Two compounds 3,3'-(9,10-anthrylene)bis-pentane-2,4-dione 1 and 3-(2-methoxy-1-naphthalenyl)-pentane-2,4-dione 2 were synthesized by the direct arylation of pentane-2,4-diones in the presence of Mn(OAc)3 and H3PO4. Their crystal structures were determined by X-ray diffraction method. Compound 1, C24H22O4, Mr = 374.4, crystallized in the monoclinic system, space group P21/a with a = 7.393(4), b = 14.308(5), c = 10.099(5) ? = 110.8(4)? V = 999.0 (9) 3, Z = 2, Dc = 2.49g/cm3, F(000) = 392, ?= 0.78cm-1, final R = 0.050 and Rw = 0.057 for 1144 observed reflections with I≥3.00 ?(I). The molecular backbone is the anthracene ring, and two acetoacetone groups are perpendicular to the anthracene ring at 9,10 positions. Compound 2, C16H16O3, Mr = 256.3, crystallized in monoclinic system, space group C2 with a = 14.369(3), b = 7.480 (1), c = 15.878 (2) ? = 128.46(1)? V = 1336.3(4) ?, Z = 4, Dc = 1.27g/cm3, F(000) = 544, ?= 0.81cm-1. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares method, final R = 0.044 and Rw = 0.040 for 764 observed reflections with I ≥3.00(I). The acetoacetone group in compound 2 is also vertical to the naphthalene ring.

The title compound (C31H29NO, Mr = 431.6) was synthesized and its crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction method. It crystallized in orthorhombic space group Pcab, with cell parameters: a = 10.579 (3), b = 18.514(7) , c = 23.93(1) ?, V = 4686.22(3) ?3, Z = 8, Dc = 1.223g/cm3, F(000) = 1840, μ = 0.68mm-1. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares method, and final R = 0.057, Rw = 0.060 for 2282 observed reflections with I ≥3.00σ(I). The molecular backbone is aza-bicycle [3,2,1]octane containing a chair-like six-membered aza-cycle conformation.

The standard detection hallmarks of apoptosis of Taxus cuspidata cells in suspension culture with Ce 4+ were studied. The condensation and margination of chromatin were observed under the electron microscopy. DNA fragmentation ranged 'DNA ladder' on agarose gel electrophoresis. TdT mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) analysis of the cells reveals that the nuclear DNA strand breaks can be identified by labeling free 3′ OH termini. These results suggest that Ce 4+ can induce apoptosis of Taxus cuspidata cells and also indicate that there is a certain relationship between apoptosis and secondary metabolite product Taxol.

A polymer with suitable physical characters and matched functional groups was synthesized,and used as a supporter to immobilize aminoacylase. The results showed that this supporterhad high immobilizing capacity and high selectivity for aminoacylase. Immobilized amino-acylase had high specific activity. In this paper, we determine the physical and chemicalcharacters of aminoacylase for resolution of D,L--phenylalanine, including its optimum tem-perature, pH, ion concentration, activated ion, substrate concentration, thermal stability anddenaturation. The immobilized aminoacylase was used to resolve the D,L-phenylalaninecontinuously. Thc resolved products was separated and purified with ion-exchange resins. L-phenylalanine solution was concentrated by vacuum evaporation and its hydrochloride wasformed. Checking of final product with polarimeter showed high yield and purity.

Synthesis of gold nanoparticles(AuNPs) and Pluronic triblock copolymer composite in aqueous medium was ***-polymer nanocomposite with different structures was fabricated by tailoring the molar ratio of gold precursors to Pluronic P123 molecules or pH value of the P123 *** a lower volume ratio of [AuCl4-]/[P123](0.05) was employed at pH 11.1,a nanostructure similar to plum pudding was *** with an average diameter of 13.1 nm were embedded in Pluronic assemblies,and each one held about 21 single gold *** [AuCl4-]/[P123] was increased to 0.1,core-shell structure was obtained if the pH value was in the range of 10.6～11.6,while gold polyhedra were fabricated when pH value was *** core-shell AuNPs had an average diameter of 9.6 nm with a narrow size distribution,while gold polyhedras with a mean diameter of 12.8 nm was *** specific morphologies of the resultant nanocomposite were presumably obtained due to the synergistic interaction among the reactants.

Partition Behavior of Penicillin in Three-liquid-phase Extraction System

Partition behavior of penicillins G and V was studied in a novel three-liquid-phase extraction system,which is composed of butyl acetate (BA),polyethylene glycol (PEG),ammonia sulfate (NH4)2SO4 and water (H2O). The main components in the top,middle and bottom phases are butyl acetate,polyethylene glycol aqueous solution and ammonia sulfate aqueous solution,respectively. Some parameters such as partition coefficients Di/j and mass fractions Ei of penicillins G and V were determined at the room temperature,respectively. Experimental efforts have been made to investigate the partition behavior of penicillin in the three-liquid-phase extraction system,including initial concentrations of phase-forming components PEG and (NH4)2SO4,PEG molecular weight,pH,initial concentration of penicillin. The results indicated that penicillins G and V have the similar partition behavior. They preferentially distribute into the middle phase with the increase of initial concentration of phase-forming components and into the top phase with the decrease of pH,while partition coefficient Dm/b is hardly affected by pH value. The variation of PEG molecular weight has little effect on mass fractions of penicillin. The increase of initial concentration of penicillins G and V could lead to the increase of Dt/b,Dm/b and the decrease of Dt/m,while their mass fractions in all phases were almost independent on their initial concentrations.

The influences of medicinal plants Juniperus Phoenicea (Araar), Hyphaene thebaica (Doum), An-astatica hierochuntica (Kafta) and Cleome droserifolia (Sammo) as antidiabetic agents were investigated using female pregnant albino rats. Female rats were injected with 60 mg/kg b.w. alloxan to induce diabe-tes. Diabetic rats treated orally with the methanol extracts of tested plants till the 19 day of gestation. The present studies include the frequencies of chro-mosomal aberrations and nucleic acid system of liver in the female pregnant rats and their embryos. The results showed that injection of alloxan caused highly significant increase in chromosomal aberrations as well as in blood glucose levels as a result of diabetes in pregnant females. It also caused a high incidence of chromosomal deviation in embryos and decreased the liver soluble protein contents of female rats and their embryos. These effects in alloxanized animals were treated and improved by ingestion of the methanol extracts of the tested plants (Araar, Doum, Kafta and Somma) in which under their treatments, the inceased level of blood glu-cose of diabetic rats was deceased. Ingestion with the plants methanolic extracts improved and normalized the effects of diabetes in nucleic acids values of liver tissues. These were accompanied with nucleases (RNAase and DNAase) activities. The inhibited ac-tivities of both DNA ase and RNA ase of pregnant rats and their embryos were stimulated and read-justed around the normal values. Also administration of the plants methanol extracts decreased the per-centage of chromosomal aberrations in the female rats and embryos. It is concluded that there are some biochem.cal dynamics which might occur in the metabo-lism of glucose, nucleic acids and proteins in order to prevent or to reduce the oxidative stress of diabetes by flavonoides treatment.
