Recent development in electrode design for wide-temperature supercapacitors

An ever-increasing market demand has stimulated the soaring enthusiasm of researchers to develop wide-temperature supercapacitors(SCs). The active electrode is one of the most important parts of SC, which is directly related to the energy density,power transmission and long-term cyclability of the device in the wide-temperature environment. compared with the SC electrodes aimed for room-temperature application, the SC electrodes for operating at wide-temperature scene often face greater challenges. In this review, the main challenges of SC electrodes under various temperature conditions, including low, high and cross-fade temperatures, are summarized. The relevant performance decay and failure mechanisms of wide-temperature SC electrodes are analyzed. In addition, this review deals with the recent studies and developments in robust wide-temperature SC electrodes with respect to the rational design of electrode structures and the exploitation of advanced active materials. Finally, the future directions for exploring reliable wide-temperature SCs are also proposed.

Lateral shear performance of sheathed post-and-beam wooden structures with small panels

Sheathed post-and-beam wooden structures are distinct from light-wood *** allow for using sheathing panels that are smaller(0.91 m×1.82 m)than standard-sized panels(1.22 m×2.44 m or 2.44 m×2.44 m).Evidence indicates that nail spacing and panel thickness determine the lateral capacity of the wood frame shear *** verify the lateral shear performance of wood frame shear walls with smaller panels,we subjected 13 shear walls,measuring 0.91 m in width and 2.925 m in height,to a low-cycle cyclic loading test with three kinds of nail spacing and three panel thicknesses.A nonlinear numerical simulation analysis of the wall was conducted using ABAQUS finite element(FE)software,where a custom nonlinear spring element was used to simulate the sheathing-frame *** results indicate that the hysteretic performance of the walls was mainly determined by the hysteretic performance of the sheathing-frame *** same nail specifications were adopted,the stiffness and bearing capacity of the walls were inversely related to the nail spacing and directly related to the panel *** shear wall remained in the elastic stage when the drift was 1/250 rad and ductility coefficients were all greater than 2.5,which satisfied the deformation requirements of residential *** on the test and FE analysis results,the shear strength of the post-and-beam wooden structures with sheathed walls was determined.

research on Two Types of Buffer Zone Impact on Surrounding Office Space Environment in Winter in cold Climate Zone—a Fieldwork in architectural design institute Building of tsinghua university,Beijing

Building buffer zone space is not only one of essential approaches for better mental quality of interior building space, but also an important factor that may influence interior thermal comfort and energy consumption. This study aims to analyze regulative advantages of buffer zone to the surrounding functional spaces. Based on a fieldwork test in a typical office building in cold climate zone in Beijing,China,the monitor data show interior physical performance in the Winter. The research selects two types of different buffer zones in the same building. One is a south-faced greenhouse which has large dimension with plenty of vegetation,and the other is a simple atrium in the middle of five floor building with mount of skylights. The factors and their influence to surrounding functional spaces and the whole building are found out from the comparisons of collected data by floor to floor monitor test on both buffer zones at the same time. The comparisons of two types of buffer zones conclude that the greenhouse is more effective to air quality regulation but not so clearly wellperformed to thermal buffering as expected due to the dominate active central heating in the Winter. This fieldwork test results for building performance can be helpful for both architects and engineers in the early phase of sustainable design.

A critical challenge hindering the practical application of lithium–oxygen batteries(LOBs)is the inevitable problems associated with liquid electrolytes,such as evaporation and safety *** study addresses these problems by proposing a modified polyrotaxane(mPR)-based solid polymer electrolyte(SPE)design that simultaneously mitigates solvent-related problems and improves ***-SPE exhibits high ion conductivity(2.8×10^(−3)S cm^(−1)at 25℃)through aligned ion conduction pathways and provides electrode protection ability through hydrophobic chain *** this mPR-SPE into solid-state LOBs resulted in stable potentials over 300 *** situ Raman spectroscopy reveals the presence of an LiO_(2)intermediate alongside Li_(2)O_(2)during oxygen *** situ X-ray diffraction confirm the ability of the SPE to hinder the permeation of oxygen and moisture,as demonstrated by the air permeability *** present study suggests that maintaining a low residual solvent while achieving high ionic conductivity is crucial for restricting the sub-reactions of solid-state LOBs.

Experimental Study on Seismic Performance of Tall Building with Steel Transfer Trusses Located at a Higher Level

Based on a shaking table experiment of 1 :25 scale frame-shearwall structure model with steel transfer trusses,the dynamic characteristics,seismic responses in elastic and elastic-plastic phases with de- structive forms of the structure were *** was observed that cracks were developed with earthquake wave acceleration increasing,but no severe crack was developed in the structure during the *** the seismic responses caused by artificial wave,site wave and E1 Centro wave,that caused by the artificial wave is the most intense *** angle between steel transfer trusses is large,which means the transfer stories might be ***,the seismic performance of the steel transfer trusses is good and the overall structure can satisfy seismic fortification requirements in the region of intensity 6.

Numerical investigation of impinging jet ventilation in ICUs:Is thermal stratification a problem?

Intensive care units(ICUs)are the high incidence sites of hospital-acquired infections,where impinging jet ventilation(IJV)shows great *** stratification of IJV and its effect on contaminants distribution were systematically investigated in this *** changing the setting of heat source or the air change rates,the main driving force of supply airflow can be transformed between thermal buoyancy and inertial force,which can be quantitatively described by the dimensionless buoyant jet length scale(l_(m)^(-)).For the investigated air change rates,namely 2 ACH to 12 ACH,l_(m)^(-)varies between 0.20 and *** thermal buoyancy plays a dominant role in the movement of the horizontally exhaled airflow by the infector under low air change rate,where the temperature gradient is up to 2.45℃/*** flow center remains close to the breathing zone of the susceptible ahead,resulting into the highest exposure risk(6.6‰for 10-μm particles).With higher heat flux of four PC monitors(from 0 W to 125.85 W for each monitor),the temperature gradient in ICU rises from 0.22℃/m to 1.02℃/m;however,the average normalized concentration of gaseous contaminants in the occupied zone is reduced from 0.81 to 0.37,because their thermal plumes are also able to carry containments around them to the ceiling-level *** the air change rate was increased to 8 ACH(l_(m)^(-)=1.56),high momentum weakened the thermal stratification by reducing the temperature gradient to 0.37℃/m and exhaled flow readily rose above the breathing zone;the intake fraction of susceptible patient located in front of the infector for 10-μm particles reduces to 0.8‰.This study proved the potential application of IJV in ICUs and provides theoretical guidance for its appropriate design.

Distributed TLDs in RC floors and their vibration reduction efficiency

A novel distributed tuned liquid damper （DTLD） for reducing vibration in structures is proposed in this paper. The basic working principle of the DTLDs is to fill the empty space inside the pipes or boxes of cast-in-situ hollow reinforced concrete （RC） floor slabs with water or other liquid. The pipes or boxes then work as a series of small TLDs inside the structure, to increase the damping ratio of the entire structural system. Numerical simulation that accounts for the fluid- structure conpling effect is carried out to evaluate the vibration-reduction efficiency of the DTLDs. The results show that the DTLDs are able to considerably increase the damping of the structure and thus reduce its vibration. An additional benefit is that the DTLDs do not require architectural space to be added to the structure.

Numerical and experimental evaluation on methods for parameter identification of thermal response tests

Several parameter identification methods of thermal response test were evaluated through numerical and experimental study.A three-dimensional finite-volume numerical model was established under the assumption that the soil thermal conductivity had been known in the simulation of thermal response *** thermal response curve was firstly obtained through numerical ***,the accuracy of the numerical model was verified with measured data obtained through a thermal response *** on the numerical and experimental thermal response curves,the thermal conductivity of the soil was calculated by different parameter identification *** calculated results were compared with the assumed value and then the accuracy of these methods was ***,the effects of test time,variable data quality,borehole radius,initial ground temperature,and heat injection rate were *** results show that the method based on cylinder-source model has a low precision and the identified thermal conductivity decreases with an increase in borehole *** parameter estimation,the measuring accuracy of the initial temperature of the deep ground soil has greater effect on identified thermal conductivity.
