express many types of G-protein-coupled receptors(GPCRs),each of which has a unique preference for the Gs,Gi,Gq,and G12 *** the function of Gs-coupledβ-adrenergic receptors in beige adipocyte induction is well established,2 little is known about the function of G12-coupled GPCRs beyond its suppressive roles in white adipocyte maturation.3 In this study,we generated transgenic mice conditionally expressing a G12-coupled designer GPCR using a Cre-loxP system and investigated the potential effects of G12 signaling on adipocyte biology.

The dynamics and stability of thin liquid films have fascinated scientists over many *** film flows are central to numerous areas of engineering,geophysics,and biophysics and occur over a wide range of lengths,velocities,and liquid property *** spite of many significant developments in this area,we still lack appropriate quantitative experimental tools with the spatial and temporal resolution necessary for a comprehensive study of film *** propose tackling this problem with a holographic technique that combines quantitative phase imaging with a custom setup designed to form and manipulate *** results,gathered on a model aqueous polymeric solution,provide unparalleled insight into bubble dynamics through the combination of a full-field thickness estimation,threedimensional imaging,and a fast acquisition *** unprecedented level of detail offered by the proposed methodology will promote a deeper understanding of the underlying physics of thin film dynamics.

Biosystems Engineering Curricula in Europe

This paper describes the history of the harmonisation of agricultural/biosystems engineering degree study programs in Europe from 1989, when the need for this process was widely felt, until now, when this need was partly satisfied through the implementation of the projects of two EU funded thematic networks, i. e., USAEE-TN and ERABEE-TN. The objective of this paper is to contribute to promote, in each EU country and elsewhere, the process of harmonisation of agricultural/biosystems engineering degree study programs, and student and graduate mobility within the EU, as well as between the EU and the USA. At present, in Europe, this harmonisation process is aided by the key results of the projects of USAEE-TN, ERABEE-TN and POMSEBES. USAEE developed some core curricula, to be used as benchmarks for European agricultural/biosystems engineering degree study programs, and a web-based database of these study programs. ERABEE promoted the transition from agricultural engineering to biosystems engineering and established the recognition procedures of new European study programs in biosystems engineering. The EU-US POMSEBES consortium built up a platform for exchange of experiences and ideas between the USA and the EU, aimed at: enhancing the quality and linkage of research and education; establishing appropriate policy oriented measures; promoting compatible degree study programs in biosystems engineering, within the EU as well as between the EU and the USA.

A new classification of several clitocyboid taxa is here proposed to accommodate results from multigenic phylogenetic *** analysis of ITS rDNA as well as a combined dataset including 18S and 28S rDNA,tef1 and rpb2 data,support significantly a shared monophyletic origin of the genera Pseudoclitocybe,Musumecia and Pogonoloma,and the species Clitocybe alexandri and *** new family Pseudoclitocybaceae is here proposed to name this clade,characterized by the presence of loop-like clamp connections in most species,absence of cystidia,and parallel hymenophoral trama with broad,cylindrical hyphae with intracellular *** new genera Clitopaxillus and Harmajaea are proposed to accommodate the type species *** and ***,as well as the combination *** addition,two new species are described:*** has a differential distribution of clamp connections in the basidiome,while *** is,by now,an exclusively European taxon with brownish pileus,somewhat decurrent gills,ovoid spores and basidia longer than those of ***,the species concept within Pseudoclitocybe and Pogonoloma is discussed and descriptions of the most representative species are provided.

The Boson peak interpretation and evolution in confined amorphous water

We study the evolution of the Boson peak for water confined in cement paste obtained by means of Inelastic Neutron Scattering from room temperature to the deep supercooled *** analyze the data in terms of a universal-like model,developed for glass forming liquids in the frame of the energy *** such a way it is possible to discriminate between the fragile and strong glass forming character of supercooled liquids and the dynamical crossover,fragile to strong,between ***,we confirm the link between the Boson peak and the water *** particular,the main result is represented by a crossover from a local energetic minima configuration to that characteristic of saddle points on going towards the deep supercooled regime up to the dynamical arrest.

Fungi are eukaryotes that play essential roles in *** fungi,Basidiomycota is one of the major phyla with more than 40,000 described *** review species diversity of Basidiomycota from five groups with different lifestyles or habitats:saprobic in grass/forest litter,wood-decaying,yeast-like,ectomycorrhizal,and plant *** studies of Agaricus,Cantharellus,Ganoderma,Gyroporus,Russula,Tricholoma,and groups of lichenicolous yeast-like fungi,rust fungi,and smut fungi are used to determine trends in discovery of *** each case study,the number of new species published during 2009–2020 is analysed to determine the rate of *** rates differ between taxa and reflect different states of progress for species discovery in different *** results showed that lichenicolous yeast-like taxa had the highest publication rate for new species in the past two decades,and it is likely this trend will continue in the next *** species discovery rate of plant parasitic basidiomycetes was low in the past ten years,and remained constant in the past 50 *** also found that the establishment of comprehensive and robust taxonomic systems based on a joint global initiative by mycologists could promote and standardize the recognition of *** estimated that more than 54,000 species of Basidiomycota will be discovered by 2030,and estimate a total of 1.4–4.2 million species of Basidiomycota *** numbers illustrate a huge gap between the described and yet unknown diversity in Basidiomycota.

The onset of the tetrabonded structure in liquid water

Water properties are dominated by the hydrogen bond interaction that gives rise in the stable liquid phase to the formation of a dynamical *** latter drives the water thermodynamics and is at the origin of its well known *** HB structural geometry and its changes remain uncertain and still are challenging research subjects.A key question is the role and effects of the HB tetrahedral structure on the local arrangement of neighboring molecules in *** the hydrogen dynamics in bulk water is studied through the combined use of Neutron Compton Scattering and NMR *** are discussed in the framework of previous studies performed in a wide temperature range,in the liquid,solid,and amorphous *** the first time this combined studies provide an experimental evidence of the onset of the water tetrahedral network at T^315 K,originally proposed in previous studies of transport coefficients and thermodynamical data;below this temperature the local order in water changes and the lifetime of local hydrogen bond network becomes long enough to gradually develop the characteristic tetrahedral network of water.
