Maternal weight and its association with risk of overweight in offspring:a trajectory analysis from a birth cohort in China

Background Most studies on the association of maternal pregnancy weight with offspring weight trajectory have a short follow-up *** study aimed to explore the associations of maternal prepregnancy body mass index(BMI)and gestational weight gain(GWG)with childhood weight trajectories in a 7-year birth *** A total of 946 mother–child pairs(467 boys and 479 girls)from a longitudinal birth cohort in Tianjin City,China,were included in this study,ranging from pregnancy to offspring at 7 *** outcome variable was defined as overweight or not overweight in offspring at the last round.A group-based trajectory model was applied to identify childhood BMI trajectory *** Five discrete BMI trajectory groups were identified and characterized as constant underweight(25.2%),constant normal weight(42.8%),and high or increasing trajectory[at risk of overweight(16.9%),progressive overweight(11.0%)and progressive obesity(4.1%)].Maternal prepregnancy overweight was associated with 1.72(95%CI 1.14–2.60,P=0.01)to 4.02(95%CI 1.94–8.36,P<0.001)times the risk of all high or increasing trajectory groups,and excessive GWG was related to groups at risk of overweight[relative risk ratio(RRR)2.09,95%CI 1.27–3.46,P=0.004]and progressive obesity(RRR 3.33,95%CI 1.13–9.79,P=0.029).Children in all high or increasing trajectory groups were associated with greater overweight risk at the last round[risk ratios(RRs)ranged from 3.54(95%CI 2.53–4.95,P<0.001)to 6.18(95%CI 4.05–9.42,P<0.001)].Conclusion Maternal prepregnancy overweight and excessive gestational weight gain were associated with increasing or high-level childhood body mass index trajectories as well as a greater risk of overweight at 7 years.

Objective:Omicron,a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)variant,is responsible for numerous infections in *** study investigates the association between the use of Seven-Flavor Herb Tea(SFHT)and the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection to develop precise and differentiated strategies for control of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Methods:This case-control study was conducted at shelter hospitals and quarantine hotels in China.A total of 5348 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients were enrolled between April 1 and May 31,2022,while 2190 uninfected individuals served as healthy *** questionnaires were used to collect data on demographics,underlying diseases,vaccination status,and use of *** were propensity-score-matched using 1:1 nearest-neighbor matching of the logit of the propensity ***,a conditional logistic regression model was used for data ***:Overall,7538 eligible subjects were recruited,with an average age of[45.54±16.94]*** age of COVID-19 patients was significantly higher than that of uninfected individuals([48.25±17.48]years vs[38.92±13.41]years;t=22.437,P<0.001).A total of 2190 COVID-19 cases were matched with uninfected individuals at a 1:1 *** use of SFHT(odds ratio=0.753,95%confidence interval:0.692,0.820)was associated with a lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to untreated ***:Our findings suggest that taking SFHT reduces the risk of SARS-CoV-2 *** is a useful study in the larger picture of COVID-19 management,but data from large-sample multi-center,randomized clinical trial are warranted to confirm the finding.

Many studies have shown that arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus has an important role in soil aggregate formation and stabilization. While most studies about the effects of AM fungus on soil aggregate have experimental set-ups in single pots or containers with two compartments, these studies cannot differentiate the effects of roots, mycorrhizal roots or hyphae. In this study we used containers with four compartments to split the roots and quantitatively compare the change of soil aggregate in the mycorrhizosphere soil, rhizosphere soil, hyphosphere soil and bulk soil. Our results demonstrate a significant positive correlation among hyphal length density, easily extractable glomalin (EEG) and aggregate mean weight diameter (MWD), geometric mean diameter (GMD) and percentage of soil macroaggregate with a diameter larger than 0.25 mm (R0.25). The GMD and MWD of R0.25 in the hyphal compartment were higher than those in the non-inoculated root compartment, but were lower than those in the mycorrhizal compartment. This suggests the mycorrhizal hyphae had a greater effect than the non-inoculated roots, but less of an effect than the mycorrhizal roots on the formation and stabilization of soil aggregate. The results reveal that plant roots, mycorrhizal roots and mycorrhizal hyphae contribute to aggregate stability in individual ways and that their effects are additive, creating a synergistic stabilizing effect.

Generation of transgenic wheat resistant to wheat yellow mosaic virus and identification of gene silence induced by virus infection

The plasmid containing the promoter Actl, the coat protein (cp) gene of wheat yellow mosaic virus (WYMV) and the selectable bar gene, was delivered via particle bombardment, directly into immature embryos of a wheat culti-vars. PCR and PCR-RFLP were employed to screen the existence of the cp gene in T0 and T1 generations. Seeds from the positive T1 plants were sowed in fields heavily contaminated with WYMV to detect their resistance. In field trial of virus infection, one of the transgenic wheat lines, P8-T2, exhibited highly disease-resistance. Western blot and RT-PCR analysis showed that the expression level of cp gene in the resistant transgenic line was reduced greatly compared to those susceptible to WYMV infection. This provided evidence to presume that the resistance obtained by the transgenic wheat line was stimulated by the mechanism of the virus induced gene silencing.
