We present polyethylene oxide （PEO） functional films polymerized by rf plasma-enhanced vapour chemical deposition （rf-PECVD） on p-Si （100） surface with precursor ethylene glycol dimethyl ether （EGDME） and diluted Ar in pulsed plasma mode. The influences of discharge parameters on the film properties and compounds are investigated. The film structure is analysed by Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） spectroscopy. The water contact angle measurement and atomic force microscope （AFM） are employed to examine the surface polarity and to detect surface morphology, respectively. It is concluded that the smaller duty cycle in pulsed plasma mode contributes to the rich C-O C （EO） group on the surfaces. As an application, the adsorption behaviour of platelet-rich plasma on plasma polymerization films performed in-vitro is explored. The shapes of attached cells are studied in detail by an optic invert microscope, which clarifies that high-density C-O-C groups on surfaces are responsible for non-fouling adsorption behaviour of the PEO fihns.

Low density lipoprotein receptor (LDL\|R) plays an important role in removing LDL from plasma and preventing producing atherosclerosis. To test hepatic reconstitution of LDL\|R expression is sufficient for metabolic correction of subjects with hypercholesterolemia; a recombinant adeno\|associated virus (rAAV) carrying the human LDL receptor cDNA (AAV/LDL\|R) was constructed. Using adenosome, a complex of adenoviral capsid protein and liposome, to transfer the rAAV into livers of rabbits with experimental hypercholesterolemia could elicit the production of LDL\|R and lower plasma cholesterol level. These results demonstrate that AAV\|mediated transfer of LDL\|R gene may provide an alternative means to gene therapy of hypercholesterolemia.

Recent studies have shown the in vitro neuro-protective functions of atmospheric pressure plasma(APP)against multiple pathological injuries during ischaemic stroke(IS).However,whether APP treatment exerts a therapeutic effect on a rat IS model remains ***,on the basis of needle-to-ring dielectric barrier discharge,an atmospheric pressure plasma jet(APPJ)was designed,with the Helium as the working gas which was driven by a sinusoidal ***,the treatment conditions were optimised for IS rat model treatment and the characteristics of this APPJ were further ***,the rat IS model was established through 90 min middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO),and plasma was intermittently inhaled by rats via the nasal cavity for a 2 min period at 60 min of MCAO *** therapeutic effects of this plasma jet device were then evaluated using biomedical *** to our results,intermittent APP inhalation in the MCAO rats increased the serum NO content,improved the neurological function,enhanced regional cerebral blood flow,lowered brain infarction,and reduced the cell apoptosis in brain tissues of MCAO ***,our data provides a novel potential strategy for IS treatment by using atmospheric-pressure plasma inhalation.

γδT cells play important roles in innate immunity as the first-line of defense against infectious diseases. Human immunodeficiency virus （HIV） infection disrupts the balance between Vδ1 T cells and Vδ2 T cells and causes dysfunction among γδ T cells. However, the biological mechanisms and clinical consequences of this disruption require further investigation. In this study, we performed a comprehensive analysis of phenotype and function of memory γδ T cells in cohorts of Chinese individuals with HIV infection. We found a dynamic change in memory Vδ2 γδ T cells, skewed toward an activated and terminally differentiated effector memory phenotype TEMRA Vδ2 γδT cell, which may account for the dysfunction of Vδ2 γδT cells in HIV disease. In addition, we found that IL-17-producing γδ T cells were significantly increased in HIV-infected patients with fast disease progression and positively correlated with HLA-DR＋ γδ T cells and CD38＋HLA-DR＋ γδ T cells. This suggests the IL-17 signaling pathway is involved in γδ T-cell activation and HIV pathogenesis. Our findings provide novel insights into the role of Vδ2 T cells during HIV pathogenesis and represent a sound basis on which to consider immune therapies with these cells.

Immunotherapy may be used for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme; however, the induced immune response is inadequate when either T cells or dendritic cells are used alone. In this study we established a novel vaccine procedure in rats, using dendritic cells pulsed with C6 tumor cell lysates in combination with adoptive transfer of T lymphocytes from syngenic donors. On day 21 after tumor inoculation, all the rats were sacrificed, the brains were harvested for calculation of glioma volume, cytolytic T lymphocyte responses were measured by cytotoxic assay, and the frequency of regulatory T lymphocytes （CD4＋CD25~FOXP3~） in the peripheral blood was investigated by flow cytometric analysis. The survival rate of rats bearing C6 glioma was observed. Results showed that the co-immunization strategy had significant anti-tumor potential against the pre-established C6 glioma, and induced a strong cytolytic T lymphocyte response in rats. The frequency of peripheral blood CD4＊CD25＊FOXP3＊ regulatory T lymphocytes was significantly decreased following the combination therapy, and the rats survived for a longer period. Experimental findings indicate that the combined immunotherapy of glioma cell lysate-pulsed dendritic cell vaccination following adoptive transfer of T cells can effectively inhibit the growth of gliomas in rats, boost anti-tumor immunity and produce a sustained immune response while avoiding the accumulation of CD4＋CD25＋FOXP3＋ regulatory r lymphocytes.

The rheological behavior of RBCs treated with WGA of different concentrations was measured by the recently developed new Ektacytometry method in suspending medium of low viscosity. The biophysical meanings of the orientation index \%(DI)\% or and the small deformation index \%(DI)\%\-d in the new Ektacytometry were explained by comparison with the results using the fluorescence polarization technique and the electron spin resonance technique (ESR).

NON-SMALL-CELL lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for 75%—80% of all lung cancers. Controlled-Release Oxycodone Alone or Combined with Gabapentin for Management of Malignant Neuropathic Pain

Objective： To evaluate the analgesic efficacy of controlled-release （CR） oxycodone and gabapentin in malignant neuropathic pain （NP）. Methods： Patients with malignant NP were enrolled and baseline pain intensity （PI） was recorded. They initially took one week CR oxycodone and were allocated to two different groups at day 8 by reevaluated PI. Patients with mild pain went to CR oxycodone mono-therapy group （OO group） and took another two weeks CR oxycodone. Others went to （CR oxycodone combined gabapentin group （OG group） and received additional gabapentin. Daily doses and side effects were recorded. Results： Fifty-eight （92.06%） of the 63 enrolled patients completed the initial week＇s therapy. Twenty-two （37.93%） went to OO group and PI significantly reduced at day 15 （2.00 vs. 2.62, P=0.004）, but not improved at day 22 （1.90 vs. 2.00, P=0.54）. Thirty-six （62.07%） patients went to OG group and PI was significantly reduced at day 15 （4,47 vs. 2.94, P〈0.001）, but not improved at day 22 （2.94 vs. 2.75, P=0.136）. Mean daily dose （MDD） of CR oxycodone at day 8 was 62.64 mg. It was significantly increased at days 15 and 22 （71.43 mg vs. 62.64 rag, P=0.021; 81.90 mg vs. 71.43 mg, P=0.004） in OO group. MDD of gabapentin was significantly increased at day 22 compared to day 15 （862.50 mg vs. 993.75 mg, P〈0.001）. Constipation was occurred in 13.64% of the patients in OO group and 14.26 % in OG group. Conclusion： Malignant NP may be well controlled by oxycodone mono-therapy. Early combination with gabapentin is sensible when pain is not satisfactory relieved by oxycodone alone. The side effects of them are manageable.

Association of three single nucleotide polymorphisms at the SIX1-SIX6 locus with primary open angle glaucoma in the Chinese population

This study investigated the genetic association of three single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs; rs 10483727, rs33912345, and rs146737847） at the SIX1-SIX6 locus with primar-y open angle glaucoma （POAG） in the Chinese population. A total of 866 subjects with POAG （685 high-tension glaucoma （HTG） and 181 normal-tension glaucoma （NTG）） and 266 control individu- als were included. Significant genetic association was identified for rs 10483727 in HTG （P=0.02; odds ratio （OR）=l.31）, NTG （P=7.41x10-6; OR=2.71）, and POAG （i.e., HTG and NTG combined; P=0.001; OR=1.44）. rs33912345 was also significantly associated with HTG （P=0.008; OR=1.36）, NTG （P=2.72x10-6; OR=2.27）, and POAG （P=3.84x10-4; OR=1.49）. The rare SIX6 mutation, rs146737847, was not found in the subjects enrolled in this study. Stratification by patient age identified that both rs10483727 and rs33912345 were significantly associated with NTG in patients aged above 40 years （P=2.08x10-5; OR=2.28）, whereas in patients aged between 20-40 years, rs33912345 was significantly associated with NTG （P=0.017; OR=2.06）. In HTG, the genetic associations for both rs10483727 and rs33912345 were significant in patients aged between 20-40 years （P=0.006; OR= 1.56） but not in those aged above 40 years （P=0.118, 0R=1.21 and P=0.042, OR= 1.29, respec- tively）. This study replicated the association of POAG with two SNPs at the SIX1-SIX6 locus and demonstrated that SNPs, rs10483727 and rs33912345, are significantly associated with POAG, especially with NTG in patients aged above 40 years.
