Intensive fish farming systems in Brazil have increased the disease incidence, mainly of bacterial origin, due to higher stocking density, high organic matter levels and poor quality of the aquatic environment that causes high mortality rates during outbreaks. The identification of pathogenic species using a fast and reliable method of diagnosis is essential for successful epidemiological studies and disease control. The present study evaluated the use of direct colony PCR in combination with 16S rRNA gene sequencing to diagnose fish bacterial diseases, with the goal of reducing the costs and time necessary for bacterial identification. The method was successful for all 178 isolates tested and produced bands with the same intensity as the standard PCR performed using pure DNA. In conclusion, the genetics methods allowed detecting the most common and important pathogens in aquaculture, including 12 species of occurrence in Brazilian fish farms. The results of the present study constitute an advance in the available diagnostic methods for bacterial pathogens in fish farms.

This study aims at investigating the effects of foliar application of aqueous solutions of La3+and Ce3+nitrates on soybean plants(Glycine max).First,we observe that Triton HW 1000 surfactant at 0.01 vol%reduces droplets contact angle and increases their drying *** greenhouse conditions,the foliar treatments do not affect chlorophyll content,plant height,number of leaves,number of pods,number of seeds per pod,and average seed ***,the treatments induce phytotoxicity since foliar injuries appear after the *** X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy combined to scanning electron microscopy shows that the leaf lesions are positively correlated to accumulation of Ce and La on the leaf surface and also promote structural alteration to the epidermal cells.X-ray absorption near edge structure shows that the La and Ce nitrates are partially bio transformed into oxides by the leaves which might explain the harmful effects.

Solid polymer electrolytes based on chitosan and europium triflate were prepared by solvent casting and characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, atomic force microscopy （AFM）, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction exhibited that the samples were essentially amorphous with organized regions over the whole range of the salt content studied. The AFM analysis demonstrated that the smoother sample had roughness of 4.39 nm. Surface visualization through SEM revealed good homogeneity without any phase separation for more conductive samples and the less conductive showed some im- perfections on the surface. The emission and excitation spectra displayed the characteristic bands of Eu（CF3SO3）3 in addition to broad bands corresponding to the polymer host. The excited state 5D0 lifetime values ranged from 0.29-0.37 ms for the studied samples.

Objective： To evaluate the treatment effect of acupuncture on patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia（ITN） by case-control longitudinal blinded study. Methods： Sixty ITN patients and 30 healthy subjects were included. The ITN patients were randomly assigned to acupuncture group（15 cases）, sham-acupuncture group（15 cases） and carbamazepine group（30 cases）, respectively. Clinical orofacial evaluation（including pain intensity and medication doses）, research diagnostic criteria for temporomandibular disorders（RDC/TMD） and Helkimo indexes（for functional evaluation of the masticatory system）, and quantitative sensory testing for sensory thresholds（gustative, olfactory, cold, warm, touch, vibration and superficial and deep pain） were evaluated before treatment, immediately after treatment, and 6 months after treatment. Results： The mean pain intensity by the Visual Analogue Scale only decreased in the acupuncture group at the last evaluation（P=0.012）. Patients in the sham-acupuncture group had an increase in carbamazepine doses according to the prescriptions（P〈0.01）. There was a reduction in secondary myofascial pain and mandibular limitations at the acupuncture and sham-acupuncture groups, however only the acupuncture group kept the changes after 6 months（P〈0.01, P=0.023）. There was a decrease in mechanical thresholds in the acupuncture group（tactile, P〈0.01; vibration, P=0.027） and an increase in deep pain thresholds in both acupuncture and sham-acupuncture groups（P=0.013）. Conclusion： Acupuncture can be an option in the treatment of ITN due to its analgesic effect in both ITN and secondary myofascial pain associated with it.

30 different arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi （AMF） species, distributed in different genera such as Glomus, Acaulospora, Scutellospora, Entrophospora, Ambisporu, Kuklospora, Gigaspora, and Archeospora, have been identified in the root zone of Araucaria angustifolia, known as Brazil Pine. During our AMF survey in this ecosystem, our attention was called to the presence of many superficially growing Araucaria roots. Our hypothesis was that these roots were colonized with AMF because of the presence of AMF spores in organic material aboveground. Samples of these superficial roots and the organic substrate they were growing on were evaluated for their mycorrhizal status. DNA was extracted from the AMF-colonized superficial roots and submitted to polymerase chain reaction （PCR） amplification using the NS31-AM1 primer pair, followed by cloning and sequencing. We found that the root colonization percentages were between 31% and 52%, and the number of AMF spores in the substrate ranged from 27 to 164 spores per 50 g dry substrate. The phylogenetic analyses and tree construction using maximum parsimony （MP） and neighbor-joining （N J） methods identified 13 different species of the phylum Glomeromycota belonging to the genera Glomus, Funneliformis, Rhizophagus, Gigaspora, Acaulospora, and Archaeospora, and five isolates were identified only at the genus level. To our knowledge, this is the first report on Araucaria angustifolia with roots growing aboveground, producing runner roots that develop on dead tree trunks and organic material. The higher colonization of the aboveground roots than those commonly found in belowground Araucaria roots suggests that they may present active metabolic uptake of nutrients.

We report the application of a solid lanthanum-ceria-zinc catalyst in the catalytic regeneration of diesel particulate filters （DPF） in diesel engines. We synthesized a CeO2- ZnO-La2O3 （Ce-Zn-La） mixed oxide by a lactic acid-mediated sol-gel method, which efficiently coated cordierite substrates for soot capture and combustion. We studied the effects of La loading on the physicochemical and catalytic properties of Ce-Zn mixed oxide during lowtemperature soot combustion processes. We characterized the synthesized catalysts by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, N2 adsorption, Raman spectroscopy, oxygen storage capacity （OSG）, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy （SEM and TEM）. Thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis （TGA/DTA） confirmed that the catalysts effectively reduced the soot oxidation temperature. The ternary Ce-Zn-La mixed oxide catalyst with Ce/Zn/La atomic ratio of 2：1：0.5 had the highest catalytic activity and promoted soot oxidation at temperatures below 390℃. This indicated that the large number of oxygen vacancies in the catalyst structure generated oxygen species at low temperatures. Raman spectroscopy measurements revealed the presence of oxygen vacancies and lattice defects in Ce-Zn-La samples, which were key parameters concerning the stability and redox properties of the prepared catalysts.

Environmental pressure, land utilization, and economic feasibility have resulted in the development of alternatives to treatment fish farm wastewater. We examined the influence of two water treatment systems—a constructed wetland (CW) and a soil filter system (SF)—on the constitution of the phytoplankton community analyzed through the functional grouping of species and nutrients removal of aquaculture farm. The CW provided high removal efficiency: 82.9% for ammonia, 87.0% for nitrate, 96.9% for nitrite, 85.5% for total phosphorus, 88.5% for SRP and 71.6% for BOD. Removal efficiency of SF was lower than CW, removing 82.1% of ammonia, 7.2% of total phosphorus, 45.9% of SRP and 39.4% of nitrite, but was satisfactory. The functional group F, made up of Chlorophyceae Dictyosphaerium pulchellum and Kirchneriella lunaris, was the most representative in both systems, followed by functional group P and constituted by Zygnemaphyceae Melosira sp. The number of functional groups decreased in the outlet of the two treatment systems, where S1, H1 and W1, characteristic of eutrophic environment, were retained. Data show that CW and the SF system are potentially applicable to the fish farm wastewater treatment and ensure an improvement in water quality.

Frosts are one of the atmospheric phenomena with one of the larger negative effects on the agricultural sector in the southern region of Brazil,therefore,an earlier forecast can minimize their *** the present work,artificial neural networks(ANNs)techniques were applied in order to improve the predicting capabilities of frost events in southern *** the study,two multilayer perceptron(MLP)ANNs were built,one with ADAM optimizer and the other with *** input parameters MLP-ANNs were numerical predictions of the Eta *** ANNs were trained using four years(2012-2015),while validation and testing were performed using 2016 and 2017,*** episode of frost that occurred on May 21st,2018,related to an intense cold air mass,was also utilized to evaluate the performance of the *** best configurations(topologies and hyperparameters)of the ANNs were identified through experiments,using the highest accuracy obtained during the validation period as a *** results of the ANNs with ADAM and SGD optimizers were compared with the predictions of the Eta *** the case study,an additional comparison against the operational frost index(IG)from the National Institute for Space Research(INPE)was also *** performance of both ANNs(properly configured)with ADAM and SGD optimizers are comparable one to the *** both are significantly better compared to the Eta *** ANNs were able to drastically reduce the underestimation trends of frost events caused by the warm bias of the Eta *** ANNs also indicated more satisfactory performances when compared to the INPE *** general,the ANNs were able to identify deficiencies in Eta predictions,and consequently improve their *** this sense,the use of ANNs to predict frost events can be a very useful tool in an operational environment.

A sample preparation method based on ultrasound assisted-extraction （UAE） of Ca, Mg and P from swine feed has been described. The experiment was performed to cover the variables influencing the sonication process and, the method validation using standard reference material. Final solutions obtained upon sonication were analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry （for Ca and Mg） and by UV-vis spectrophotometry （for P）. The best conditions for metal extraction were as follows： sample mass： 100 mg in 20 mL 0.10 mol/L HCI, a particle size：〈60 lam, sonication time： 5 cycles of 10 s and ultrasound power： 102 W. The UAE method was applied in digestibility assays in different piglet feeds and their results showed that it is highly comparable （P 〉 0.05） to the other methods used for such purposes, as block digestion, and offered a Ca, Mg and P method of quantification limit of 10.6, 12.4 and 14 mg/kg, respectively. The major advantages of the UAE method compared to other methods are the high treatment rate, low reagent usage in the extracts and, it does not generate toxic residues that might negatively affect human health and the environment, accompanied by good precision and accuracy.
