Interspecific competition predicts the potential impact of little fire ant Wasmannia auropunctata (Roger) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) invasion on resident ants in southern China

The little fire ant Wasmannia auropunctata(Roger)is a major invasive species that seriously threatens the biodiversity of invaded *** was first reported in Chinese mainland in 2022 and its impact on native species is still *** evaluate the impact of *** invasion on the ant communities in southern China,a series of interspecific competition experiments were conducted in this *** individual aggression index and group aggression experiments showed the advantage of *** in competition with 5 resident ants under equal worker *** encountering Anoplolepis gracilipes,Camponotus nicobarensis,Tetramorium bicarinatum,Polyrhachis dives,and Solenopsis invicta,*** gradually gained a competitive advantage with an increase in its number of *** the group aggression experiments with equal worker numbers,there was a negative correlation between the body length and mortality rate of resident *** results of the foraging behavior experiments showed that *** was able to dominate food resources under competition with Carebara diversa,which also displayed weak competition in the group aggression *** addition,the abilities to recruit workers and retrieve food were inhibited under competition with *** and *** results of the nesting behavior experiments showed that in the 24-h bout of space resource competition,*** was dominant over ***,***,and *** results of this study show that *** has certain advantages in competition for food and space resources over resident ants in southern China,and some resident ant species may be replaced in the future.

Research on cross-chain and interoperability for blockchain system

At present, there is an urgent need for blockchain interoperability technology to realize interconnection between various blockchains, data communication and value transfer between blockchains, so as to break the ‘value silo’ phenomenon of each blockchain. Firstly, it lists what people understand about the concept of interoperability. Secondly, it gives the key technical issues of cross-chain, including cross-chain mechanism, interoperability, eventual consistency, and universality. Then, the implementation of each cross-chain key technology is analyzed, including Hash-locking, two-way peg, notary schemes, relay chain scheme, cross-chain protocol, and global identity system. Immediately after that, five typical cross-chain systems are introduced and comparative analysis is made. In addition, two examples of cross-chain programmability and their analysis are given. Finally, the current state of cross-chain technology is summarized from two aspects: key technology implementation and cross-chain application enforcement. The cross-chain technology as a whole has formed a centralized fixed mechanism, as well as a trend of modular design, and some of the solutions to mature applications were established in the relevant standards organizations, and the cross-chain technology architecture tends to be unified, which is expected to accelerate the evolution of the open cross-chain network that supports the real needs of the interconnection of all chains.

Accelerating local SGD for non-IID data using variance reduction

Distributed stochastic gradient descent and its variants have been widely adopted in the training of machine learning models,which apply multiple workers in *** them,local-based algorithms,including Local SGD and FedAvg,have gained much attention due to their superior properties,such as low communication cost and ***,when the data distribution on workers is non-identical,local-based algorithms would encounter a significant degradation in the convergence *** this paper,we propose Variance Reduced Local SGD(VRL-SGD)to deal with the heterogeneous *** extra communication cost,VRL-SGD can reduce the gradient variance among workers caused by the heterogeneous data,and thus it prevents local-based algorithms from slow convergence ***,we present VRL-SGD-W with an effectivewarm-up mechanism for the scenarios,where the data among workers are quite *** from eliminating the impact of such heterogeneous data,we theoretically prove that VRL-SGD achieves a linear iteration speedup with lower communication complexity even if workers access non-identical *** conduct experiments on three machine learning *** experimental results demonstrate that VRL-SGD performs impressively better than Local SGD for the heterogeneous data and VRL-SGD-W is much robust under high data variance among workers.

In recent decades,genetic advances in yield improvement in the major cereal crops,including wheat,has stagnated or proceeded at a slower rate than is required to meet future global food demand,particularly in the face of climate *** reverse this situation,and in view of the future climate scenario,there is a need to increase the genetic diversity of wheat to increase its productivity,quality,stability,and adaptation to local *** abundant genetic resources and literature are a basis for wheat ***,many species,such as wild relatives,landraces,and old cultivars have not been studied beyond their agronomic characteristics,highlighting the lack of understanding of the physiological and metabolic processes(and their integration) associated with higher productivity and resilience in limiting *** studies using wheat ancestors and modern cultivars may identify novel traits that have not previously been considered,or have been underestimated,during domestication and breeding,but that may contribute to future food *** review describes existing wheat genetic diversity and changes that occurred during domestication and breeding,and considers whether mining natural variation among wheat ancestors offers an opportunity to enhance wheat agronomic performance,spike architecture,canopy-and organ-level photosynthetic capacity,and responses to abiotic stress,as well as to develop new wheat hybrids.

This paper proposes a novel approach for the provision of non-frequency ancillary service(AS)by consumers connected to low-voltage distribution *** proposed approach considers an asymmetric pool-based local market for AS negotiation,allowing consumers to set a flexibility quantity and desired price to trade.A case study with 98 consumers illustrates the proposed market-based non-frequency AS provision ***,three different strategies of consumers’participation are implemented and tested in a real low-voltage distribution network with radial *** is shown that consumers can make a profit from the sale of their flexibility while contributing to keeping the network power losses,voltage,and current within pre-defined ***,the results demonstrate the value of AS coming directly from end-users.

The blockchain technology has been applied to wide ***,the open and transparent properties of the blockchains pose serious challenges to users’*** all the schemes for the privacy protection,the zero-knowledge proof algorithm conceals most of the private information in a transaction,while participants of the blockchain can validate this transaction without the private ***,current schemes are only aimed at blockchains with the UTXO model,and only one type of assets circulates on these *** on the zero-knowledge proof algorithm,this paper proposes a privacy protection scheme for blockchains that use the account and multi-asset *** design the transaction structure,anonymous addresses and anonymous asset metadata,and also propose the methods of the asset transfer and double-spending *** zk-SNARKs algorithm is used to generate and to verify the zero-knowledge *** finally,we conduct the experiments to evaluate our scheme.

Robust sequential design for piecewise-stationary multi-armed bandit problem in the presence of outliers

The multi-armed bandit(MAB)problem studies the sequential decision making in the presence of uncertainty and partial feedback on *** name comes from imagining a gambler at a row of slot machines who needs to decide the best strategy on the number of times as well as the orders to play each *** is a classic reinforcement learning problem which is fundamental to many online learning *** many practical applications of the MAB,the reward distributions may change at unknown time steps and the outliers(extreme rewards)often *** sequential design strategies may struggle in such cases,as they tend to infer additional change points to fit the *** this paper,we propose a robust change-detection upper confidence bound(RCD-UCB)algorithm which can distinguish the real change points from the outliers in piecewise-stationary MAB *** show that the proposed RCD-UCB algorithm can achieve a nearly optimal regret bound on the order of O(√SKT log T),where T is the number of time steps,K is the number of arms and S is the number of stationary *** demonstrate its superior performance compared to some state-of-the-art algorithms in both simulation experiments and real data analysis.(See https://***/woaishufenke/MAB_*** for the codes used in this paper.)

Chemical Composition and antioxidant Activity of <i>Bunchosia glandulifera</i>Fruit at Different Ripening Stages

Bunchosia glandulifera belongs to the family Malpighiaceae and is popularly known as “caferana” in the city of Santo antonio da Patrulha. The fruits have a high economic value and their inclusion in the diet has health benefits. They are natural sources of antioxidants because of the presence of bioactive compounds. However, their chemical composition can be influenced by the maturation process. This study aims to evaluate the changes in the bioactive antioxidant compounds in the pulp and seeds of B. glandulifera fruit during different stages of ripening. The fruits, were analyzed for caffeine, carotenoids, flavonoids, vitamin C, and total phenolic content as well as for antioxidant activity, at four different stages of ripening. An increase in bioactive compounds was observed from the second maturation stage to the ripened fruit, and the ripened fruit had the highest bioactive compound content. Phenolic compound and carotenoid levels were found to be highest in the pulp. Carotenoid content showed a positive correlation with the antioxidant activity. Colorimetric analysis also showed a high correlation between the levels of carotenoids and color change during the ripening stages.

PEPFL:A framework for a practical and efficient privacy-preserving federated learning

As an emerging joint learning model,federated learning is a promising way to combine model parameters of different users for training and inference without collecting users’original ***,a practical and efficient solution has not been established in previous work due to the absence of efficient matrix computation and cryptography schemes in the privacy-preserving federated learning model,especially in partially homomorphic *** this paper,we propose a Practical and Efficient Privacy-preserving Federated Learning(PEPFL)***,we present a lifted distributed ElGamal cryptosystem for federated learning,which can solve the multi-key problem in federated ***,we develop a Practical Partially Single Instruction Multiple Data(PSIMD)parallelism scheme that can encode a plaintext matrix into single plaintext for encryption,improving the encryption efficiency and reducing the communication cost in partially homomorphic *** addition,based on the Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)and the designed cryptosystem,a novel privacy-preserving federated learning framework is designed by using Momentum Gradient Descent(MGD).Finally,we evaluate the security and performance of *** experiment results demonstrate that the scheme is practicable,effective,and secure with low communication and computation costs.
