Biofiltration and disinfection co.etermine the bacterial antibiotic resistome in drinking water:A review and meta-analysis

The bacterial antibiotic resistome(BAR)is one of the most serious co.temporary medical *** BAR problem in drinking water is receiving growing *** this study,we focused on the distribution,changes,and health risks of the BAR throughout the drinking water treatment *** extracted the antibiotic resistance gene(ARG)data from recent publications and analyzed ARG profiles based on diversity,absolute abundance,and relative *** absolute abundance of ARG was found to decrease with water treatment processes and was positively co.related with the abundance of 16S rRNA(r=0.963,/?co.centration was acco.panied by decreasing *** treatment processes,biofiltration and chlorination were disco.ered to play important roles in shaping the bacterial antibiotic *** exhibited positive effects in co.trolling the diversity of ARG,while biofiltration,especially granular activated carbon filtration,increased the diversity of *** biofiltration and chlorination altered the structure of the resistome by affecting relative ARG *** addition,we analyzed the mechanism behind the impact of biofiltration and chlorination on the bacterial antibiotic *** intercepting influent ARG-carrying bacteria,biofilters can enrich various ARGs and maintain ARGs in *** further selects bacteria co.resistant to chlorine and ***,we proposed the BAR health risks caused by biofiltration and chlorination in water *** reduce potential BAR risk in drinking water,membrane filtration technology and water boiling are reco.mended at the point of use.

The removal of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole by a high infiltration rate artificial co.posite soil treatment system

Sulfamethoxzole （SMX） and trimethoprim （TMP）, two co.bined-using sulfonamide antibiotics, have gained increasing attention in the surface water, groundwater and the drinking water because of the eco.ogical risk. The removal of TMP and SMX by artificial co.posite soil treatment system （ACST） with different infiltration rates was systematically investigated using K＋, Na＋, Ca2＋, Mg2＋ hydrogeochemical indexes. Batch experiments showed that the sorption onto the low-co.t and co.mercially available clay ceramsites was effective for the removal of SMX and TMP from water. The co.umn with more silty clay at high infiltration rate （1.394 m·d^-1） had removal rates of 80% to 90% for TMP and 60% to 70% for SMX. High SMX and TMP removal rates had a higher effluent co.centration of K＋, Ca2＋ and Mg2＋ and had a lower effluent Na＋ co.centration. Removal was strongly related to sorption. The results showed that the removal of SMX and TMP was related to hydrogeochemical processes. In this study, ACST is determined to be applicable to the drinking water plants.

Characterization of personal exposure co.centration of fine particles for adults and children exposed to high ambient co.centrations in beijing, China

In China, the health risk from overexposure to particles is beco.ing an important public health co.cern. To investigate daily exposure characteristics to PM 2.5 with high ambient co.centration in urban area, a personal exposure study was co.ducted for school children, and office workers in beijing, China. For all participants （N = 114）, the mean personal 24-hr exposure co.centration was 102.5, 14.7, 0.093, 0.528, 0.934, 0.174 and 0.703 μg/m 3 for PM 2.5 , black carbon, Mn, Al, Ca, Pb, and Fe. Children’s exposure co.centrations of PM 2.5 were 4–5 times higher than those in related studies. The ambient co.centration of PM 2.5 （128.5 μg/m 3 ） was significantly higher than the personal exposure co.centration （P 0.05）, and exceed the reference co.centration （25 μg/m 3 ） of WHO air quality guideline. Good co.relation relationships and significant differences were identified between ambient co.centration and personal exposure co.centration. The relationships indicate that the ambient co.centration is the main factor influencing personal exposure co.centration, but is not a good indicator of personal exposure co.centration. Outdoor activities （co.mute mode, exposure to heating, workday or weekend travel） influenced personal exposure co.centrations significantly, but the magnitude of the influence from indoor activities （exposure to co.king） was masked by the high ambient co.centrations.

Sinks of steel in China-addition to in-use stock, export and loss

China has beco.e the largest producer of crude steel in the world since 1996, which places the co.ntry under huge pressure in terms of resources, energy, and the environment. Examining the driver of steel demand is of great significance to the structural adjustment and sustainable development of the steel industry. The researchers calculate the steel demand in China from 2000 to 2009 based on three sinks （steel stock, export, and loss） by taking the four stages of steel life cycle （production, fabrication and manufacturing, use, and waste manage- ment and recycling） as the study object. The researchers co.clude that addition to in-use stock is the main driver of steel demand and that the 10-year average addition to in- use stock acco.nted for 77% of the steel sinks, in which 55% of the addition occurs in the building sector, and the steel for this segment is of low strength with large co.sumption. Based on the analysis of existing policies, the researchers propose that the steel demand structure will develop toward diversification and that the building sector will realize the upgrade of products as soon as possible to improve co.struction quality. Under the pressure of rising co.t for imported resources, the export ratio of steel products should be co.trolled appropriately. Thus, recy- cling eco.omy should be developed to reduce steel losses.

An Urban Road Risk Assessment Framework Based on co.volutional Neural Networks

In co.temporary cities,road co.lapse is one of the most co.mon *** study proposed a framework for assessing the risk of urban road *** framework first established a risk indicator system that co.bined environmental and anthropogenic factors,such as soil type,pipeline,and co.struction,as well as other ***,an oversampling technique was used to create the *** framework then co.structed and trained a co.volutional neural network(CNN)-based model for risk *** experimental results show that the CNN model(accuracy:0.97,average recall:0.91)outperformed other *** indicator co.tribution analysis revealed that the distance between the road and the co.struction site(co.tribution:0.132)and the size of the co.struction(co.tribution:0.144)are the most significant factors co.tributing to road *** to the natural breaks,a road co.lapse risk map of Foshan City,Guangdong Province,was created,and the risk level was divided into five *** 3%of the roads in the study area are at very high risk,and 6%are at high risk levels,with the high risk roads co.centrated in the east and *** risk map produced by this study can be utilized by local authorities and policymakers to help maintain road safety.

A novel AC turning on behavior model based on survival analysis

Occupant co.trol behavior is a key factor affecting the energy co.sumption of building air-co.ditioners(ACs).The operating behavior of ACs and their models in office buildings have been investigated ***,although the thermal sensation of occupants is affected by their previous thermal experience,few researchers have attempted to inco.porate this effect quantitatively in models of AC turning on *** co.sidering the cumulative effect may result in inaccurate ***,in this study,a survival model is proposed to describe AC turning on behavior in office buildings under the cumulative dimension of *** on a dataset co.taining environmental parameters and occupant behavior information,as well as co.sidering occupants entering a room as the starting event and turning on an air-co.ditioner as the end event,the endurance time before an AC is turned on is investigated,and a survival model is used to predict the probability of the AC turning on due to environmental *** on a switch curve,co.fusion matrix,and tolerance–time curve,the prediction results of the survival model are analyzed and *** results show that a tolerance temperature of 29℃and a tolerance duration setting of 1 h can effectively model the turning on behavior of the *** addition,based on co.parison results of different models,the survival model presents a more stable switching curve,a higher F1 sco.e,and a tolerance curve that is more similar to *** tolerance durations,as well as static and dynamic tolerance temperature settings,are co.sidered to optimize the ***,the AC energy co.sumption is calculated under the survival model and the traditional Weibull *** results were co.pared with measurement,and the survival model verified the improvement effect of prediction accuracy by 8%than the Weibull *** co.sidering the time-transformed accumulation of physical environmental factors,the accuracy of AC turnin

An Intelligent IEQ Monitoring and Feedback System:Development and Applications

Indoor environmental quality(IEQ)significantly affects human health and ***,co.tinuous IEQ monitoring and feedback is of great co.cern in both the industrial and academic ***,most existing studies only focus on developing sensors that co.t-effectively promote IEQ measurement while ignoring interactions between the human side and IEQ *** this study,an intelligent IEQ monitoring and feedback system-the Intelligent Built Enviroment(IBEM)-is ***,the IBEM hardware instrument integrates air temperature,relative humidity,co.(2),particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter no greater than _(2.5)μm(PM_(2.5)),and illuminance sensors within a small *** accuracy of this integrated device was tested through a co.location experiment with reference sensors;the device exhibited a strong co.relation with the reference sensors,with a slight deviation(R^(2)>0.97 and slopes between 1.01 and 1.05).Seco.dly,a wireless data transmission module,a cloud storage module,and graphical user interfaces(i.e.,a web platform and mobile interface)were built to establish a pathway for dataflow and interactive feedback with the occupants of the indoor ***,the IEQ parameters can be co.tinuously monitored with a high spatiotemporal resolution,interactive feedback can be induced,and synchronous data co.lection on occupant satisfaction and objective environmental parameters can be *** has been widely applied in 131 buildings in 18cities/areas in China,with 1188 sample *** these applications,we report on the targeted IEQ diagnoses of two individual buildings and the exploration of relationships between subjective and objective IEQ data in detail *** work demonstrates the great value of IBEM in both industrial and academic research.

China has the world's largest and still growing wastewater sector and water market,thus its future development will have profound influence on the *** high-speed development of China's wastewater sector over the past 40 years has forged its global leading treatment capacity and innovation ***,many problems were left behind,including underdeveloped sewers and sludge disposal facilities,low sustainability of the treatment processes,questionable wastewater treatment plant(WWTP)effluent discharge standards,and lacking global thinking on harmonious development between wastewater management,human society and the *** these challenges calls for fundamental changes in target design,policy and *** this mini-review,we revisit the development history of China's municipal wastewater management and identify the remaining ***,we highlight the future needs of sustainable development and exploring China's own wastewater management path,and outlook the future from several aspects including targets of wastewater management,policies and technologies,especially the new co.cept ***,we envisage the establishment of new-generation WWTPs with the vision of turning WWTP from a site of pollutant removal into a plant of energy,water and fertilizer reco.ery and an integrated part urban eco.ogy in China.

A co.parative analysis of seismic response of shallow buried underground structure under incident P,SV and Rayleigh waves

Volatile organic co.pounds(VOCs)and particulate matter(PM)are both frequently present in air as co.taminants,posing serious health and environmental *** current filtration of VOCs utilizes entirely different materials co.pared with PM filtration,adding co.plexity to air cleaning ***,we design a pitch-based activated carbon ultrathin fibers(PACUFs)for bifunctional air *** PACUFs,with fiber diameter of∼1.2μm and specific surface area of 2341 m^(2) g^(−1),provide both high VOCs adsorption capacity(∼706 mg g^(−1))and excellent efficiency of∼97% PM_(0.3) filtration with low pressure *** co.trast,traditional activated carbon fibers exhibit VOCs adsorption capacity of∼448 mg g^(−1) and PM_(0.3) removal efficiency of only∼36%at an equal area density of∼190 g m^(−2).Theoretical investigations reveal the filtration mechanism of the high-performance bifunctional fibrous PACUFs,co.sidering full advantages of the high surface area,small pore size,and significant micropore volume.
