Livelihood status of small-scale fishermen and determinants of their income: Insights from north-eastern floodplains of Bangladesh

The small-scale fishermen in the north-eastern floodplains are one of the most vulnerable communities of Bangladesh due to their limited *** study assessed their livelihood status using a sustainable livelihood framework and employed a multiple regression model to evaluate factors influencing their *** data were collected from fishermen’s households in Tanguar Haor and Hakaluki Haor through direct *** revealed that these households lacked human capital,had poor sanitation facilities and suffered from frequent *** income is very limited as they lack training on other socioeconomic activities to comple-ment their livelihood grounded on ***,their financial capital was very deficient and ranked lowest among other livelihood ***’s major physical assets were the boats used for group and individual *** small-scale fishermen had limited involvement with local administration,and around half of them were members of various *** of these households had low participation in fishing or other income *** income of the fishermen was influenced by their age,fish catch per day,training and NGO *** increase the earnings and improve the livelihood status of small-scale fishers in the floodplain,this study suggests providing training on complementary income generating activities,improving sanitation facilities and providing additional government and non-government support.

The effect of public health awareness and behaviors on the transmission dynamics of syphilis in Northwest China, 2006-2018, based on a multiple-stages mathematical model

Syphilis,a sexually transmitted infectious disease caused by the bacterium treponema pallidum,has re-emerged as a global public health issue with an estimated 12 million people infected each *** the impacts of health awareness and behaviors on transmission dynamics of syphilis can help to establish optimal control strategy in different *** this paper,we develop a multiple-stage SIRS epidemic model taking into account the public health awareness and behaviors of ***,the basic reproduction number R_(0) is obtained,which determines the global dynamics behaviors of the *** derive the necessary conditions for implementing optimal control and the corresponding optimal solution for mitigation syphilis by using Pontryagin's Maximum *** on the data of syphilis in Ningxia from 2006 to 2018,the parameterizations and model calibration are carried *** fitting results are in good agreement with the ***,sensitivity analysis shows that the public awareness induced protective behaviors C_(e),compliance of condom-induced preventabilityεand treatment for the primary syphilis m1 play an important role in mitigating the risk of syphilis *** results can help us gain insights into the epidemiology of syphilis and provide guidance for the public health authorities to implement health education programs.

This study examines a novel relationship between volatility and dynamic herding behavior during COVID-19 by examining the relationship of oil market volatility,Global volatility and Infectious disease equity market volatility with time-varying herding behavior in energy stock of Developed *** country level data,this study observes that market switch between anti-herding to herding state during pandemic and all three volatility measures have significant impact on dynamic herding state under high dispersion ***,in low dispersion regime only global volatility has significant impact on time-varying herding *** study suggests that the level of speculation in energy sector affect investor behavior;therefore,policy makers should monitor and model possible signals related to health crisis that can be transformed in to financial market crisis.

This article outlines the composition and species characteristics of Chinese materia medica(CMM)resources identified in the fourth national survey of CMM *** survey was conducted based on field investigations and office collation,adhering to the“four principles”emphasizing the existence of survey records,voucher specimens,actual photographs,and evidence of medicinal use,to summarize the species ofCMMresources and ensure the scientific integrity and accuracy of the *** to the findings,China has 18,817 CMM resources,including 15,321 medicinal plants,826 medicinal fungi,2517 medicinal animals,and 153 medicinal ***,in the fourth national survey of CMM resources,3151 species of unique medicinal plants,464 species of rare and endangered medicinal plants,and 196 new species in China underwent specialized *** latest statistics are expected to provide themost up-to-date foundational data for the protection,management,development,and utilization of these CMMresources over an extended period,offering scientific guidance for the development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry.

Dynamic Changes,Regional Differences,and Influencing Factorsof CO_2 Emission Performance in China

This paper proposes to use DEA models with undesirable outputs to construct the Malmquist index that can be use to investigate the dynamic changes of CO 2 emission *** the index,the authors have measured the CO 2 emission performance of 28 provinces and autonomous regions in China from 1996 to 2007;with the convergence theory and panel data regression model,the authors analyze the regional differences and the influencing *** is found that the performance of CO 2 emissions in China has been continuously improved mainly due to the technological progress,and the average improvement rate is 3.25%,with a cumulative improvement rate of 40.86%.In addition,the CO 2 emission performance varies across four *** a whole,the performance score of eastern China is the *** northeastern and central China has relatively lower performance scores,and the western China is relatively *** regional differences are decreasing,and the performance of CO 2 emissions is *** influence of some factors on the performance of CO 2 emissions is significant,such as the level of economic development,the level of industrial structure,energy intensity,and ownership *** influence of some factors,such as opening-up to the outside world,on the performance of CO 2 emissions is not significant..

A combined forecasting method for intermittent demand using the automotive aftermarket data

Intermittent demand forecasting is an important challenge in the process of smart supply chain transformation,and accurate demand forecasting can reduce costs and increase efficiency for *** study proposes an intermittent demand combination forecasting method based on internal and external data,builds intermittent demand feature engineering from the perspective of machine learning,predicts the occurrence of demand by classification model,and predicts non-zero demand quantity by regression *** on the strategy selection on the inventory side and the stocking needs on the replenishment side,this study focuses on the optimization of the classification problem,incorporates the internal and external data of the enterprise,and proposes two combination forecasting optimization methods on the basis of the best classification threshold searching and transfer learning,*** on the real data of auto after-sales business,these methods are evaluated and validated in multiple *** with other intermittent forecasting methods,the models proposed in this study have been improved significantly in terms of classification accuracy and forecasting precision,which validates the potential of combined forecasting framework for intermittent demand and provides an empirical study of the framework in industry *** results show that this research can further provide accurate upstream inputs for smart inventory and guarantee intelligent supply chain decision-making in terms of accuracy and efficiency.

Objective:To investigate and analyze the prevalence and risk factors of infertility in a Mongolian ***:We conducted a population-based cross-sectional study between September 2016 and November *** study population of 1919 participants consisted of residents of Ulaanbaatar city and four regions of Mongolia.A pretested standardized and structured questionnaire was used to gather data from the *** questionnaire comprised categories influencing infertility,such as socioeconomic status,lifestyle factors,health,reproductive history,present status,and sexual *** addition,trained staff conducted face-to-face interviews with the ***:Our study showed an infertility incidence of 8.2%,with primary infertility at 2.76%and secondary infertility at 5.47%.Compared with the urban area of Ulaanbaatar,the prevalence of infertility was significantly higher amongst the rural population(P40 years,OR 2.1,95%CI 2.62-8.55),living rural region(aOR 2.4,95%CI 1.62-3.69),alcohol consumption(aOR 1.6,95%CI 1.11-2.44),chronic diseases(aOR 1.6,95%CI 1.20-2.38),reproductive disease(aOR 2.6,95%CI 1.86-3.88),gynecological operative history(aOR 2.1,95%CI 1.38-3.21),ovarian cyst(aOR 4.2,95%CI 2.70-6.40),gonorrhea(aOR 2.4,95%CI 1.01-6.16),non-malignant uterine cancer(aOR 2.9,95%CI 1.40-6.70),and endometriosis(aOR 4.7,95%CI 1.41-15.62).Conclusions:In Mongolia,the average infertility rate is 8.2%,similar to the average worldwide and is significantly higher in rural *** study shows the most significant risk factors for infertility are age,alcohol consumption,and rural *** addition,an unfavorable gynecological history and some diseases also pose a risk to fertility.

Bariatric surgery in old age:a comparative study of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy in an Asia centre of excellence

Bariatric surgery has been proved to be the safest and efficient procedure in treating morbid obese patients,but data is still lacking in the elderly *** aim of our study was to compare the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass（LRYGB） and sleeve gastrectomy（LSG） in patients aged more than 55 *** performed2 a retrospective review of a prospectively collected *** patients with body mass index（BMI） §32 kg/mand aged more than 55 years undergoing LRYGB or LSG in BMI Surgery Centre,E-Da Hospital between January 2008 and December 2011 with at least one year of follow up were included for the ***,peri-operative data,weight loss and surgical complications were all recorded and *** age and BMI of these 68 patients22（22 males and 46 female） were 58.8 years（55-79 years） and 39.5 kg/m（32.00-60.40 kg/m）.LRYGB was performed in 44 patients and LSG in 24 *** two groups were comparable in their preoperative BMI,American Society of Anaesthesia（ASA） score and gender *** patients were significantly older than patients receiving *** proportion of type 2 diabetes preoperatively was significantly higher in LRYGB patients as compared to LSG patients（88.63% vs.50%; P,0.01）.The prevalence of other co-morbidities was similar and comparable2 between the *** BMI in the LRYGB and LSG groups at the end of 1 year were 28.8 kg/mand228.2 kg/m,respectively,and there was no statistically significant difference in mean percentage of excess weight loss（%EWL） at 1 *** percentage of resolution of diabetes was significantly higher in LRYGB（69.2%） as compared to LSG（33.3%）.On the other hand,there was no statistical difference in the percentage of resolution of hypertension,hyperlipidemia and fatty liver *** overall morbidity and re-operation rate was higher in LRYGB *** morbidly elderly patients,both surgeries achieved good weight loss and resolution of *** is s

Limiting stand density and basal area projection models for even-aged Tecomella undulata plantations in a hot arid region of India

This paper presents equations for estimating limiting stand density for Z undulata plantations grown in hot desert areas of Raj asthan State in India. Five different stand level basal area projection models, belonging to the path invariant algebraic difference form of a non-linear growth function, were also tested and compared. These models can be used to predict future basal area as a function of stand variables like dominant height and stem number per hectare and are necessary for reviewing different silvicultural treatment options. data from 22 sample plots were used for modelling. An all possible growth intervals data structure was used. Both, qualitative and quantitative criteria were used to compare alternative models. The Akaike＇s information criteria differ- ence statistic was used to analyze the predictive ability of the models. Results show that the model proposed by Hui and Gadow performed best and hence this model is recommended for use in predicting basal area development in 12 undulata plantations in the study area. The data used were not from thinned stands, and hence the models may be less accurate when used for predictions when natural mortality is very significant.

Background:Tuberculosis(TB)often causes catastrophic economic effects on both the individual suffering the disease and their households.A number of studies have analyzed patient and household expenditure on TB care,but there does not appear to be any that have assessed the incidence,intensity and determinants of catastrophic health expenditure(CHE)relating to TB care in *** will be the objective of this ***:The data used for this study were derived from the baseline survey of the China Government–Gates Foundation TB Phase Ⅱ *** analysis included 747 TB *** health expenditure for TB care was estimated using two approaches,with households defined as experiencing CHE if their annual expenditure on TB care:(a)exceeded 10%of total household income;and(b)exceeded 40%of their non-food expenditure(capacity to pay).Chi-square tests were used to identify associated factors and logistic regression analysis to identify the determinants of ***:The incidence of CHE was 66.8%using the household income measure and 54.7%using non-food expenditure(capacity to pay).An inverse association was observed between CHE rates and household income *** determinants of CHE were:age,household size,employment status,health insurance status,patient income as a percentage of total household income,hospitalization and status as a minimum living security *** including gender,marital status and type of TB case had no significant associations with ***:Catastrophic health expenditure incidence from TB care is high in *** integrated policy expanding the free treatment package and ensuring universal coverage,especially the height of UHC for TB patients,is *** and social protection interventions are essential for identified at-risk groups.
