Comparison of exogenous degrader-enhanced bioremediation with low-dose persulfate oxidation for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon removal in alkaline soil:efficiency and influence on ecological health

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH)-contaminated soils are usually complex and characterized by a lack of nutrition and soil salinization,resulting in difficulties in soil *** this study,bioaugmentation with a PAH-degrading Bacillus PheN7(BA)and low-dose persulfate oxidation(PS),along with natural biodegradation,were utilized to remediate alkaline PAH-contaminated *** soil used in the study had a pH of 9.35,and the total PAH content was 568.8±31.0 mg/kg dry *** 42 d of remediation,the degradation efficiency of PAHs was 96.72%and 93.88%using persulfate oxidation and bioaugmentation,respectively,whereas 38.66%of PAHs were degraded in natural attenuation(NA).Bacillus was the dominant genera throughout the process of bioremediation with the relative abundance of 79.3%on day 42 in the BA system,whereas,Alcanivorax was enriched and became the dominant genera in PS *** the meantime,PAH degradation genes were detected with remarkably higher level in the BA system than in PS system during the *** addition to the degradation of contaminants,persulfate oxidation promotes microbial bioremediation efficiency mainly by lowering the pH to neutral and increasing the active phosphorus content in the *** species and ecological niches were less reduced in the PS system than in the BA ***,persulfate oxidation had a better impact on the soil microbiome and is more suitable for long-term soil health than bioaugmentation through PheN7 addition.

Hope and Academic Procrastination in Adolescents: A Moderated Mediation Model

Academic procrastination among adolescents is an increasingly prominent problem. It is important to look forinfluences behind academic procrastination in the adolescent population. The present study aimed to revealthe explanatory mechanisms underlying the association between hope and academic procrastination behaviorsamong Chinese adolescents by testing the mediating role of attentional control and the moderating role of traitmindfulness. Participants in the current study were 1156 Chinese adolescents who completed self-report questionnaireson hope, attentional control, academic procrastination, and trait mindfulness. The results indicatedthat adolescent hope was negatively related to academic procrastination and that attentional control partiallymediated this association. In addition, trait mindfulness moderated the direct association between hope and academicprocrastination in the mediated model. In conclusion, identifying the mechanisms by which hope is associatedwith academic procrastination in adolescent populations is of potential value for the prevention of andintervention in this undesirable study habit.

Thermal Management of Air-Cooling Lithium-Ion Battery Pack

Lithium-ion battery packs are made by many batteries, and the difficulty in heat transfer can cause many safety issues. It is important to evaluate thermal performance of a battery pack in designing process. Here, a multiscale method combining a pseudo-two-dimensional model of individual battery and three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics is employed to describe heat generation and transfer in a battery pack. The effect of battery arrangement on the thermal performance of battery packs is investigated. We discuss the air-cooling effect of the pack with four battery arrangements which include one square arrangement, one stagger arrangement and two trapezoid arrangements. In addition, the air-cooling strategy is studied by observing temperature distribution of the battery pack. It is found that the square arrangement is the structure with the best air-cooling effect, and the cooling effect is best when the cold air inlet is at the top of the battery pack. We hope that this work can provide theoretical guidance for thermal management of lithium-ion battery packs.

Optimizing Earth Allocation for Rock-Fill Dam Construction

An optimal allocation of earth is of great significance to reduce the project cost and duration in the construction of rock-fill dams. The earth allocation is a dynamic system affected by various time-space constraints. Based on previous studies, a new method of optimizing this dynamic system as a static one is presented. In order to build a generalized and flexible model of the problem, some man-made constraints were investigated in building the mathematic model. Linear programming and simplex method are introduced to solve the optimization problem of earth allocation. A case study in a large-scale rock-fill dam construction project is presented to demonstrate the proposed method and its successful application shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the method.

What Motivate Them to Speak More A Study on Students＇ Perspective

This study is about factors that may facilitate students＇ willingness to speak more in English class. Previous research has shown certain factors would increase class participation from educators＇ view, while in this paper, a survey was designed to find out what students themselves think would motivate them to speak more in class. The survey was given to a group of grade 9 students in a middle school in China. Among the elements that were selected in the survey, the result shows students tend to favor a friendly relationship with the teacher, a warm learning atmosphere, a lively teaching style, and variety interesting learning activities as well as supplemental materials in terms of more verbal participation. The finding reinforces the previous studies on these factors＇ positive roles in promoting students＇ motivation to speak more. This paper is expected to serve as a resource for professionals who work in the relevant area and draw more attention from educators, in particular those in the China context, on this topic

Relative Spectral Lag: a New Redshift Indicator of Gamma-ray Bursts

Using 64 ms count data of long gamma-ray bursts （T90 〉 2.6 s）, we analyze the quantity named relative spectral lag （RSL）, T31/FWHM（1）. We investigated in detail all the correlations between the RSL and other parameters for a sample of nine long bursts, using the general cross-correlation technique that includes the lag between two different energy bands. We conclude that the distribution of RSLs is normal and has a mean value of 0.1; that the RSLs are weakly correlated with the FWHM, the asymmetry, peak flux （Fp）, peak energy （Ep） and spectral indexes （α and β）, while they are uncorrelated with τ31, the hardness- ratio （HR31） and the peak time （tm）. Our important discovery is that redshift （z） and peak luminosity （Lp） are strongly correlated with the RSL, which can be measured easily and directly, making the RSL a good redshift and peak luminosity indicator.

Exact Tail Asymptotics for a Queueing System with a Retrial Orbit and Batch Service

This paper discusses a queueing system with a retrial orbit and batch service, in which the quantity of customers’ rooms in the queue is finite and the space of retrial orbit is infinite. When the server starts serving, it serves all customers in the queue in a single batch, which is the so-called batch service. If a new customer or a retrial customer finds all the customers’ rooms are occupied, he will decide whether or not to join the retrial orbit. By using the censoring technique and the matrix analysis method, we first obtain the decay function of the stationary distribution for the quantity of customers in the retrial orbit and the quantity of customers in the queue. Then based on the form of decay rate function and the Karamata Tauberian theorem, we finally get the exact tail asymptotics of the stationary distribution.

The title polymer was prepared from 5-diethylamino-3-thia-pentyl glycidyl ether anddiethylene glycol bisglycidyl ether via ring-opening copolymerization. It was found that thisreaction could be catalyzed by sodium, but not Lewis acid. The obtained polymer can coordinatewith platinum compound, and the platinum complex is a new kind of catalyst for thehydrosilylation of olefins with triethoxysilane.
