This article examines Block A,the first block-style building in Heybeliada Sanatorium in *** purpose of this research is to understand its architectural and spatial development and discuss how in fact it was a“prototype”of Turkish *** with a three-step methodology(documentation/evaluation/results)this research conducts architectural and spatial analysis on Block *** sources like architectural documentation and restitution drawings,the writings of the institution’s head doctor Tevfik Ismail Gökçe,periodicals on tuberculosis(TB),as well as pertinent literature are *** findings demonstrate that Block A’s development(1924—1945)was the result of knowledge transfer that introduced the universal sanatorium design principles,spatial experiments,adaptation to sociocultural norms,and trial-and-error *** only it had a major impact on shaping of the second block-type building in the complex,the“model”Block B,but it also became exemplary of the subsequent Turkish *** originality of this article is its exploration of the changing and evolving Block A in its resonation with the cultural tensions of Turkey’s modernization *** was established via the assessment of budgetary issues,medical developments and climatic experiments,the social issue of scarcity of TB beds in the country,spatial practices to separate the sexes as reflections of local traditions and culture in the shaping of spaces.

This study explores the role of Bedouins in preserving Palestinian land through their own means of community resilience through the concept of“Art of being”and its entailed“Arts of presence and persistence”.This is examined through the correlation between Bedouin lifestyle and the spatial distribution of structures within“Al-Kurshan”Bedouin clan in Area C in the West *** on a mixed qualitative and spatial methodologies,information was gathered through semi-structured interviews with Al-Kurshan Bedouins and employees of organizations supporting Bedouins,on-site observation,and analyses of maps and photos,in addition to drawings and *** spatial distribution of Bedouin built structures is analyzed in relation to landscape and climate,social aspects within the families,and available service and sectorial *** analyses give insight on how Bedouins struggle against adopting other *** study shows that the Bedouins are slowly forced to negotiate their semi-nomadic lifestyle,but resist giving up their right to exist against the threat of forced *** maintain their“Art of being”which partly represents their own way of safeguarding Palestinian lands from *** study contributes to the wider discussion of spatial dynamics of Bedouins and their community resilience within the Palestinian geopolitical context.

Urban heritage is a vital resource that connects communities to their local *** developments and rapid urbanisation often harm the authenticity of historic areas,disrupting the cultural fabric and altering their *** study introduces the Relative Positive Impact Index(RPll),a novel technique for assessing the socio-cultural impacts of urban *** significance of RPII lies in its ability to quantitatively evaluate the impacts on the cultural fabric and integrity of historic urban areas,which is crucial for sustainable urban *** study's objective is to apply RPII in evaluating qualitative socio-cultural characteristics in historic urban areas,with a focus on four main criteria and 16 sub-criteria,in the case of the Kuttichira *** methodology integrates the analysis of published literature,a quantitative survey mapping the stakeholders'perception,and qualitative *** approach facilitates an in-depth understanding of how urban revitalisation affects local socio-cultural dynamics,preserving the authenticity and character of historic *** study reveals that the revitalisation project in Kuttichira positively impacts the socio-cultural fabric of the area,maintaining cultural integrity and addressing social *** findings offer valuable insights for sustainable urban development and policymaking in historic *** study recommends the application of RPll in other urban precincts for comparative analysis and further development of urban development practices,contributing to informed urban policy and planning decisions.

An integrated computational method for calculating dynamic thermal bridges of building facades in tropical countries

Identifying thermal bridges on building façades has been a great challenge for architects,especially during the conceptual design *** is not only due to the complexity of parameters when calculating thermal bridges,but also lack of feature integration between building energy simulation(BES)tools and the actual building *** example,existing BES tools predominantly calculate thermal bridges only in steady state without considering the temperature dynamic behaviour of building ***,relevant features such as thermal delay,decrement factor,and operative temperature are often neglected,and this can lead to miscalculation of energy *** study then proposes an integrated method to calculate dynamic thermal bridges under transient conditions by incorporating field observations and computational simulations of thermal *** specifically,the proposed method employs several measurement tools such as HOBO data logger to record the actual conditions of indoor and outdoor room temperature and thermal cameras to identify the surface temperature of selected building *** actual datasets are then integrated with the simulation workflow developed in BES *** study ultimately enables architects not only to identify potential thermal bridges on existing building façades but also to support material and geometric exploration in early design phase.

Urban agglomeration is a serious concern due to its high energy usage and impact on the local *** countries strive to determine the development path to optimize energy *** present study aims to examine the local climatic zones(LCZs)performance in warm and humid climate through a multi-objective approach for the residential *** performance is assessed by evaluating the urban microclimate and cooling load consumption for both summer and winter months using binomial logistic *** study concludes that LCZ 2_(3)(compact mid-rise with open low-rise)and LCZ 6_(B)(open low-rise with scattered trees)perform better for 80%and 50%of total hours in warm and humid *** also proves the presence of significant performance differences between mid-rise and low-rise *** intra-zonal differences between the climatic variables are higher than the inter-zonal differences due to the impact of land surface temperature(LST).The high aspect ratio and low sky view factor of LCZ 2_(3) help the residents in that morphology in enhancing better thermal comfort and reducing cooling load *** present study contributes to building regulation policymakers by providing information on the suitable morphology for warm and humid climate.

The experimental results in previous studies have indicated that during the ductile fracture of pure metals,vacancies aggregate and form voids at grain ***,the physical mechanism underlying this phenomenon remains not fully *** study derives the equilibrium distribution of vacancies analytically by following thermodynamics and the micromechanics of crystal *** derivation suggests that vacancies cluster in regions under hydrostatic compression to minimize the elastic strain ***,a finite element model is developed for examining more general scenarios of interaction between vacancies and grain *** model is first verified and validated through comparison with some available analytical solutions,demonstrating consistency between finite element simulation results and analytical solutions within a specified numerical accuracy.A systematic numerical study is then conducted to investigate the mechanism that might govern the micromechanical interaction between grain boundaries and the profuse vacancies typically generated during plastic *** simulation results indicate that the reduction in total elastic strain energy can indeed drive vacancies toward grain boundaries,potentially facilitating void nucleation in ductile fracture.

The performance of a water jet propulsion system is related to the inlet duct,rotor,stator,and ***,the flow inlet design must fit the bottom line of the hull,and the design of the inlet duct is often limited by stern *** entire section,from the rotor to the nozzle through the stator,must be designed based on system integration in that the individual performance of these three components will influence each ***,the section from the rotor to the nozzle significantly impacts the performance of a water jet propulsion *** study focused on nozzle design and established referable analysis results to facilitate subsequent integrated studies on the design parameters regarding nozzle *** existing studies concentrate on discussions on rotor design and the tip leakage flow of rotors or have replaced the existing complex computational domain with a simple flow ***,research has yet to implement an integrated,optimal design of the section from the rotor to the *** the above,our program conducted preliminary research on this system integration design issue,discussed the optimal nozzle for this section in-depth,and proposed design suggestions based on the *** program used an existing model as the design *** study referred to the actual trial data as the design conditions for the proposed *** prior references’simple flow field form,this study added a jet ski geometry and free surface to the computational *** the linear hull shape was considered,the inflow in the inlet duct would be closer to the actual *** on the numerical calculation result,this study recommends that the optimal nozzle outlet area should be 37%of the inlet area and that the nozzle contour should be ***,for the pump head,static pressure had a more significant impact than dynamic pressure.

In analyzing the complex interaction between the wellbore and the reservoir formation,the hydromechanical properties of the region proximal to the wellbore,referred to as the“wellbore skin zone”,play a pivotal role in determining flow dynamics and the resulting formation *** models of the wellbore skin zone generally assume a constant permeability throughout,resulting in a sharp permeability discontinuity at the skin-reservoir *** paper introduces a model for a wellbore with a continuously graded skin zone of finite thickness within a poroelastic *** solutions are derived using the Laplace transform method,addressing both positive and negative skin *** results are presented to illustrate the effects of graded permeability/skin zone thickness on pore pressures and stresses around a *** results highlight a distinct divergence in stress and pore pressure fields when comparing wellbores with negative skin zones to those with positive skin zones or no skin at all.

Reinforced concrete(RC)flat slabs,a popular choice in construction due to their flexibility,are susceptible to sudden and brittle punching shear *** design methods often exhibit significant bias and *** estimation of punching shear strength in RC flat slabs is crucial for effective concrete structure design and *** study introduces a novel computation method,the jellyfish-least square support vector machine(JS-LSSVR)hybrid model,to predict punching shear *** combining machine learning(LSSVR)with jellyfish swarm(JS)intelligence,this hybrid model ensures precise and reliable *** model’s development utilizes a real-world experimental data *** with seven established optimizers,including artificial bee colony(ABC),differential evolution(DE),genetic algorithm(GA),and others,as well as existing machine learning(ML)-based models and design codes,validates the superiority of the JS-LSSVR hybrid *** innovative approach significantly enhances prediction accuracy,providing valuable support for civil engineers in estimating RC flat slab punching shear strength.
