Zn0.90Ni0.10O nanoparticles have been synthesized by single-bath two-electrode electrodeposition at constant voltage. X-ray diffraction, UV vis and photoluminescence studies reveal that a single-phase polycrystalline hcp wurtzite crystal structure of ZnO is evolved. The material consists of a large number of defects such as oxygen vacancy (Ov) and zinc interstitial (Zi). The magnetization study reveals that the sample exhibits room-temperature global ferromagnetism and the ferromagnetic ordering seems to be defect induced via bound magnetic polaron mechanism, and double exchange is also expected to have played role. Interesting optoelectronic properties have been found in the synthesized sample and the material seems to be a potential candidate to be used as a UV sensor. Such a transition metal doped ZnO based dilute magnetic semiconducting system exhibiting room-temperature ferromagnetism is likely to be first of its kind in the sense that such materials have not yet been reported to be synthesized by the simple method of electrodeposition to the best of our knowledge on the basis of ample literature review.

AIM:To evaluate the role of dietary supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids in dry eye ***:A prospective,interventional,placebo controlled,double blind randomized trial was done at two referral eye *** hundred and sixty-four eyes of patients with dry eye were randomized to receive one capsule(500mg)two times a day containing 325mg EPA and 175mg DHA for 3 months(omega-3 group).The omega-3 group was compared to a group of patients(n=254)who received a placebo(placebo group).There were 4 patient visits(at baseline,1 month,2 months and3 months).On each visit,recording of corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA),slit lamp examination and questionnaire based symptom evaluation and scoring was done.A symptomatic score of 0-6 was mild,6.1-12moderate and 12.1-18 severe dry *** to intervention was monitored by routine tear function tests like Schirmer I test,tear film break-up time(TBUT),Rose Bengal staining and most notably,conjunctival impression ***:Sixty-five percent of patients in the omega-3group and 33%of patients in placebo group had significant improvement in symptoms at 3 months(P=0.005).There was a significant change in both Schirmer’s test value and TBUT values in the omega-3group(P<0.001),both ***,there was a larger drift in TBUT values in omega-3 than the placebo group,in comparison to Schirmer’s test *** mean TBUT score was 2.54±2.34 in the omega-3group and 0.13±0.16 in placebo group,*** mean reduction in symptom score in omega-3 group was 2.02±0.96 as compared to 0.48±0.22 in placebogroup(P<0.001).Despite a slight increase mean score,the Schirmer scores did not correlate well with symptomatic ***:Omega-3 fatty acids have a definite role for dry eye *** benefit seems to be more marked in conditions such as blepharitis and meibomian gland *** role of omega fatty acids in tear production and secretion needs further evaluation.

Ocular manifestation and visual outcomes in herpes zoster ophthalmicus:a prospective study from a tertiary hospital of Eastern India

AIM:To estimate the magnitude of different ocular manifestation in clinically established herpes zoster ophthalmicus(HZO)patients and assessment of the visual outcome after two months of initial ***:An observational prospective study was conducted on 42 clinically diagnosed Tzanck smear positive cases HZO to observe the occurrence and frequency of different ocular manifestation and their visual outcome in 10-month period with 2mo follow *** ophthalmological examination using slit lamp,non-contact tonometry,applanation tonometry,direct and indirect ophthalmoscope were ***:Out of 42 patients of HZO,33 had one or more type of ocular manifestation staring from lid skin involvement to conjunctivitis,keratitis,uveitis,increased intraocular pressure(IOP)and optic neuritis but no retinal *** number of HZO cases and ocular manifestation were found with advancement of *** HZO patients were more associated with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection and HIV infected people with HZO infection had more ocular *** to female ratio was 2:1 among HZO cases but ocular manifestation occurred more among *** with advanced age were involved *** involvement(73.81%),conjunctivitis(69.05%),and keratitis(59.52%)were most common ocular manifestation followed by anterior uveitis(30.95%)and episcleritis(11.90%).Ocular hypertension(42.86%)was associated with almost every ocular *** the cases of more than 45 years of age,9.52%patients acquired 6/6 vision compared to 7.14%patients at and below 45 years of age after 8wk of follow ***:The visual outcomes are poor in HZO with advanced age *** outcome of the affected eyes is poor than unaffected *** loss of vision is mainly due to keratitis,anterior uveitis,posterior uveitis,and optic neuritis.

The speech signal in general is corrupted by noise and the noise signal does not affect the speech signal uniformly over the entire spectrum. An improved Wiener filtering method is proposed in this paper for reducing background noise from speech signal in colored noise environments. In view of nonlinear variation of human ear sensibility in frequency spectrum, nonlinear multi-band Bark scale frequency spacing approach is used. The cross-correlation between the speech and noise signal is considered in the proposed method to reduce colored noise. To overcome harmonic distortion introduced in enhanced speech, in the proposed method regenerate the suppressed harmonics are regenerated. Objective and subjective tests were carried out to demonstrate improvement in the perceptual quality of speeches by the proposed technique.

Influence of Cr<sup>3+</sup>Ion on the Dielectric Properties of Nano Crystalline Mg-Ferrites Synthesized by Citrate-Gel Method

Mixed Mg-Cr Nano ferrites having the compositional formula MgCrxFe2-xO4 (where x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9 and 1.0) were synthesized using Citrate-Gel auto combustion method. Structural characterization was carried out by XRD Analysis which confirmed the formation of single phase cubic spinel structure without any impurity peak. The dielectric properties such as Dielectric constant (ε'), Dielectric Loss tangent (tan δ) and AC conductivity (σAC) of Mg-Cr nano ferrites were studied at room temperature in the frequency range of 2 Hz - 2 MHz using Agilent E4980A Precision LCR meter. The dielectric constant, loss tangent and AC conductivity shows a normal behavior with frequency. A qulitative explanation is given for composition and frequency dependance of the dielectric constant, dielectric loss tangent and AC conductivity of the nano ferrite. The loss tangent for the synthesized samples was found to be decreased from 0.09 to 0.054 in higher frequency region showing the potential applications of these materials in high frequency micro wave devices. On the basis of these results the explanation of dielectric mechanism in Mg-Cr ferrites is suggested.

Characterization of Chromium Substituted Cobalt Nano Ferrites Synthesized by Citrate-Gel Auto Combustion Method

Co-Cr nano-ferrites, having the chemical formula CoCrxFe2-xO4 (where x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9 and 1.0), were synthesized by the Citrate-gel auto combustion method. Synthesized powders were sintered at 500°C for 4 hours in an air and were characterized by XRD, SEM and EDS. XRD analysis showed cubic spinel structure of the ferrites and the crystallite sizes (D) were found in the range of 6 - 12 nm. The values of lattice parameter (a) decreased and X-ray density (dx) increased with the increase of Cr content. Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) studies revealed nano crystalline nature of the samples. An elemental composition of the samples was studied by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). The observed results can be explained on the basis of composition and crystal size.

A Clinical Study of Pterygium and Results of Treatment by Excision and Limbal Autograft or Augmented with Post-Op Mitomycin C

Aim: To prospectively analyze the clinical profile of pterygium and to compare results of management by excision with limbal conjunctival autograft or postoperative topical Mitomycin C drops. Methodology: Study was conducted over a period of 23 months, at a tertiary eye care hospital including 80 eyes of 80 patients who underwent surgery, out of which 40 underwent limbal conjunctival autograft and the remaining 40 underwent pterygium excision followed by Mitomycin C after fulfilling the inclusion criteria. A detailed history was taken and recorded regarding the disease with reference to age, occupation, residence, exposure to dust and hot wind. The extent of corneal involvement by the pterygium was noted. The patients were followed after one week and then monthly for a year. BCVA were noted on every visit and slit lamp examination was done for recurrence, sclera thinning and corneal vascularisation. Result: 80 eyes of 80 patients were enrolled with male preponderance, out of which 40 underwent limbal conjunctival autograft (gr. A) and the remaining 40 underwent pterygium excision followed by Mitomycin C (gr. B). All patients were in the age group of 23 to 70 years. The study showed a higher incidence of pterygium in the age group of 41-50 years with male preponderance probably due to chronic dryness, and exposure to ultraviolet light, dust, and hot winds. The right eye was more affected than the left eye, and nasal side was more involved than the temporal side. The recurrence among group A was 2 out of 40 with a recurrence rate of 5% and among group B was 3 out of 40 with a recurrence rate of 7.5%. Scleral thinning was seen in two cases (5%) in patients who underwent pterygium excision followed by Mitomycin C. Conclusion: Conjunctival limbal autograft and postoperative MMC (0.02%) are both safe and effective adjuncts to primary pterygium surgery. Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a distinct public health issue that calls for the quick development of novel treatments and viral detection. Due to their high specificity and reliability, monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have emerged as useful diagnostic and therapeutic tools for a variety of diseases. As a result, several scientists have jumped right into developing Ab-based assays for the identification of SARS-CoV-2 and Ab drugs for use as COVID-19 therapy agents. Since the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is essential for viral infection and has a known precise structure, it has become a key target for the creation of therapeutic antibodies. The use of Ab cocktails is anticipated to be a key component of an efficient COVID-19 treatment plan since SARS-CoV-2 is an RNA virus with a high mutation rate, particularly when subjected to the selection pressure of aggressively applied preventive vaccinations and neutralizing Abs. Furthermore, SARS-CoV-2 infection could provoke an overzealous immune response, leading to a cytokine storm that accelerates the onset of a severe disease. Abs to counteract cytokine storms are also actively being researched as COVID-19 therapies. Abs are now used in SARS-CoV-2 detection assays, including immunoglobulin and antigen tests, in addition to their use as medicines. In order to stop the spread of COVID-19, such Ab-based detection tests are essential surveillance tools. Many nanoparticles have been created over the last few decades using a variety of techniques and used to develop environmental technology, including water treatment, the detection of persistent contaminants, and soil and water remediation. The studies of alternative inputs for nanoparticle production as well as the use of green synthesis techniques are driven by the field of materials science and engineering’s growing interest in increasing the sustainability of the processes involved in their production. In this paper, we begin by providing an overview of the fundamental principles of producing nanoparticles from different sources, such as plastic, electronic, metal, and industrial waste. We elaborate on key facts of waste identification as a workable input for the treatment and recovery of metal and carbon-based nanoparticles. We next go over several controlling factors that play a role in creating nanoparticles, pointing out probable conclusions as we go. Then, we show some instances of waste-derived nanoparticles used in a proof-of-concept experiment of technology for applications in water quality and safety. Before scaling up production and implementing waste-derived nanoparticles, there are several present problems from the toxicological and life-cycle perspectives that must be taken into account.
