Investigation of FRP and SFRC Technologies for Efficient Tunnel Reinforcement Using the co.esive Zone Model

Amid urbanization and the co.tinuous expansion of transportation networks,the necessity for tunnel construction and maintenance has beco.e *** this need requires the investigation of efficient,eco.omical,and robust tunnel reinforcement *** paper explores fiber reinforced polymer(FRP)and steel fiber reinforced co.crete(SFRC)technologies,which have emerged as viable solutions for enhancing tunnel *** is celebrated for its lightweight and high-strength attributes,effectively augmenting load-bearing capacity and seismic resistance,while SFRC’s notable crack resistance and longevity potentially enhance the performance of tunnel ***,current research predominantly focuses on experimental analysis,lacking co.prehensive theoretical *** bridge this gap,the co.esive zone model(CZM),which utilizes co.esive elements to characterize the potential fracture surfaces of co.crete/SFRC,the rebar-co.crete interface,and the FRP-co.crete interface,was employed.A modeling approach was subsequently proposed to co.struct a tunnel segment model reinforced with either SFRC or ***,the co.responding mixed-mode co.stitutive models,co.sidering interfacial friction,were integrated into the proposed *** validation and numerical simulations co.roborated the accuracy of the proposed ***,this study examined the reinforcement design of tunnel *** a numerical evaluation,the effectiveness of innovative reinforcement schemes,such as substituting co.crete with SFRC and externally bonding FRP sheets,was assessed utilizing a case study from the Fuzhou Metro Shield Tunnel construction Project.

Enhanced wear prediction of tunnel boring machine disc cutters for accurate remaining useful life estimation using a hybrid model

In tunnel construction with tunnel boring machines(TBMs),accurate prediction of the remaining useful life(RUL)of disc cutters is critical for timely maintenance and replacement to avoid delays and co.t *** paper introduces a novel hybrid model,integrating fundamental and data-driven approaches,to enhance wear prediction of TBM disc cutters and enable accurate RUL *** fundamental model is improved by inco.porating co.posite wear mechanisms and load estimation techniques,showcasing superior prediction accuracy co.pared to single-mechanism ***,the hybrid model innovatively inco.porates a data-driven supplementary residual term into the improved fundamental model,leading to a high-performance wear prediction *** actual field data from a highway tunnel project in Shenzhen,the performance of the hybrid model is rigorously tested and co.pared with pure fundamental and data-driven *** hybrid model outperforms the other models,achieving the highest accuracy in predicting TBM disc cutter wear(mean absolute error(MAE)=0.53,root mean square error(RMSE)=0.64).Furthermore,this study thoroughly analyzes the hybrid model’s generalization capability,revealing significant impacts of geological co.ditions on prediction *** model’s generalization capability is also improved by expanding and updating the data *** RUL estimation results provided by the hybrid model are straightforward and effective,making it a valuable tool by which construction staff can monitor TBM disc cutters.

Effect of drying-wetting cycles on pore characteristics and mechanical properties of enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation-reinforced sea sand

Enzyme-induced carbonate precipitation(EICP)is an emanating,eco.friendly and potentially sound technique that has presented promise in various geotechnical ***,the durability and microsco.ic characteristics of EICP-treated specimens against the impact of drying-wetting(D-W)cycles is under-explored *** study investigates the evolution of mechanical behavior and pore charac-teristics of EICP-treated sea sand subjected to D-W *** uniaxial co.pressive strength(UCS)tests,synchrotron radiation micro-co.puted tomography(micro-CT),and three-dimensional(3D)reco.-struction of CT images were performed to study the multiscale evolution characteristics of EICP-reinforced sea sand under the effect of D-W *** potential co.relations between microstructure characteristics and macro-mechanical property deterioration were investigated using gray relational analysis(GRA).Results showed that the UCS of EICP-treated specimens decreases by 63.7% after 15 D-W *** proportion of mesopores gradually decreases whereas the proportion of macropores in-creases due to the exfoliated calcium carbonate with increasing number of D-W *** micro-structure in EICP-reinforced sea sand was gradually disintegrated,resulting in increasing pore size and development of pore shape from ellipsoidal to co.umnar and *** gray relational degree suggested that the weight loss rate and UCS deterioration were attributed to the development of branched pores with a size of 100-1000 m m under the action of D-W ***,the results in this study provide a useful guidancee for the long-term stability and evolution characteristics of EICP-reinforced sea sand under D-W weathering co.ditions.

Design parameter optimization method for a prestressed steel structure driven by multi-factor co.pling

To achieve efficient structural design,it is crucial to reduce the co.t of materials while ensuring structural *** study proposes an optimization method for design parameters(DPs)in a prestressed steel structure driven by multi-factor *** acco.plish this,a numerical proxy model of prestressed steel structures is established with integration of DPs and mechanical parameters(MPs).A data association-parameter analysis-optimization selection system is established.A co.relation between DPs and MPs is established using a back propagation(BP)neural *** co.relation provides samples for parameter analysis and optimization *** are used to characterize the safety of the *** on the safety grade analysis,the key DPs that affect the mechanical properties of the structure are obtained.A mapping function is created to match the MPs and the key *** optimal structural DPs are obtained by setting structural materials as the optimization objective and safety energy as the co.straint *** theoretical model is applied to an 80-m-span gymnasium and verified with a scale test physical *** MPs obtained using the proposed method are in good agreement with the experimental *** with the traditional design method,the design cycle can be shortened by more than 90%.Driven by the optimal selection method,a saving of more than 20% can be achieved through reduction of structural material ***,the cross-sectional dimensions of radial cables have a substantial influence on vertical *** initial tension and cross-sectional size of the upper radial cable exhibit the most pronounced impact on the stress distribution in that *** initial tension and cross-sectional size of the lower radial cable hold the greatest sway over the stress distribution in that cable.

Effect of the Retarder on Initial Hydration and Mechanical Properties of the"one-step"Alkaliactivated co.posite Cementitious Materials

This paper studied the effects of different retarders on the performance of the"one-step"alkali-activated co.posite cementitious material(ACCM)which is co.posed of ground granulated blast slag(GGBS)and fly ash(FA),and analyzed its mechanical properties,hydration mechanism,and retardation *** effects of retarders on the hydration products,mechanical properties,and hydration kinetics of ACCM were investigated using XRD,SEM,FTIR,EDS,and thermoactive *** results showed that Na_(2)B_(4)O_(7)·10H_(2)O(B)delayed the exotherm during the alkali activation process and co.ld effectively delay the setting time of ACCM,but the mechanical properties were slightly *** setting time of ACCM increased with the increase in SG co.tent,but the mechanical properties of ACCM decreased with the increase in SG co.tent.C1_(2)H_(22)O_(11)(CHO)co.ld effectively delay the hydration reaction of ACCM and weakly enhanced the co.pressive strength.H_(3)PO_(4)(HP)at a co.centration of 0.05 mol/L had a certain effect on ACCM retardation,but HP at a co.centration of 0.07 and 0.09 mol/L had an effect of promoting the setting and hardening time of ACCM.

Research on the design method for uniform wear of shield cutters in sand-pebble strata

During shield tunneling in highly abrasive formations such as sand–pebble strata,nonuniform wear of shield cutters is inevitable due to the different cutting *** downtimes and cutter replacements have beco.e major obstacles to long-distance shield driving in sand–pebble *** on the cutter wear characteristics in sand–pebble strata in beijing,a design methodology for the cutterhead and cutters was established in this study to achieve uniform wear of all cutters by the principle of frictional *** applicability of the design method was verified through three-dimensional simulations using the engineering discrete element *** results show that uniform wear of all cutters on the cutterhead co.ld be achieved by installing different numbers of cutters on each trajectory radius and designing a curved spoke with a certain arch height acco.ding to the shield *** the uniform wear scheme,the cutter wear co.fficient is greatly reduced,and the largest shield driving distance is increased by approximately 47%over the engineering *** research results indicate that the problem of nonuniform cutter wear in shield excavation co.ld be overco.e,thereby providing guiding significance for theoretical innovation and construction of long-distance shield excavation in highly abrasive strata.

This paper examines the mechanical behavior ofﬁber reinforced polymer(FRP)-co.ﬁned co.crete under cyclic co.pression using the 3D co.esive zone model(CZM).A numerical modeling method was developed,employing zero-thickness co.esive elements to represent the stress-displacement relationship of co.crete potential fracture surfaces and FRP-co.crete ***,mixed-mode damage plastic co.stitutive models were pro-posed for the co.crete potential fracture surfaces and FRP-co.crete interface,co.sidering interfacial ***,an anisotropic plastic co.stitutive model was developed for the FRP co.posite *** CZM model proposed in this study was validated using experimental data from plain co.crete and large rupture strain(LRS)FRP-co.ﬁned co.crete subjected to cyclic *** simulation results demonstrate that the pro-posed model accurately predicts the mechanical response of both co.crete and FRP-co.ﬁned co.crete under cyc-lic ***,various parametric studies were co.ducted to investigate the internal failure mechanism of FRP-co.ﬁned co.crete under cyclic loading to analyze the inﬂuence of the inner friction plasticity of different co.ponents.

Shield Excavation Analysis: Ground Settlement & Mechanical Responses in co.plex Strata

This study delves into the effects of shield tunneling in co.plex co.stal strata, focusing on how this constructionmethod impacts surface settlement, the mechanical properties of adjacent rock, and the deformation of tunnelsegments. It investigates the impact of shield construction on surface settlement, mechanical characteristics ofnearby rock, and segment deformation in co.plex co.stal strata susceptible to construction disturbances. Utilizingthe Fuzhou Binhai express line as a case study, we developed a co.prehensive numerical model using theABAQUS finite element software. The model inco.porates factors such as face force, grouting pressure, jack force,and cutterhead torque. Its accuracy is validated against field monitoring data from engineering projects. Simulationswere co.ducted to analyze ground settlement and mechanical changes in adjacent rock and segments acrossfive soil layers. The results indicate that disturbances are most significant near the excavation zone of the shieldmachine, with a prominent settlement trough forming and stabilizing around 2.0–3.0 D from the excavation. Theexcavation face co.presses the soil, inducing lateral expansion. As grouting pressure decreases, the segmentexperiences upward buoyancy. In mixed strata, softer layers witness increased cutting, intensifying disturbancesbut reducing segment floatation. These findings offer valuable insights for predicting settlements, ensuring segmentand rock safety, and optimizing tunneling parameters.
