Evolution of deformation twins with strain rate in a mediummanganese wear-resistant steel Fe-8Mn-1C-1.2Cr-0.2V

Microstructure evolutions of the medium-manganese wear-resistant steel Fe-8Mn-1C-1.2Cr-0.2V (in wt.%) with stacking-fault energy of 22 mJ m-2 during deformation at strain rate ranging of 10^-2-1 s^-1 were analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microsco.y and high-resolution transmission electron microsco.y. The results indicate that the twinning-induced plasticity effect is the main strengthening mechanism of the studied steel, whilst the transformation-induced plasticity effect only occurs at high strain rate. With an increase in strain rate, volume fraction of the deformation twins, in particular that of the seco.dary twins, increases significantly along with decreasing average size. When applied strain rate is higher than 10^-1 s^-1, the parallel deformation twins are turned into a crossing morphology, and the original straight twin boundaries exhibit a ladder feature, which is attributed to the interactions between regular dislocations and twin dislocations at the twin boundary. The critical strain, a key indicator of the initiation of deformation twin, decreases with increasing strain rate. In addition, the ductility and strength of medium-manganese wear-resistant steel Fe-8Mn-1C-1.2Cr-0.2V are mainly determined by the shape and volume fraction of deformation twins.

The dynamic recrystallization(DRX)mechanism of as-cast nickel base superalloy N10276 during primary hot working was investigated by co.pression tests at temperatures of 1000–1200℃ and strain rates between 0.01 and 10 s^(-1).Optical microsco.y,scanning electron microsco.y,electron backscattered diffraction technique and transmission electron microsco.y were used to characterize the evolution of *** higher deformation temperature or lower strain rate,the true stress–true strain curves exhibit the characteristic of a peak stress followed by a steady state flow stress under large strains,co.firming the occurrence of *** degree of DRX increases with elevating deformation *** the progress of DRX,low angle grain boundaries gradually decrease,while high angle grain boundaries increase *** studies have shown that disco.tinuous dynamic recrystallization is the main recrystallization *** there are few original grain boundaries and twin boundaries,and lack of seco.d phase particles for particle stimulated nucleation,geometrically necessary boundaries are formed as supplementary nucleation sites through sub-grain boundary rotation and deformation twin *** annealing twins dominated by Σ3 grain boundaries are generated in large quantities during the growth of recrystallized grains.

In this study, metallographic analysis and nanoindentation characterization were used to analyze the properties and microstructures of as-cast nitrogen alloyed 27Cr-7Ni-4Mo super duplex stainless steel （super-DSS）. The as-cast microstructure of the super-DSS was characterized by its ferrite and island-like austenite phases. During the solution annealing process, the austenite volume percentage of the steel decreased gradually with increased annealing temperature. As a main element, the chromium co.tent in the ferritic and austenitic phases elevated slightly at first then decreased with increased annealing temperature. The chromium partition co.fficient in the steel varied by around 1.0. The co.tents of nickel, another main alloy element, also increased in the ferritic and austenitic phases with increased annealing temperature, as did the nickel partition co.fficient in the steel, which tended to be close to 1.0. The nanoindentation characterization results indicate that the hardness of the austenite phase is slightly greater than that of the ferrite phase. They were similar to each other within a certain temperature range from 1 050 ℃ to 1 100℃. This temperature range was co.sistent with the temperature range in which the co.tent ratio of the two phases was close to 1： 1. We found the Young＇ s modulus of the ferrite phase to be greater than that of the austenite phase. With increased annealing temperature, the Young＇ s modulus of the ferrite phase decreased while that of the austenite phase remained almost unchanged.

The stray crystal in the platform region is one of the co.mon main defects in single-crystal superalloy blades. The simple and effective method to eliminate this defect is urgent to be explored. This work found that the Cusp magnetic field can effectively inhibit the stray-crystal formation in the platform. The tendency of stray-crystal formation decreases as the magnetic-field strength increases at a certain withdrawal rate and temperature-gradient. The suppressing effect decreases as the withdrawal rate or the temperature-gradient increases. Finally, the inhibiting mechanism on the stray-crystal formation from the Cusp magnetic field is proposed based on the experiments and the numerical simulation. The magneticfield application strengthens the flow velocity and changes the flow structure near the liquid-solid interface, and further reduces the radial temperature difference. Acco.dingly, the seco.dary dendrites in the heat-co.duction underco.led zone expands towards the co.ner in a faster speed, which reduces the stray-crystal formation in the platform co.ner. This study provides an effective and simple method for decreasing the stray-crystal formation during the preparation of single-crystal with platform region.

A new family of resource saving, high chromium and manganese super duplex stainless steels （DSSs）, with a co.position in mass percent, % of Cr 0.29, Mn 0.12, Ni 2.0, Mo i. 0, and N 0. 51-0. 68, has been developed by examining the effect of N on the microstructure, mechanical properties and co.rosion properties. The results show that these alloys have a balanced ferrite-austenite relation. The austenite volume fraction decreases with the solution treatment temperature, but it increases with an increase in N co.tent. The increases in nitrogen enhance the ultimate tensile strength （UTS） and reduce the ductility of the material slightly. The pitting co.rosion potential increases first and then decreases with an increase in nitrogen co.tent when the amount of N arrives to 0.68%. The yield stress and ultimate tensile strength of solution treated samples were more than 680 and 900 MPa, the elongation of experimental alloys are higher than 30%, respectively, what is more, the pitting potentials were beyond 1 100 mV.

A numerical model was developed to simulate the jet-flow solid fraction of W18Cr4 V high-speed steel during spray forming. The whole model co.prises two submodels: one is an individual droplet model, which describes the motion and thermal behaviors of individual droplets on the basis of Newton's laws of motion and the co.vection heat transfer mechanism; the other is a droplet distribution model, which is used to calculate the droplet size distribution. After being verified, the model was used to analyze the effects of parameters, including the initial gas velocity, deposition distance, superheat degree, and the ratio of gas-to-metal mass flow rates, on the jet-flow solid fraction. Finally, an equation to predict the jet-flow solid fraction directly and co.veniently acco.ding to the parameters was presented. The values predicted by the equation show good agreement with those calculated by the numerical model.

Titanium is the impurity in some special steel *** existence of titanium decreases the grain size,depresses the yield strength,and results in the low quality of these steels in various ***,titanium should be removed to the *** on the industrial production of ultra low carbon Al-Si killed steel,the physical-chemical behavior of titanium was investigated in vacuum degassing refining（RH）process with and without *** influences of titanium co.tent in hot metal,ladle slag co.position,and ladle slag quantity,etc,on titanium co.tent of refined liquid steel were *** results showed that the partition ratio of titanium between ladle slag and liquid steel is in inverse proportion to the 4/3square of aluminum *** maximum partition ratio of titanium between top slag and liquid steel can be obtained by adjusting an optimum slag co.position including co.tents of FeOxand Al2O3and the slag basicity,and the suitable range of them should be co.trolled higher than 6%,less than 20%,and within 1.5to 3.0,***,desulfurization refining by RH decreases the partition ratio of titanium between ladle slag and liquid steel *** ensure the titanium co.tent stably less than 15×10-6 in a 300tladle,the titanium co.tent in hot metal must be less than 500×10-6 and the thickness of basic oxygen furnace（BOF）slag carrying over must be less than 50mm.
