Background:Extra genetic material in patients with Down syndrome(DS)may affect the function of any organ *** evaluated cardiac functions using conventional tissue Doppler and two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography in patients with DS in the absence of congenital and acquired heart disease in ***:A total of 115 patients with DS between 6 and 13 years of age with clinically and anatomically normal heart and 55 healthy children were included in this cross-sectional *** was diagnosed by a karyotype *** with mosaic type were not included in this *** and diastolic functions were evaluated by ***:Pulsed waved Doppler transmitral early/late inflow velocity(E/A),tissue Doppler mitral annular early/late diastolic peak velocity(Ea/Aa),transtricuspid E/A and tricuspid valve annulus Ea/Aa,pulmonary venous Doppler systolic/diastolic(S/D)wave ratio were lower in patients with Down syndrome than in the control group(P=0.04,P=0.001,P<0.05,P<0.001,P<0.001,respectively).Mitral and tricuspid annular Ea were lower in patients with DS(P<0.001).The right and left ventricular myocardial performance indexes were higher in patients with DS than in the controls(P<0.01).They had significantly higher left ventricular mass,ejection fraction,the mitral annular plane systolic excursion ***,the Down syndrome group compared with the controls had a lower strain values examined by two-dimensional longitudinal speckle-tracking strain ***:These findings suggest conventional tissue Doppler and two-dimensional longitudinal speckletracking strain echocardiography were useful methods of investigating ventricular function and identifying a higher incidence of biventricular dysfunction in patients with Down syndrome compared with the healthy controls.

AIM:To isolate biliary lipid-carrying vesicles from isolated perfused rat livers after taurohyodeoxycholic acid(THDC)*** lipid vesicles have been implicated in hepatic disease and THDC was used since it increases biliary phospholipid ***:Rat livers were isolated and perfused via the hepatic portal vein with THDC dissolved in Krebs Ringer Bicarbonate solution,pH 7.4,containing 1 mmol/L CaCl2,5 mmol/L glucose,a physiological amino acid mixture,1%bovine serum albumin and 20%(v/v)washed human erythrocytes at a rate of 2000 nmol/min for *** livers were then removed,homogenized and subjected to centrifugation,and the microsomal fraction was obtained and further centrifuged at 350000 g for 90 min to obtain subcellular *** were analyzed for total phospholipid,cholesterol,protein and alkaline phosphodiesterase I(PDE).RESULTS:No significant changes were observed in the total phospholipid,cholesterol and protein contents of the gradient fractions obtained from the microsomal ***,the majority of the gradient fractions(ρ=1.05-1.07 g/mL andρ=1.95-1.23 g/mL)obtained from THDC-infused livers had significantly higher PDE activity compared to the control *** low density gradient fraction(ρ=1.05-1.07 g/mL)which was envisaged to contain the putative vesicle population isolated from THDC-perfused livers had relatively small amounts of phospholipids and protein when compared to the relevant control fractions;however,they displayed an increase in cholesterol and PDE *** phospholipids were also isolated by thin layer chromatography and subjected to fractionation by high performance liquid chromatography;however,no differences were observed in the pattern of the fatty acid composition of the phospholipids isolated from THDC and control perfused *** density gradient fractions(ρ=1.10-1.23 g/mL)displayed an increase in all the parameters measured from both control and THDCinfused ***:No significant c

Tsunami ran-up height is a significant parameter for dimensions of coastal structures. In the present study, tsunami run-up heights are estimated by three different Artificial Neural Network （ANN） models, i.e. Feed Forward Back Propagation （FFBP）, Radial Basis Functions （RBF） and Generalized Regression Neural Network （GRNN）. As the input for the ANN configuration, the wave height （H） values are employed. It is shown that the tsunami ran-up height values are closely approximated with all of the applied ANN methods. The ANN estimations are slightly superior to those of the empirical equation. It can be seen that the ANN applications are especially significant in the absence of adequate number of laboratory experiments. The results also prove that the available experiment data set can be extended with ANN simulations. This may be helpful to decrease the burden of the experimental studies and to supply results for comparisons.

The oxygen isotope ratios （δ18O） preserved in marine sediments have been widely used to reconstruct past ocean temperatures. However, there remain significant uncertainties associated with this method, owing to assumptions about the δ18O of ancient seawater which affects the temperature inferred from sediment δ18O records. In this study, oxygen isotope compositions of phosphate in teeth and bones from five different modem cetacean species, including sperm whale, pygmy sperm whale, short-finned pilot whale, killer whale, and Cuvier＇s beaked whale, and three fossil whales were determined. The data were used to assess whether the oxygen isotope ratios of biogenic phosphate （δ18Op） from cetaceans are a reliable proxy for the oxygen isotopic composition of ocean water （δ18Ow）. The δ18Op values of modem cetaceans range from 15.5 ‰ to 21.3 ‰, averaging （19.6 ‰ ±0.8 ‰）（n = 136）.Using a greatly expanded global cetacean δ18Op dataset, the following regression equation is derived for cetaceans： δ18Ow = 0.95317 （4-0.03293） δ18Op- 17.971 （＋0.605）, r = 0.97253. The new equation, when applied to fossil teeth and bones, yielded reasonable estimates of ancient seawater δ18Ow values. Intra-tooth isotopic variations were observed within individual teeth. Among the selected species, the killer whale （O. orca） has largest intra-tooth δ18Op preference and migratory the lowest δ18Op values and the variation, reflecting its habitat behavior. The results show that oxygen isotope analysis of phosphate in cetacean teeth and dense ear bones provides a useful tool for reconstructing the oxygen isotopic composition of seawater and for examining environmental preferences （including migratory behavior） of both modem and ancient whales.

In contemporary Turkish art, topics or items considered obscene by society are being carried out by a number of artists with protest, agitation, anti-propaganda, or strike purposes. Issues that are often seen in social life such as domestic violence, honour killings, rape, gender discrimination, intolerance against minority groups generate some artists＇ main theme in their work. Certain circles do not show any reaction to such social wounds, or even support. These circles that have no discomfort in the existence of these wounds get disturbed when they face these social realities through artistic activities. These artists are subject to threats or even physical attacks by such groups. In this paper, Turkish artists, namely Sukran Moral, Taner Ceylan, and Nezaket Ekici who make use of such obscene scenes in their works, will be analyzed including their performances, reactions, and attitudes toward threats and attacks.

Marble is a metamorphic rock, which is one of the 3 basic rock types (magmatic, sedimentary, metamorphic) forming the earth’s crust. The major characteristic sought after in a rock mass in the field for it to be exportable and usable as marble is its suitability to be cut in blocks. In the process of producing marble slabs from marble blocks, the blocks are expected not to contain potentially problematic hard or weak zones and their geomechanical and chemical properties should conform to the relevant standards. Ignoring of the geological properties of the rock in the process of deciding for marble production at a marble site and determination of production location, direction and method is the most important parameter that would increase production loss. In order to reduce losses by determination of geological properties of marble, many academic studies have been conducted on the effects of water saturation, temperature, freezing and thawing on its mechanical and fracture properties. There are further studies on crack propagation in marble under stress. However, even those marble blocks that are obtained based on geological parameters may suffer serious cracks or fractures due to stresses caused by their weight and geometry. Therefore, cutting direction is of critical importance in order to minimize marble waste in the process of cutting a marble block which is brought to the inventory or processing site with cracks, cavities or fractures. Certain studies exist within such context, where the geometry of the discontinuity within a block is determined using non-destructive methods, such as ultrasonic testing, in order to determine the appropriate cutting direction. Such studies made use of ultrasonic waves to determine the physical and chemical structures of magmatic and sedimentary rocks by measuring the progress velocity of sonic waves in the rock. In this study,the hourly directions of eight banking stocks in Borsa Istanbul were predicted using linear-based,deep-learning(LSTM)and ensemble learning(Light-GBM)*** models were trained with four different feature sets and their performances were evaluated in terms of accuracy and F-measure *** the first experiments directly used the own stock features as the model inputs,the second experiments utilized reduced stock features through Variational AutoEncoders(VAE).In the last experiments,in order to grasp the effects of the other banking stocks on individual stock performance,the features belonging to other stocks were also given as inputs to our *** combining other stock features was done for both own(named as allstock_own)and VAE-reduced(named as allstock_VAE)stock features,the expanded dimensions of the feature sets were reduced by Recursive Feature *** the highest success rate increased up to 0.685 with allstock_own and LSTM with attention model,the combination of allstock_VAE and LSTM with the attention model obtained an accuracy rate of *** the classification results achieved with both feature types was close,allstock_VAE achieved these results using nearly 16.67%less features compared to allstock_*** all experimental results were examined,it was found out that the models trained with allstock_own and allstock_VAE achieved higher accuracy rates than those using individual stock *** was also concluded that the results obtained with the VAE-reduced stock features were similar to those obtained by own stock features.

Boric acid reduces axonal and myelin damage in experimental sciatic nerve injury

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of boric acid in experimental acute sciatic nerve injury. Twenty-eight adult male rats were randomly divided into four equal groups （n = 7）： control （C）, boric acid （BA）, sciatic nerve injury （I） , and sciatic nerve injury ＋ boric acid treatment （BAI）. Sciatic nerve injury was generated using a Yasargil aneurysm clip in the groups I and BAI. Boric acid was given four times at 100 mg/kg to rats in the groups BA and BAI after injury （by gavage at 0, 24, 48 and 72 hours） but no injury was made in the group BA. In vivo electrophysiological tests were performed at the end of the day 4 and sciatic nerve tissue samples were taken for histopathological examination. The amplitude of compound action potential, the nerve conduction velocity and the number of axons were significantly lower and the myelin structure was found to be broken in group I compared with those in groups C and BA. However, the amplitude of the compound action potential, the nerve conduction velocity and the number of axons were significantly greater in group BAI than in group I. Moreover, myelin injury was significantly milder and the intensity of nuclear factor kappa B immunostaining was significantly weaker in group BAI than in group I. The results of this study show that administration of boric acid at 100 mg/kg after sciatic nerve injury in rats markedly reduces myelin and axonal injury and improves the electrophysiological function of injured sciatic nerve possibly through alleviating oxidative stress reactions.
