BACKGROUND Endoscopic rubber band ligation(ERBL)is a nonsurgical technique for the treatment of symptomatic internal hemorrhoids but is limited by recurrence and post-procedural *** To evaluate satisfaction,long-term recurrence,and post-procedural pain in managing internal hemorrhoids using a combination of polidocanol foam sclerotherapy and *** This was a prospective,multicenter,randomized study.A total of 195 consecutive patients diagnosed with grade II-III internal hemorrhoids were enrolled from four tertiary hospitals and randomly divided into a cap-assisted endoscopic polidocanol foam sclerobanding(EFSB)or an ERBL *** patients were followed-up for 12 ***-based severity and post-procedural pain were assessed using a hemorrhoid severity score(HSS)and a visual analog scale(VAS).Continuous variables were reported as medians and interquartile *** One hundred and ninety-five patients were enrolled,with 98 in the EFSB *** was lower in the EFSB group than in the ERBL group at 8 weeks[4.0(3.0-5.0)vs 5.0(4.0-6.0),P=0.003]and 12-month[2.0(1.0-3.0)vs 3.0(2.0-3.0),P<0.001]of *** prolapse recurrence rate was lower in the EFSB group at 12 months(11.2%vs 21.6%,P=0.038).Multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated that EFSB treatment[B=-0.915,95%confidence interval(CI):−1.301 to−0.530,P=0.001]and rubber band number(B=0.843,95%CI:0.595-1.092,P<0.001)were negatively and independently associated with the VAS score 24 hours *** median VAS was lower in the EFSB group than in the ERBL[2.0(1.0-3.0)vs 3.0(2.0-4.0),P<0.001].CONCLUSION Cap-assisted EFSB provided long-term satisfaction and effective relief from the recurrence of prolapse and pain 24 hours post-procedure.

Surface uplift at the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau has been widely studied,but more palaeoaltimetry data are required to better understand the elevation history of this geologically complex *** this study,fossil leaves of Abies(Pinaceae),a cool-temperate element,recovered from the latest Miocene-Pliocene Yangyi Formation of the southern baoshan Basin,were used as a proxy to estimate the local *** on the regional modern altitude range(2100-4280 m)of the genus as well as regional temperature discrepancy(1.5℃)between the past and present,the palaeoelevation of the study area was calculated to be>2360 m above sea level as compared to 1670 m at *** result suggests that the southern baoshan Basin experienced pronounced uplift prior to the time of fossil deposition,probably as a result of crustal shortening and thickening of the northern baoshan Terrane during the *** infer that surface growth in areas south of the Dali Basin may have been greater than previously interpreted,and that a widespread plateau or plateau patches higher than 2000 m probably extended southwards into at least the baoshan Basin by the latest *** also infer that the elevation of the southern baoshan Basin has decreased by at least 690 m since then,in contrast to most other scenarios in which the elevation of the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau has increased or remained close to modern levels since the late *** major cause of the inferred altitude decline is likely tectonic *** a transtensional graben basin,the baoshan Basin has experienced pull-apart and base-fall movement since the late Miocene,which would reduce the altitude of its southern part located on the hanging *** erosion associated with the increased summer rainfall might also have played a role especially in reducing the local relief,although its contribution can be *** study provides one of the few palaeoelevation

Gaoligong Mountain(hereafter,GLGM)is located at the intersection of Myanmar and China’s yunnan province and Xizang Zizhiqu,and spans three globally significant biodiversity hotspots:the Himalayas,Indo-Burma,and the Mountains of Southwest *** surveys of mammals in this ecologically important region have a long history,there is no comprehensive systematic checklist and distribution account of the mammals of ***,we compiled a mammal species checklist of GLGM based on thorough field investigations and literature *** also examined specimen collections and applied camera trapping surveys to explore the region’s mammal diversity and distribution *** recorded 212 mammal species in nine orders,33 families,and 119 genera,which accounts for 30.5%of China’s mammal species,and a high proportion of nationally protected(50)and globally threatened(29)*** species richness showed a symmetrical unimodal curve along the elevation gradient,peaking at intermediate elevations(2000 to 2500 m above sea level(asl)),and increasing generally from south to north,slightly higher in the east slope than in the *** analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling revealed three distinct elevational assemblages(3500 m asl)and significant south-to-north variation,but no substantial differences between the east and west *** GLGM present a unique conservation value due to the high proportions of rare and endangered mammal species,complex faunal composition,high endemism,and being the distribution boundary for many *** study is an important phased account of mammal diversity in GLGM and makes a prospect for future research.

Late Cambrian Magmatic Events in SW yunnan and Implications for the Tectonic Reconstruction of Northern Gondwana

In this study, we investigated Early Paleozoic magmatic rocks of the Manlai Formation exposed along the eastern margin of the Lancang terrane to better understand the tectonic history of the Proto-Tethys. We present petrological, geochemical and whole-rock Sr-Nd and zircon Hf isotopic data for basalts and gabbros sampled from the Qianmai mélange. Zircon grains from six basaltic and gabbroic samples yielded U-Pb ages of 495–482 Ma. These rocks are characterized by tholeiitic and Nbenriched compositions, with Nb/La ratios in the range of 0.38–1.38, similar to the typical Nb-enriched basalts. All the mafic rocks show slightly negative to positive εNd（t）(-1.67 to+4.32) and zircon εHf（t） values（-7.3 to +3.8）. Elemental and isotopic data suggest that the Qianmai Nb-enriched mafic rocks were mainly derived from the mixing of an OIB-like source with a subduction-modified mantle wedge source. Together with magmatic and sedimentary records of similar ages in the Lancang terrane and the baoshan Block, our results reveal Early Paleozoic magmatic and sedimentary sequences along an active margin of the Proto-Tethys. Taking into account the recently identified Early Paleozoic ophiolitic mélange in the Yunxian-Menghai belt, we consider the Qianmai magmatic rocks to represent the products of early-stage subduction-related magmatism within a primitive island arc or fore-arc setting associated with the southward subduction of the Proto-Tethys. We infer that prolonged south-dipping subduction on the northern margin of Gondwana persisted from the Cambrian to the Late Ordovician.

Rice yield is an important and complex agronomic trait controlled by multiple *** recent decades,dozens of yield-associated genes in rice have been cloned,many of which can increase production in the form of loss or degeneration of ***,mutations occurring randomly under natural conditions have provided very limited genetic resources for yield *** this study,potentially yield-increasing alleles of two genes closely associated with yield were edited *** recently developed CRISPR/Cas9system was used to edit two yield genes:Grain number 1a(Gn1a)and DENSE AND ERECT PANICLE1(DEP1).Several mutants were identified by a target sequence *** analysis confirmed one mutant allele of Gn1a and three of DEP1 conferring yield superior to that conferred by other natural high-yield *** results demonstrate that favorable alleles of the Gnla and DEP1 genes,which are considered key factors in rice yield increases,could be developed by artificial mutagenesis using genome editing technology.

Wildfire associated with a deciduous broadleaved forest from the Neogene baoshan Basin at the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau

Wildfire bears a close relationship with vegetation as its fuel *** southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau witnesses frequent wildfires among various types of vegetation,whereas such wide in-teractions between wildfire and vegetation remain poorly studied from geological *** this study,we reported a local fire using sedimentary macroscopic charcoals from the latest Miocene to early Pliocene of the baoshan Basin in this region,and then inferred the local vegetation at the time of the fire event based chiefly on the coexistent fruit and seed fossil *** taxonomic results show that the charcoal assemblage is probably dominated by broadleaved plants and the fruit and seed fossil assemblage is apparently dominated by Salix(Salicaceae)followed by Sambucus(Adoxaceae),suggesting a deciduous broadleaved forest in which the fire likely *** a seasonally dry climate associated with the Asian monsoon,this type of vegetation might be prone to natural fire,because in the wet rainy season the plants grew well to accumulate biofuel and in the dry season abundant ground litter resulting from leaf decay would be desiccated to become highly *** to the fire-tolerant habit of Salix as the dominant plant,the forest might be in return adapted to the fire event or even more fires that potentially *** these may suggest a close relationship between the fire event and the reconstructed *** finding documents a new type of wildfire—vegetation interaction,namely the interaction between wildfire and deciduous broadleaved forest,from the geological past at the southeastern margin of the Tibetan *** therefore sheds new light on the wildfire history coupling vegetation change in the region.
