The present study aims to give general hints about hydrodynamic interactions for water wave diffraction on a super large floating structure composed of a large number of box-shaped modules with many small gaps in between. And meanwhile, it also aims to seek for an effective way to take the gap influence into consideration without numerical difficulties existing in conventional methods. An asymptotic matching technique is exploited by virtue of the smallness of gaps. Formal potential solutions are established for the near field around the gap ends and the far field away from gap ends, respectively, and the unknowns in those solutions are uniquely determined by asymptotic matching. The eigen-function expansion method is used for the outer far field and a series of pulsating sources at each gap end is introduced to simulate the gap influence. Strong hydrodynamic interaction is observed and a new resonant phenomenon, the mechanism of which differs absolutely from any known ones, is revealed in the present study. Sharp peak responses for both vertical and horizontal wave-exciting forces on each block are found around some special resonance frequencies, which depend on the draft of the structure and the gap width. The present results are of practical significance to the design of links (connectors) of modules for super large floating structures. And the importance is also closely related to the hydro-elasticity analysis for super large floating structures, in which local loads may be as important as the integrated loads.

This paper describes an experimental study of heat transfers in the smooth-walled and rib-roughened helical pipes with reference to the design of enhanced cooling passages in the cylinder head and liner of a marine propulsive diesel engine. The manner in which the repeated ribs modify the forced heat convection in the helical pipe is considered for the case where the flow is turbulent upon entering the coil but laminar in further downstream. A selection of experimental results illustrates the individual and interactive effects of Dean vortices and rib-flows on heat transfer along the inner and outer helixes of coils. The experimental-based observations reveal that the centrifugal force modifies the heat transfer in a manner to generate circumferential heat transfer variation with better cooling performance on the outer edge relative to its inner counterpart even with the agitated flow field caused by the repeated ribs. Evaluation of the sound-structure interaction is important for effective control of noise and vibration in structural acoustic *** elastic structure-sound interaction problems are studied by employing the hybrid fractal FEM and *** degrees of freedom of the system can be reduced greatly through adopting fractal FEM in discretizing the cracked elastic structure;while the exterior acoustic field is calculated by BEM,which automatically satisfies Sommerfeld's radiation *** examples are given and show that the resonant frequencies of the structure-acoustic coupled system decrease as the depth of the crack increases,and that the crack has a significant effect on the acoustical field in the vicinity of the crack tip.

A pressing challenge for China is determining where to accommodate millions of migrant workers displaced by the closing of many export-oriented factories. The current global financial crisis＂ has exposed the fragility of the export-led growth strategy China has adopted over the past 30years. Is there a better alternative for providing non-agricultural jobs than the sweatshops of cheap export production？ In the present paper, international experience is reviewed to shed light on China＇s situation. Using pooled regression models, we analyze data from the World Bank for 209 economies. We investigate the experience of other economies to answer the following questions： What is the common process of expanding the nonagricultural economy？ How is that process affected by the level of the real exchange rate？ Is export production a common way of absorbing surplus rural labor？ Finally, what are the ways that domestic demand and service employment can be expanded？

Over the past three decades, we have seen a dramatic increase in the incidence oftemporary trade barriers such as antidumping duties and countervailing duties. Chinahas been at the receiving end of a large number of such measures. In this paper, we studyhow China＇s exports to its major trade partners have been affected when its major tradepartners have used these measures either against China or against other countries. Wefind that Chinese exports to the country that imposed an antidumping duty decreased byapproximately 35 percent. At the same time, an antidumping duty used by the importingcountry that was directed towards other countries but not against China led to anapproximate 30-percent increase in China＇s exports to the policy-imposing *** results remain robust across various specifications. Our findings have importantpolicy implications. In particular, the magnitude of these effects highlights why it isimportant to curb the recent widespread use of these barriers.

The capability of embedded piezoelectric wafer active sensors(PWAS)to perform in-situ nondestructive evaluation(NDE)for structural health monitoring(SHM)of reinforced concrete(RC)structures strengthened with fiber reinforced polymer(FRP)composite overlays is ***,the disbond detection method were developed on coupon specimens consisting of concrete blocks covered with an FRP composite *** was found that the presence of a disbond crack drastically changes the electromecfianical(E/M)impedance spectrum lneasurcd at the PWAS *** spectral changes depend on the distance between the PWAS and the crack ***,large scale experiments were conducted on a RC beam strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP)composite *** beam was subject to an accelerated fatigue load regime in a three-point bending configuration up to a total of 807,415 *** these fatigue tests,the CFRP overlay experienced disbonding beginning at about 500,000 *** PWAS were able to detect the disbonding before it could be reliably seen by visual *** correlation between the PWAS readings and the position and extent of disbond damage was *** preliminary results demonstrate the potential of PWAS technology for SHM of RC structures strengthened with FRP composite overlays.
