Aims Variations in vegetation spring phenology are widely attributed to temperature in temperate and co.d ***,temperature effect on phenology remains elusive in co.d and arid/semiarid eco.ystems because soil water co.dition also plays an important role in mediating *** We used growing degree day(GDD)model and growing season index(GSI)model,co.pling minimum temperature(T_(min))with soil moisture(SM)to explore the influence of heat requirement and hydroclimatic interaction on the start of carbon uptake period(SCUP)and net eco.ystem productivity(NEP)in two alpine meadows with different precipitation regimes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP).One is the water-limited alpine steppe-meadow,and the other is the temperature-limited alpine *** Findings We observed two clear patterns linking GDD and GSI to SCUP:SCUP was similarly sensitive to variations in preseason GDD and GSI in the humid alpine shrub-meadow,while SCUP was more sensitive to the variability in preseason GSI than GDD in the semiarid alpine *** divergent patterns indicated a balance of the limiting climatic factors between temperature and water *** the humid meadow,higher temperature sensitivity of SCUP co.ld maximize thermal benefit without drought stress,as evidenced by the stronger linear co.relation co.fficient(R2)and Akaike’s information criterion(AIC)between observed SCUPs and those of simulated by GDD ***,greater water sensitivity of SCUP co.ld maximize the benefit of water in semiarid steppe-meadow,which is indicated by the stronger R2 and AIC between observed SCUPs and those of simulated by GSI ***,although SCUPs were determined by GDD in the alpine shrub-meadow eco.ystem,NEP was both co.trolled by accumulative GSI in two alpine *** study highlights the impacts of hydroclimatic interaction on spring carbon flux phenology and vegetation productivity in the humid and semiarid alpine *** resu

Melatonin is a co.served pleiotropic molecule in animals and *** is involved in many development processes and stress responses;thus,exploring its function in plants,particularly in horticultural plants,has beco.e a rapidly developing *** studies have revealed that phytomelatonin acts as a plant biostimulant and increase its tolerance to various abiotic stressors,including extreme temperature,drought,osmotic disturbance,heavy metals,and ultraviolet(UV).Melatonin appears to have roles in the scavenging of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and other free radicals,affecting the primary and seco.dary metabolism of plants,regulating the transcripts of stress-related enzymes and transcription factors,and crosstalk with other hormones under different environmental *** pleiotropy makes phytomelatonin an attractive regulator to improve resistance to abiotic stress in *** recent disco.ery of the potential phytomelatonin receptor CAND2/PMTR1 and the proposition of putative models related to the phytomelatonin signaling pathways makes phytomelatonin a new plant *** on relevant studies from our laboratory,this review summarizes the phytomelatonin biosynthetic and metabolic pathways in plants and the latest research progress on phytomelatonin in abiotic stress of horticultural *** study will provide a reference for elucidating the regulatory mechanism of phytomelatonin affecting the resistance to abiotic stress in plants.

Effects of Cultivation Method on Seed Yield and Quality of Bitter Gourd

This experiment was carried out to study the possibility of producing germinating seeds of bitter gourd(Momordica charamtia L.)in the climatic co.ditions of *** of Indian cultivar‘Nana’were sown in the greenhouse and produced transplants were planted on the *** plants were cultivated in the field in 2 ways:tied to the sticks or creeping on the *** the vegetation,the ripen fruits with seeds were co.lected 6 times,and after extracting,they were germinated in the laboratory following the routine ISTA *** best transplants of bitter gourd were received within one month from the seeds emerging 51.8%.The transplant of bitter gourd had average height of7 cm,3-4 leaves,out of which the biggest had the width of 5 *** transplants would grow into fruiting *** growing bitter gourd for seeds,the earliest fruits were harvested from the plants tied to the ***,the best seeds were harvested from 2/3 of early *** the purpose of seed production,it is reco.mended to keep only 3-4 fruits per plant and remove other *** produced seeds germinated from 8%to 24%.If the plants were tied to the sticks,their fruits ripened *** used production way and time of harvest of fruits had no effect on the seed *** cultivation methods of bitter gourd plants had no effect on the chemical co.ponents of fruits.

Owing to the limitation of a large genome size(~13 Gb),the genetic and gene mapping studies on faba bean(Vicia faba L.)are lagging far behind those for other *** this study,we selected three purified faba bean lines(Yundou 8137,H0003712,and H000572)as parents and co.structed two F2 *** two F2 populations,namely 167 F2 plants in Pop1(Yundou 8137×H0003712)and 204 F2 plants in Pop2(H000572×Yundou 8137),were genotyped using a targeted next-generation sequencing(TNGS)genotyping platform,and two high-density single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNP)genetic linkage maps of faba bean were *** map co.structed from Pop1 co.tained 5103 SNPs with a length of 1333.31 cM and an average marker density of 0.26 *** map co.structed from Pop2 co.tained 1904 SNPs with a greater length of 1610.61 *** these two F2 populations,QTL mapping identified 98 QTLs for 14 agronomic traits related to the flowers,pods,plant types and *** two maps were then merged into an integrated genetic linkage map co.taining 6895 SNPs,with a length of 3324.48 *** results not only lay the foundation for fine mapping and map-based cloning of related genes,but can also accelerate the molecular marker-assisted breeding of faba bean.

Isolation and Identification of Squash Leaf Curl China Virus in Zucchini

[Objectives]In 2019,virus diseases occurred widely on zucchini planted in Shandong *** disease symptom was different from previous *** study aimed to identify the pathogen causing the zucchini virus disease.[Methods]Ten diseased zucchini leaves were co.lected in the field and used as materials for PCR and sequencing.[Results]PCR detection and sequencing showed that the nucleotide sequence of the amplified fragment had the highest identity with the squash isolate of squash leaf curl China virus(SLCCNV)(MW389919.1)in Guangdong *** were further designed for amplifying the full-length *** full-length DNA-A was 2730 bp(OM692270.1),and the full-length DNA-B was 2711 bp(OM692269.1).Through sequence alignment,it was found that the DNA-A sequence shared identity of 89.65%-99.42%with registered SLCCNV,and the identity with the SLCCNV-GDHY pumpkin isolate(MW389919.1)in Guangdong was the highest,at 99.42%.The DNA-B sequence was identical with registered SLCCNV in the range of 81.82%-97.29%,and the identity with the SLCCNV-GDHY pumpkin isolate(MW389918.1)in Guangdong,was the highest,at 97.29%.Therefore,it was speculated that SLCCNV is the pathogen of zucchini virus *** the virus was first found on zucchini in Shandong,it was named SLCCNV-SD.[co.clusions]This study provides materials for the research on the spread of SLCCNV in China and the analysis of population genetic characteristics,as well as a reference for the prevention and co.trol of the virus in zucchini.

Effect of strawberry vein banding virus and strawberry mottle virus co.infection on the growth and development of strawberry

Strawberry mottle virus(SMoV)and strawberry vein banding virus(SVBV)cause diseases on strawberry plants,but the effect of co.nfection of SMoV and SVBV on the growth,development,and defense system of strawberry(Fragaria×ananassa Duchesne)remains *** investigated the effect of SMoV and SVBV co.nfection on strawberry cultivar‘Benihope’.The results showed that stem diameter,leaf size,leaf number,relative chlorophyll co.tent,total chlorophyll co.tent,photosynthetic parameters,and stomatal aperture of SMoV and SVBV co.infected strawberry(VIS)plants were in a weaker level than uninfected co.trol plants,indicating that viruses inhibited the growth and photosynthesis of strawberry ***,the initiation of flowering and fruiting stages of VIS plants were delayed by about three weeks co.pared with the co.trols,and the fruiting period was shortened,demonstrating that the reproduction of VIS plants was *** quality was damaged in VIS plants due to a significant increase in fruit firmness and titratable acidity and decrease in total soluble solid co.tent than co.trol *** dead cells and H_(2)O_(2) accumulated along the veins of VIS leaves,and the co.tent of abscisic acid and catalase activity significantly increased,whereas anthocyanin co.tent was lower than that of co.trol *** results demonstrate that SVBV and SMoV co.nfection inhibits the growth and development of‘Benihope’strawberry plants,and the plants respond to viruses by regulating stomatal aperture,the accumulation of ABA and *** our knowledge,this study co.tributes information to understand how both viruses impair the strawberry growth and development for the first time.
