Assessment of recharge capacity potential of groundwater using comparative multi-criteria decision analysis approaches

Groundwater resources have always been some of the most valuable resources of human settlements.Climate changes and ever-increasing water demands registered in the last century have led to diminishing levels of groundwater reserves,as well as reduced recharging potential.Therefore,in order to use groundwater aquifers in a sustainable manner,it is required to identify areas with higher replenishing potential.The current study addresses the issue of generating a map for identifying differently ranked groundwater recharging potential values,in the aquifers of the Moldavian Plain region,Romania.For the purpose of conducting the analysis,maps were created through GIS based multi-criteria Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)and Catastrophe Theory(CT),with seven relevant,thematic,spatial layers:precipitation distribution,lithological strata,soil texture,declivity,drainage density,land use and the distribution of groundwater level tendencies.The results of the two methods of analysis are similar.Prediction differences are of maximum 3%,in the case of extreme classes(very bad and very good)and in the case of middle classes the deviation is not greater than 0.4%.Following the validation of the results generated by the two methods that were applied,it was observed that the predictions offered by CT are more accurate.This aspect can be based on the fact that the main factors that contribute to the prediction are different.This type of workflow emphasizes the necessity of implementing appropriate groundwater management plans for mitigating reservoir scarcity/depletion,and recommending sustainable solutions for future groundwater exploitation practices.

The thermal stress in a magnetic core–shell nanoparticle during a thermal process is an important parameter to be known and controlled in the magnetization process of the core–shell system. In this paper we analyze the stress that appears in a core–shell nanoparticle subjected to a cooling process. The external surface temperature of the system, considered in equilibrium at room temperature, is instantly reduced to a target temperature. The thermal evolution of the system in time and the induced stress are studied using an analytical model based on a time-dependent heat conduction equation and a differential displacement equation in the formalism of elastic displacements. The source of internal stress is the difference in contraction between core and shell materials due to the temperature change. The thermal stress decreases in time and is minimized when the system reaches the thermal equilibrium. The radial and azimuthal stress components depend on system geometry, material properties, and initial and final temperatures. The magnitude of the stress changes the magnetic state of the core–shell system. For some materials, the values of the thermal stresses are larger than their specific elastic limits and the materials begin to deform plastically in the cooling process. The presence of the induced anisotropy due to the plastic deformation modifies the magnetic domain structure and the magnetic behavior of the system.

Arguably,globalisation has caused an identity crisis in Europe.As national borders became more integrated in the last few decades,the volume of migrants into the EU and the value of ethnicity held by Europeans have also been on the rise.Particularly,the bloc has been facing an influx of immigrants from the African and Middle East continents.As for the EU leaders,their stance on a common migration policy is entrenched in the wider social,cultural,and political processes that depict an endangered European identity.This would explain the current debate on immigration in many of the European countries appears to have been securitised.This paper takes a wider look into how immigration has reshaped the EU,as well as,how EU immigrants have had to shift their identities as they struggle to fit into their new society.

Ethics and compliance programs have a direct linkage to key tenets of employee behaviors.The employee behaviors are building blocks of the organizations’psychological environment traits.They are characterized by role identity,self-awareness,motivation,and misconduct.It is crucial to unravel the diversity of the perspectives of the programs to design an appropriate framework of the relationship between ethics and compliance and organizational psychology.According to Weinstein(2019),“Compliance is a fundamental pillar of any corporate operation and culture,and it should be based upon the principles of transparency,impartiality,responsibility,integrity,professionalism and ethics”.While“Ethics goes beyond what the law requires.It involves doing the right thing and following both the spirit and not just the letter of the law”.The founding facets of effective ethics and compliance are culture,leaders,and risks management.Policies and procedures that integrate these factors reduce the risks of non-compliance.The organization psychological environment aligns with key characteristics of the workplace such as physical setting,culture,and job characteristics.Aspects such as noise,heat,and lighting measures may considerably impact concentration,thus affecting psychological well-being.According to Ruiz-Palomino,Martínez-Cañas,and Fontrodona(2013,p.173),ethical culture directly impacts an individual’s emotional and well-being,which characterizes organizational psychology.Culture and ethics influence perceived corporate support and social exchange,which trigger ethics and compliance.

Organizational climate refers to the collective behavioral tendencies of persons within an organization.It is an essential ingredient in determining business success,since the behavior of persons within an organization influences all types of interaction.At the same time,organizational climate also determines how much employees will dedicate themselves towards the achievement of their organization’s goal.However,although organizational climate is largely a product of organizational structure and leadership techniques,it remains significantly influenced by the personality traits of employees.Ideally,personality refers to the pattern of beliefs,attitudes,values,and behaviors perpetrated by an individual over an extensive period.Personality is unique to every individual,but it could potentially impact organizational climate.That is because it determines whether individuals will comply with the climate of their organization.In this study,the aim will be to prove that personality affects organizational climate.Findings indicate that personality determines compatibility between individual and organization,indicating that some individuals are not good for some organizations and vice versa.

A knowledge-driven approach is proposed for assessing the music influence on university students.The proposed method of modeling and conducting the interactive pilot study can be useful to convey other surveys,interviews,and experiments created in various phases of the user interface(UI)design processes,as part of a general human-computer interaction(HCI)methodology.Benefiting from existing semantic Web and linked data standards,best practices,and tools,a microservice-oriented system is developed as a testbed platform able to generate playlists in a smart way according to users’music preferences.This novel approach could bring also benefits for user interface adaptation by using semantic Web techniques.Statistical analysis based on the ANOVA method and post-experiment survey data led to the conclusion that music listened has a significant impact on students’cognitive abilities in various contexts.All obtained results were semantically enhanced by using different conceptual models in order to create a knowledge graph providing support for automated reasoning.Also,a knowledge-based persona Web smart editor was implemented in order to include music preferences for certain categories of the potential users operating a specific interactive system.

The founding Greek vision on virtue/areté(άρέτη)offers a significant pathway to continuously reflect upon and understand,to activate and improve our own potential in promoting human well-being.It eventually leads to the value of wisdom in life,so much needed in tumultuous times of the current multilevel crisis;the moral one deeply affecting but also challenging to problem-solving the individual and society alike in the context of the axiological disarray we have to deal with.Highlighting the aretelogical approach as it has been developed from the Presocratics to the Hellenistic philosophers sustains the effort of comprehending the necessity of virtue in reaching and experiencing human well-being;hence the invitation to(re)learn from a great philosophical tradition focusing on the ethical nucleus-value articulated through the ancient“cardinal virtues”and that persisted over the centuries till the nowadays’“technomoral virtues”.We aim to raise awareness about the royal way of virtue by exploring and appropriating its meaning worth to be constantly disclosed for an authentic human life enlightened by the ideal of eudaimonίa(εύδαιμονία).

A correct assessment of the landslide susceptibility component is extremely useful for the diminution of associated potential risks to local economic development, particularly in regard to land use planning and soil conservation. The purpose of the present study was to compare the usefulness of two methods, i.e., binary logistic regression(BLR) and analytical hierarchy process(AHP), for the assessment of landslide susceptibility over a 130-km^2 area in the Moldavian Plateau(eastern Romania) region, where landslides affect large areas and render them unsuitable for agriculture. A large scale inventory mapping of all types of landslides(covering 13.7% of the total area) was performed using orthophoto images, topographical maps, and field surveys. A geographic information system database was created, comprising the nine potential factors considered as most relevant for the landsliding process. Five factors(altitude, slope angle, slope aspect, surface lithology, and land use) were further selected for analysis through the application of a tolerance test and the stepwise filtering procedure of BLR. For each predictor, a corresponding raster layer was built and a dense grid of equally spaced points was generated, with an approximately equal number of points inside and outside the landslide area, in order to extract the values of the predictors from raster layers. Approximately half of the total number of points was used for model computation, while the other half was used for validation. Analytical hierarchy process was employed to derive factor weights, with several pair-wise comparison matrices being tested for this purpose. The class weights, on a scale of 0 to 1, were taken as normalized landslide densities. A comparison of results achieved through these two approaches showed that BLR was better suited for mapping landslide susceptibility, with 82.8% of the landslide area falling into the high and very high susceptibility classes.
