Bacterial pathogens pose a serious threat to human health,and there is an urgent need to develop highly effective antibacterial materials to eliminate the increasingly serious contamination of drug-resistant ***,a Cu-doped ZIF-8 particle with unsaturated copper exhibits high peroxidase-like activity.99.998%antibacterial efficiency against *** can be achieved for 30 min at a low concentration of 50μg·mL^(−1),as well as complete sterilization against ***(up to 8 log).99.999%antibacterial efficiency against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus can be achieved,performing orders of magnitude higher than *** mechanism shows that the unsaturated Cu-Nx sites are enzyme-like active centers,which could promote the consumption of bacteria reducing substances by H_(2)O_(2),and the generated*OH further aggravates bacterial oxidative stress and membrane *** importantly,the oxidation activity of adsorbed oxygen species on Cu-ZIF-8 is enhanced by charge transfer and structural changes between the ligand and copper center like natural ***-doped ZIF-8 with peroxidase-like activity shows great potential in antibacterial application and the revealed catalytic mechanism is helpful for understanding the high antibacterial activity of nanoparticles with Cu-Nx sites.

Epidemiological features of seasonal influenza transmission among 11 climate zones in Chinese mainland

Background Previous studies provided some evidence of meteorological factors influence seasonal influenza transmission patterns varying across regions and latitudes. However, research on seasonal influenza activities based on climate zones are still in lack. This study aims to utilize the ecological-based Koppen Geiger climate zones classification system to compare the spatial and temporal epidemiological characteristics of seasonal influenza in Chinese mainland and assess the feasibility of developing an early warning *** Weekly influenza cases number from 2014 to 2019 at the county and city level were sourced from China National Notifiable Infectious disease Report Information System. Epidemic temporal indices, time series seasonality decomposition, spatial modelling theories including Moran’s/ and local indicators of spatial association were applied to identify the spatial and temporal patterns of influenza *** All climate zones had peaks in Winter-Spring season. Arid, desert, cold (BWk) showed up the first peak. Only Tropical, savannah (Aw) and Temperate, dry winter with hot summer (Cwa) zones had unique summer peak. Temperate, no dry season and hot summer (Cfa) zone had highest average incidence rate (IR) at 1.047/100,000. The Global Moran’s/ showed that average IR had significant clustered trend (z = 53.69,P < 0.001), with local Moran’s/ identified high-high cluster in Cfa and Cwa. IR differed among three age groups between climate zones (0-14 years old:F = 26.80,P < 0.001;15-64 years old:F = 25.04,P < 0.001;Above 65 years old:F = 5.27,P < 0.001). Age group 0-14 years had highest average IR in Cwa and Cfa (IR= 6.23 and 6.21) with unique dual peaks in winter and spring season showed by seasonality *** Seasonal influenza exhibited distinct spatial and temporal patterns in different climate zones. Trimethylamine N-oxide aggravates vascular permeability and endothelial cell dysfunction under diabetic condition:in vitro and in vivo study

AIM:To provide the direct evidence for the crucial role of trimethylamine N-oxide(TMAO)in vascular permeability and endothelial cell dysfunction under diabetic ***:The role of TMAO on the in vitro biological effect of human retinal microvascular endothelial cells(HRMEC)under high glucose conditions was tested by a cell counting kit,wound healing,a transwell and a tube formation *** inflammation-related gene expression affected by TMAO was tested by real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).The expression of the cell junction was measured by Western blotting(WB)and immunofluorescence *** addition,two groups of rat models,diabetic and non-diabetic,were fed with normal or 0.1%TMAO for 16wk,and their plasma levels of TMAO,vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),interleukin(IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-αwere *** vascular permeability of rat retinas was measured using FITC-Dextran,and the expression of zonula occludens(ZO)-1 and claudin-5 in rat retinas was detected by WB or immunofluorescence ***:TMAO administration significantly increased the cell proliferation,migration,and tube formation of primary HRMEC either in normal or high-glucose ***-PCR showed elevated inflammation-related gene expression of HRMEC under TMAO stimulation,while WB or immunofluorescence staining indicated decreased cell junction ZO-1 and occludin expression after high-glucose and TMAO *** rats showed higher plasma levels of TMAO as well as retinal vascular leakage,which were even higher in TMAO-feeding diabetic ***,TMAO administration increased the rat plasma levels of VEGF,IL-6 and TNF-αwhile decreasing the retinal expression levels of ZO-1 and ***:TMAO enhances the proliferation,migration,and tube formation of HRMEC,as well as destroys their vascular integrity and tight *** also regulates the expression of VEGF,IL-6,and TNF-α.

Genetic and biological properties of H9N2 avian influenza viruses isolated in central China from2020 to 2022

The H9N2 subtype of avian influenza virus(A/V)is widely prevalent in poultry and wild birds globally,and has become the predominant subtype circulating in poultry in *** H9N2 AIV can directly or indirectly(by serving as a"donor virus")infect humans,posing a significant threat to public ***,there is a lack of in-depth research on the prevalence of H9N2 viruses in Shanxi Province,central *** this study,we isolated 14 H9N2 Al/Vs from October 2020 to April 2022 in Shanxi Province,and genetic analysis revealed that these viruses belonged to 7 different *** study on animals revealed that the H9N2 strains we identified displayed high transmission efficiency among chicken populations,and exhibited diverse replication abilities within these *** viruses could replicate efficiently in the lungs of mice,with one strain also demonstrating the capacity to reproduce in organs like the brain and *** the cellular level,the replication ability of different H9N2 strains was evaluated using plaque formation assays and multi-step growth curve assays,revealing significant differences in the replication and proliferation efficiency of the various H9N2 viruses at the cellular *** antigenicity analysis suggested that these isolates could be classified into 2 separate antigenic *** research provides crucial data to help understand the prevalence and biological characteristics of H9N2 AlVs in central *** also highlights the necessity of enhancing the surveillance of H9N2 A/Vs.

Socioeconomic inequalities in cancer incidence and mortality:An analysis of GLOBOCAN 2022

Background:Given the recent updates in cancer burden estimates by GLOBOCAN 2022,this study was undertaken to provide pertinent perspectives within the context of the Human Development Index(HDI)and major world ***:Datasets sourced from GLOBOCAN encompassed cancer cases and deaths across all cancer types in 2022,alongside projections up to *** incidences and deaths of the top 10 cancers within China and four distinct HDI-classified regions were compared using descriptive ***-standardized incidence rates(ASIRs)and mortality rates(ASMRs)worldwide for the most prevalent cancers in 2022 across ten largest economies and four-tier HDIs were *** top five cancer types concerning both incidence and mortality in China were delineated by sex and age ***:In males,prostate cancer predominated in countries with low,high(except China),and very high *** and liver cancers were prominent causes of death in countries with low *** females,breast and cervical cancers predominated in countries with low-to-medium *** and colorectal cancer incidence and deaths increased with high HDI for both *** and ASMRs for breast,prostate,lung,and colorectal cancers in the top 10 economies were higher than the global ***,liver,stomach,and cervical cancers in most Western countries exhibited lower *** China,hematologic malignancies(43%)were prevalent among children aged 0-14 years,whereas thyroid cancer led among adolescents and young adults aged 15-39 *** incidence and mortality,lung cancer predominated for individuals over 40 years,except for females aged 40-59 years,in whom breast cancer *** trends indicated substantial increases in new cancer cases(76.6%)and deaths(89.7%)over the next three ***:Infection-and poverty-related cancer burdens are offset by increased prostate,breast,colorectal,and lung cancer incidence associated with rapid societal and economic transi

To the Editor:Disability weights(DWs)are essential factors to quantify health losses relating to non-fatal outcomes for estimates of disability-adjusted life years(DALYs).Although national and subnational sets of DWs were published recently in the Chinese mainland,[1]data from only 4925 participants who responded to population health equivalence(PHE)questions used to anchor the 0-1 DWs scale did not include participants from Fujian ***,it remains unknown whether people living in different cities share the same *** study provided an alternative approach using non-parametric regression to locate the DWs scale,as used in European surveys,[2]aimed at measuring DWs at the provincial and subprovincial levels in Fujian.

Epidemiology of Leprosy in China,2021:An Update

Objective:Leprosy is an infectious diseases that remains a concerning public health *** infection of Mycobacterium leprae still exists at the county level in hard-to-access areas in southwest *** accurate analysis of the prevalence of leprosy in various regions is necessary for the formulation of prevention and control strategies,so we conducted this study to describe the epidemiological characteristics of leprosy in China in 2021 and provide essential information for future national leprosy control and prevention ***:We collected epidemiological data of leprosy from 31 provinces,autonomous regions,and municipalities of China(except for Hong Kong,Macao,and Taiwan)provided by the Leprosy Management Information *** performed a comparative analysis of the epidemiological features of patients with leprosy including age,sex,geographical distribution,and grade of ***:In total,374 newly detected leprosy cases were reported nationwide in China in 2021,giving an incidence rate of 0.27 per million population,which represented a decrease of 7.9%compared with *** the population with leprosy in 2021 that comprised 238 males(63.6%)and 136 females(36.4%),1.9%(7/374)were children younger than 15 years,92.8%(347/374)had multibacillary leprosy,and 18.2%(68/374)had grade 2 *** than half of the new leprosy cases(54.8%,205/374)were distributed in southwest *** were 33 relapsed leprosy cases reported in *** the end of 2021,there were 1,897 registered leprosy cases reported nationwide,giving a prevalence rate of 1.35 per million ***:The leprosy epidemic in China shows a downward trend in terms of the prevalence and incidence ***,the high prevalence of leprosy in southwest China is still a matter of concern.

Performance tests of a portable thyroid radioiodine

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness of a portable thyroid radioiodine meter in on-site monitoring to enhance the monitoring precision of radioiodine inhaled by nuclear medicine staff and ***:A portable thyroid radioiodine meter was developed to measure the 131I activity in the *** tests of the portable thyroid radioiodine meter were conducted using calibration sources and testing methodologies adhering to national metrological ***:The thyroid radioiodine meter exhibited integral non-linearity,8-h measurement stability,measurement linearity,and an energy resolution of 0.42%,1.05%,1.56%,and 7.11%,respectively for ^(137)Cs at 661.66 ***,its minimum detectable activity for ^(131)I at 364.49 keV was approximately 22 Bq(10 min).Conclusion:The developed thyroid radioiodine meter features elevated performance and great potential for application in nuclear medicine and monitoring of responses to nuclear or radiological emergencies.

Effects of loneliness and isolation on cardiovascular diseases:a two sample Mendelian Randomization Study

BACKGROUND Loneliness and isolation are associated with multiple cardiovascular diseases(CVDs),but there is a lack of research on whether they were causally *** conducted a Mendelian Randomization(MR)study to explore causal relationships between loneliness and isolation and multiple *** Single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with loneliness and isolation were identified from a genome-wide association study(GWAS)of 455,364 individuals of European ancestry in the IEU GWAS *** data for 15 CVDs were also obtained from the IEU GWAS *** used three MR methods including inverse variance weighting,MR-Egger,and weighted median estimation to assess the causal effect of exposure on ***'s Q test and MR-Egger intercept test were used to evaluate the heterogeneity and *** MR analysis showed that loneliness and isolation were significantly associated with essential hypertension(OR=1.07,95%CI:1.03-1.12),atherosclerotic heart disease(OR=1.04;95%CI:1.02-1.06),myocardial infarction(OR=1.02;95%CI:1-1.04)and angina(OR=1.04;95%CI=1.02-1.06).No heterogeneity and pleiotropy effects were found in this *** Causal relationship of loneliness and isolation with CVDs were found in this study.
