Structural and mechanical properties of La_(1/3)NbO_3 and La_(1/3)TaO_3 thin films prepared by chemical solution deposition

In this work, properties of perovskite lanthanum niobate La1/3NbO3(LN) and tantalate La1/3TaO3(LT)transparent thin films(200 nm thickness) prepared by chemical solution deposition on Pt/SiO2/Si substrates were described. The precursors and films were analyzed using FTIR and XPS spectra, XRD and SEM imaging. The both films after annealing at 1100 ℃ contained perovskite phase with a small fraction of pyrochlore LaNb5O14(in LN). The heterogeneous micro structure of LN film was composed from spherical or needle-like particles and homogeneous LT film that resulted in significant changes of their mechanical properties. The elastic modulus and hardness of these films were characterized for the first time by conventional and continuous stiffness(CSM) nanoindentation. The LT film modulus(E) and hardness(H) were higher(105.7 and 5.3 GPa) than LN(91.5 and 3.8 GPa). The effect of microstructure on mechanical properties is significant. In addition, the average Derjaguin-Muller-Toporov(DMT)-based elastic modulus of LN film surface were estimated50 GPa using AFM PeakForce QNM elastic mapping. The findings presented here can contribute to the fabrication of LN and LT films for the application to electrolytic thin film devices.

In the last few years the numerical methods for solving the fractional differential equations started to be applied intensively to real world phenomena. Having these things in mind in this manuscript we focus on the fractional Lagrangian and Harniltonian of the complex Bateman-Feshbach Tikochinsky oscillator. The numerical analysis of the corresponding fractionaJ Euler-Lagrange equations is given within the Griinwald-Letnikov approach, which is power series expansion of the generating function.

Basic theorem as representation of heterogeneous concept lattices

We propose a method for representing heteroge- neous concept lattices as classical concept lattices. Particu- larly, we describe a transformation of heterogeneous formal context into a binary one, such that corresponding concept lattices will be isomorphic. We prove the correctness of this transformation by the basic theorem for heterogeneous as well as classical concept lattices.

Is there evidence for statins in the treatment of aortic valve stenosis?

Research revealed that the pathogenesis of aortic stenosis(AS) not merely comprises of a mechanical wear and tear process yet that active biological processes, similar to those of coronary artery disease are involved, a promising role for statins in disease-modifying therapy was suggested. However, recently, many prospective studies could not observe decreased progression nor regression of the disease. Here, we review the current knowledge on the pathomechanisms of AS and its similarities and differences with atherosclerosis. Moreover, we discuss whether there is still a place for statins in the treatment of particular AS patient subgroups.

BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) has become one of the leading causes of liver disease in the western world. In obese patients weight reduction is recommended. Up to now there are no specific guidelines for weight loss in order to reduce hepatic fat *** To investigate the effects of a 24-wk guided lifestyle intervention program compared to a meal replacement regimen based on soy *** Twenty-six subjects with NASH participated in a randomized single-center study. They were randomly assigned to either meal replacement group(MR-G)with soy-yogurt-honey preparation or to guided lifestyle change group(LC-G)with endurance activity and nutrition counselling. Serum alanine transaminase(ALT), aspartate transaminase(AST), lipid parameters, and adipokines were measured. Liver fat content and lipid composition were determined by magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Body fat mass and lean body mass were assessed using Bod Pod? device. Pre-and post-intervention monitoring of parameters was performed. Statistical analyses were conducted with SPSS software, results were expressed as median(interquartile range).RESULTS Twenty-two subjects(MR-G, n = 11 and LC-G, n = 11) completed the study(9 women, 13 men; age 52.1(15.0) years, body mass index(BMI) 32.3(3.3) kg/m^2).In both groups a significant weight loss was achieved(MR-G:-6.4(3.6) kg, P <0.01; LC-G:-9.1(10.4) kg, P < 0.01). BMI dropped in both groups(MR-G:-2.3(1.5)kg/m^2, P = 0.003; LC-G:-3.0(3.4) kg/m^2, P = 0.006). Internal fat and hepatic lipid content were markedly reduced in both groups in comparable amount. There was a strong correlation between reduction in liver fat and decrease in ***, both groups showed an improvement in glycemic control and lipid profile. Composites containing biological materials with nanostructured architecture have become of great interest in modem materials science, yielding both interesting chemical properties and inspiration for biomimetic research. Herein, we describe the preparation of a novel three-dimensional （3D） nanostructured MnO2-based com- posite developed using a carbonized proteinaceous spongin template by an extreme biomimetics approach. The thermal stability of the spongin-based scaffold fadlitated the formation of both carbonized material （at 650 ℃ with exclusion of oxygen） and manganese oxide with a defined nanoscale structure under 150 ℃. Remarkably, the unique network of spongin fibers was maintained after pyrolysis and hydro^ermal processing, yielding a novel porous support. The MnO2-spongin composite shows a bimodal pore distribution, with macropores originating from the spongin network and mesopores from the nanostructured oxidic coating. Interestingl3~ the composites also showed improved electrochemical properties compared to those of Mno2. Voltammetry cycling demonstrated the good stability of the material over more than 3,000 charging/discharging cydes. Additionally, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed lower charge transfer resistance in the prepared materials. We demonstrate the potential of extreme biomimetics for developing a new generation of nanostructred materials with 3D centimeter-scale architecture for the storage and conversion of energy generated from renewable natural sources.
