This review compiles information on PCDD/F-and PCB-contaminated eggs from 20 years of global egg monitoring around emission sources in four continents conducted by the International Pollutants Elimination Network(IPEN)and Arnika as well as a compilation of data from scientific *** monitored 127 pooled egg samples including samples from 113 chicken flocks at potential PCDD/F-and PCB-contaminated sites around priority sources listed in the Stockholm Convention(*** incinerators,metal industries,cement plants,and open burning).99(88%)of pooled egg samples were above the EU maximum limits for PCDD/Fs(2.5 pg PCDD/F-TEQ/g fat)or the sum of PCDD/Fs and dioxinlike PCBs(5 pg PCDD/F-PCB-TEQ/g fat).Children consuming such eggs exceed the tolerable weekly intake(TWI).This demonstrates that close to 90%of these areas were not safe for the production of free-range *** out of the 113 egg samples(14%)were contaminated above 50 pg TEQ/g fat and exceeded the EU maximum limit more than 10 *** the 26 pooled egg samples around incinerators 24(92%)exceeded the limit with a mean of 43.1 pg TEQ/g fat(2.6e234 pg TEQ/g).All 21 egg samples around metal industries(4.4e112.6 pg TEQ/g fat)were above limits with mean concentration of 26.0 pg TEQ/g *** all 7 egg samples measured at e-waste recycling sites were above limits(mean 308 pg TEQ/g fat).In 58(51%)pooled egg samples the PCB-TEQ was above 5 pg TEQ/g fat exceeding the EU maximum limit with dioxin-like PCBs *** highlights the role of commercial PCBs for global contamination with dioxin-like *** was discovered that around metal industries,shredder plants,open burning sites of e-waste and dump sites,a high share of contamination was caused by *** clearly shows severe PCB release from the end-of-life management of PCB-containing equipment in developing *** highly contaminated eggs were found at many sites where plastic was *** highest contaminated egg sample ev

A STUDY ON OLIGURIC STANDARD IN THE ELDERLY

The results showed that the maximal renal concentration function both in the elderly males and females was 887 ± 91 mmol / L and 888 ± 127 mmol / L respectively. The renal excretion of waste products in 24 hours both in the elderly males and females was 815+170 mmol / d and 620+132 mmol / d respectively. On the basis of point estimation the minimal essential urine volume per day in the elderly males and females was 926 ml / d and 708 ml / d respectively if the daily urine volume of the elderly is less than this level then the metabolic products generated per day can not be excreted by the kidney and it would result in disorders of internal environment. Therefore the oliguric standard in elderly males and females must be less than 926 ml / d and 708 ml per day respectively.

Introduction: Online gambling is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. With its well-crafted visual and audio marketing, it is attracting more and more young people in Africa, where problems linked to employment and poverty are undermining youth. The consequences of gaming-related practices for health in general, and mental health in particular, are not negligible. The aim of this study was to measure the extent of the phenomenon within an urban community in Benin. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study with analytical aim conducted in the general population of Parakou, northern Benin, from December 2021 to November 2022. A self-administered questionnaire incorporating DSM 5 criteria for pathological gambling was used to collect data. Results: A total of 576 subjects divided into 30 clusters of 19 to 20 individuals consented to participate in the study. The proportion of gamblers was 30.56%. The prevalence of pathological gambling calculated according to DSM 5 criteria was 24.65% [21.31% - 28.33%] in the general population. The prevalence of severe pathological gambling was estimated at 8.16% [5.96% - 10.44%] in the general population. The prevalence of anxiety was 28.30% ([24.62% - 31.98%]), compared with 15.10% ([12.18% - 18.02%]) for depression. Factors with a significant association with pathological gambling were: age, access to online gambling, access to video games, exposure to gambling advertisement, having gambling friends, debt accumulation. A statistically significant link was also found between pathological gambling and anxiety/depression. Conclusion: The reality of pathological gambling in northern Benin calls for effective preventive action among vulnerable groups at national level, involving various actors at different levels.

Introduction: Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) is a mental disorder characterized by an obsessive focus on a perceived defect in appearance. This disorder can be dangerous or life-threatening. Hence, there is the need for special attention. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) and to identify the factors associated with it. Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study that took place from December 2020 to October 2021, with a census of all medical students enrolled at the University of Parakou for the 2020-2021 academic year and who volunteered to participate. DSM 5 diagnostic criteria were used to assess BDD, and the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale Modified for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD-YBOCS) was used to assess its severity. Results: A total of 669 people were included in the study. The prevalence of probable cases of BDD was 10.31%. Gender (female) (OR = 2.49;IC 95%: [1.45 - 4.26];p < 0.001), trauma with cosmetic sequelae (OR = 2.95;IC 95%: [1.27 - 6.91];p = 0.012), depressive disorders (OR = 2.4;IC 95%: [1.12 - 5.15];p = 0.025), mockery/teasing or negative comments about physique (OR = 3.54;IC 95%: [2.06 - 6.12];p < 0.001), a succession of sentimental disappointments (OR = 2.89;IC 95%: [1.33 - 6.30];p = 0.008), and the importance attached to physical appearance (OR = 0.5;IC 95%: [0.31 - 0.82];p = 0.005) are associated with BDD. Its consequences are serious, with an altered quality of life that can lead to dropping out of school and suicidal ideation or behavior. Conclusion: Although little studied and little diagnosed, Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD) is a reality in the student environment of northern Benin. Further studies are needed to more define BDD in the Beninese socio-cultural context.

As a widespread emerging contaminant, chloramphenicol(CAP) adversely impacts ecological communities in the water environment. Biological treatment is widely used for aquatic pollutant removal, and the performance of functional microbes determines its outcome. Herein, a consortium with a powerful CAPdegrading capacity was domesticated from activated sludge. As the common degradation products of CAP, 4-nitrobenzoic acid(PNB) and 2,2-dichloroacetic acid(DCA) were also used as the sole substrates for long-term domestication. The successional pattern of the microbial community and critical functional genes through the 2.5-year domestication was revealed by metagenomic analysis. Sphingomonas,Caballeronia, and Cupriavidus became the most dominant populations in the CAP-, PNB-, and DCAdegrading consortia, respectively, and they were crucial degraders of PNB and DCA. Their collaboration contributed to the high mineralization rate of CAP. PNB was transformed into protocatechuic acid(PCA) and then mineralized through meta-cleavage and ortho-cleavage pathways. Crucial functional genes involved in CAP, PNB, and DCA metabolism, including CAP acetyltransferase, CAP oxidoreductase,haloacid dehalogenases, and protocatechuate dioxygenases, were significantly enriched in consortia. p H and carbon source had significant impacts on CAP biodegradation efficiency. The domesticated consortia and isolated strains are necessary microbial resources to enhance the bioremediation of CAP-, PNB-, or DCA-polluted environments.

Introduction: The development of digital technology over the last few decades has facilitated access to websites and videos in the field of sexuality, eliminating many of the boundaries that were restrictive for some and protective for others. While this evolution has favored better information sharing, it has also precipitated the emergence of an entirely new phenomenon: cybersexuality. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate addiction to cybersexuality in schools in the city of Parakou in 2023. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in general, technical and vocational secondary schools in Parakou, northern Benin, from December 2022 to September 2023. A self-administered questionnaire integrating the “short Internet sex Addiction Test” (s-IATsex) scale was used to assess cybersexuality. Results: A total of 482 students participated in the study. The prevalence of problematic use of cybersexuality in Parakou schools was 11.4% according to the s-IATsex (Short Internet sex Addiction Test) scale. The average age of the students was 16.99 ± 2.16 years, with extremes of 11 and 30 years. The majority were in secondary school (67.8%). Factors associated with addiction to cybersexuality were: place of residence (OR = 0.164;p = 0.017), external genitalia discharge (OR = 5.37;p = 0.049), sexual partner (OR = 2.53;p = 0.010), access to pornographic sites (OR = 7.96;p < 0.001), anxiety (OR = 3.86;p = 0.001) and depression (OR = 2.75;p = 0.018). Conclusion: Approximately one pupil in 10 is addicted to cybersexuality at school in the town of Parakou/Parakou city, Benin. The multiple consequences of this addiction call for effective preventive actions aimed at vulnerable groups of pupils.

Food systems have the potential to promote human health and enhance environmental sustainability;yet most African countries have decadal starvation and malnourishment due to unstable food systems lacking basic nutritional profiles. To understand the key questions of the African food production and food security crisis, it is important to evaluate the past and the present balance of food production and consumption quantitatively and comprehensively and identify resource constraints. This continental study analyzed water-land-food (WLF) nexus in recent decades (1997-2017) and accessed whether these resources cope with different population growth projections, dietary changes and agricultural water management. The findings revealed that in 2017, total production in Africa for the four major crops was 83.3, 34.1, 21.0 and 26.7 million tons for, respectively, maize, rice, sorghum and wheat. Together with the imported food, 38 countries experienced an increase in kcal by food supply, while 7 countries encountered a decrease. However, only 6 countries were above the 1500 kcal∙capita−1∙day−1—the global average food consumption from the four major crops. The study also found that in the context of food production and out of the total African population, 268 million (21.6%) have enough land and water, 310 million (25.0%) is without enough land and water, further 279 million (22.5%) have enough water but not enough land, and 381 million (30.8%) encounter enough land but not enough water. This is the first WLF nexus study for the African continent and emphasizes the need for efficient and rapid changes in the food systems of the African population, both in production and consumption, in order to provide sustainable and secure food systems, and ultimately approach the first three Sustainable Development Goals.

Tire waste is discharged at 3 or 4 million wheels per year in Japan. Tire waste is mainly treated as an auxiliary fuel in some cement kilns. However, significant amounts of tire waste is illegally discharged in dumping sites, and causing an environmental pollution. In order to find a practical recycling method of this tire waste, a carbonization technique was investigated. Tire waste was heated at 300 degrees for 3 h. The tire was completely decomposed to gas, oil, charcoal and steel iron. The generated gas was separated in an oil separator, and incinerated as supplementary fuel. Generated oil was also separated in an oil separator and collected. The quality of the oil corresponded to kerosene or light oil can be used as a fuel.

我国有机废物产量巨大,年产畜禽粪污38亿吨、生活垃圾2亿吨、市政污泥7,000万吨,堆肥是有机废物资源化利用和消纳的重要手段.然而,我国有机废物重金属含量高,如畜禽粪便中含有源自饲料中添加的Cu、Zn、As等重金属,市政污泥混有工业废水排放的Cr、生活垃圾含有电池、荧光灯等释放的Pb和Hg.堆肥过程有机物降解产生的"浓缩效应"进一步提升了重金属浓度,加剧了产品重金属环境污染隐患,限制了堆肥产品的土地使用和推广,导致大量的有机废物不能资源化利用无处消纳.
