Gonad traits and age structure of the sea urchin Heliocidaris crassispina in central range:a comparison with rangeextenders

The sea urchin Heliocidaris crassispina has northern expanded in geographic range to Toga Bay,Oga Peninsula in the Sea of Japan due to the global *** demonstrate the gonad traits and age structure of *** in the central range and compare the difference with those in northern extended range,we collected 100 *** individuals from a barren off Shitsumi,Fukui(central range),in August *** growth,gonad traits(size,development and color),and sex ratio were investigated and compared with those in Toga Bay,in August 2014(extended range).The successive 2012–2016 year classes of *** indicated successive juvenile recruitment in the central range,as found in the extended *** individuals at three years old in central range were obviously larger than those in the extended range,showing large test diameter and body weight,possibly due to the higher temperature in central range than that in northern extended *** addition,a balanced sex ratio in the central range was found,in contrast to the female-skewed sex ratio found in the extended *** development was sex-and *** testicular development in the central range was not only delayed in comparison to ovarian development,but also less delayed than those in the extended range,which possibly attribute to the higher water temperature in the central range.A significantly lower male gonad index and L*(lightness)value was recorded in central ranges compared to that in extended range,possibly due to the releasement of sperm of *** in central ranges.

A parameter optimization approach to robust PI-controller design for systems with interval plants

The purpose of this paper is to develop an analytic way for designing optimal PI-controllers for the interval plant family. Optimality means that the coefficient intervals of the plant stabilized by a PI-controller is maximized. It will be shown that the optimization problem can be formulated in terms of an eigenvalue minimization problem of matrix pairs of the form （H（h0, g0）, H（δ1,k, δ2,k））, where k= 1, 2, 3, 4 and both H（h0, g0） and H（δ1,k,δ2,k） are frequency independent Hurwitz-like matrices. A numerical example is provided to illustrate that optimal controller parameters can be successfully obtained by a two-dimensional search.

Many advanced driver assistance systems have entered the market,and automated driving technologies have been *** of them may not work in adverse weather conditions.A forward-looking camera,for example,is the most popular system used for lane detection but does not work for a snow-covered *** present paper proposes a self-localization system for snowy roads when the roadsides are covered with *** system employs a four-layer laser scanner and onboard sensors and uses only pre-existing roadside snow poles provided for drivers in a snowy region without any other road *** the landscape greatly changes in a short time during a snowstorm and snow removal works,it is necessary to restrict the landmarks used for self-localization to tall objects,like snow poles.A system incorporating this technology will support a driver’s efforts to keep to a lane even in a heavy snowstorm.

Allocation of Mobile Chippers for a Concentrated Bioenergy Demand

Allocation of mobile chippers is a tactical problem of management in a bioenergy supply chain. It influences the entire supply cost of the wood chip since the transportation distance and the chipping productivity decide the transportation cost. Great and concentrated demands of woody biomass require multiple suppliers, and there should be the best allocation of mobile chippers which minimize the entire supply cost. This study aims to clarify better management of the supply chain consisting of multiple players for a great and concentrated demand for wood chip. The model was a supply chain for a typical biomass power plant with 5.8 MW capacity. Suppliers were assumed to select mobile chippers from two sizes, 140-kW and 353-kW. By the model simulation, it was clarified that the well-considered allocation of two different mobile chippers could reduce the entire supply cost less than the conventional system using a fixed chipper at the power plant. The best management was to use only the 353-kW chippers, and secondly to allocate the less productive chippers closer to the demand to prevent the incline of the transportation cost. However, the possible conflict was also specified as the increased cost of the suppliers using more productive chippers in the second best allocation strategy. This result emphasizes the necessity of resolving such conflict by making the collaborative relationship among stakeholders which has been pointed out by other researches as well to sustain the better condition of the supply chain.

Synthesis and characterization on semi-aromatic polyamide containing benzoxazole unit

In order to obtain a novel polyamide having excellent heat-resistant properties which could be anticipated as a thermal modifier for aliphatic polyamide,a series of new semi-aromatic polyamides (BO6,BO8,BO10) containing benzoxazole unit were synthesized based on 5-amino-2-(p-aminophenyl) benzoxazole (ABO) and aliphatic acids (adipic,suberic and sebacic acid) by means of Yamazaki phosphorylation *** effect of reaction temperature on the inherent viscosity of the polymers was studied,and the structures of products were characterized by FTIR,1 H-NMR,and the heat resistance of the polymers was studied by DSC and *** results showed that the reaction temperature gives the polymers the highest viscosity at around 90 ℃,130 ℃ and 130 ℃ for BO6,BO8 and BO10,*** heat resistance of the new semi-aromatic polyamides is much higher than that of the common aliphatic *** addition,the products show good solvent resistance and crystallization properties.

Influence of Agricultural Activity on Nitrogen Budget in Chinese and Japanese Watersheds

To analyze the effect of agricultural activity on nitrogen(N) budget at the watershed scale,a comparative study was conducted at two Japanese watersheds,the Shibetsu River watershed(SRW) and Upper-Naka River watershed(UNRW),and one Chinese watershed,the Jurong Reservoir watershed(JRW).The total area and the proportion of agricultural area(in parentheses) of the watersheds were 685(51%),1 299(21%),and 46 km 2(55%) for SRW,UNRW,and JRW,*** main agricultural land use in SRW was forage grassland,while paddy fields occupied the highest proportion of cropland in UNRW(11% of total area) and JRW(31% of total area).The farmland surplus N was 61,48,and 205 kg N ha 1 year 1 for SRW,UNRW,and JRW,*** total input and output for the whole watershed were 89 and 76,83 and 61,and 353 and 176 kg N ha 1 year 1 for SRW,UNRW,and JRW,*** proportion of discharged N to net anthropogenic N input was 31%,37%,and 1.7% for SRW,UNRW,and JRW,*** two watersheds in Japan showed similar proportions of discharged N to those of previous reports,while the watershed in China(JRW) showed a totally different characteristic compared to previous *** high N input in JRW did not increase the amount of discharged N at the outlet of the watershed due to high proportions of paddy fields and water bodies,which was an underestimated N sink at the landscape scale.

Understanding the Thermal Impedance of Silicone Rubber/Hexagonal Boron Nitride Composites as Thermal Interface Materials

Silicone rubber(SR) composites are most widely used as thermal interface materials(TIMs) for electronics heat dissipation. Thermal impedance as the main bottleneck limiting the performance of TIMs is usually neglected. Herein, the thermal impedance of SR composites loaded with different levels of hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) as TIMs was elaborated for the first time by the ASTM D 5470 standard test and finite element analysis. It was found that elastic modulus and surface roughness of SR composites increased with the increase of h-BN content, indicating that the conformity was reduced. When the assembly pressure was 0.69 MPa, there existed an optimal h-BN content at which the contact resistance was minimum(0.39 K·cm^(2)·W^(-1)). Although the decreased bond line thickness(BLT) by increasing the assembly pressure was beneficial to reduce the thermal impedance, the proper assembly pressure should be selected to prevent the warpage of the contact surfaces and the increase in contact resistance, according to the compression properties of the SR composites. This study provides valuable insights into fabrication of high-performance TIMs for modern electronic device applications.

Macrobenthos monitoring in the Gulf of Suez,Egypt

The biogeography of macrobenthic communities with large-scale differences in species distribution and abundance was studied along the eastern and western coastal regions of the Gulf of Suez to indicate biodiversity of benthos in relation to the prevailing environmental conditions. In general, benthos have a wide variety of species of mainly polychaet worms, crustaceans, bivalves, and other bottom invertebrates living in burrows in/or on the sediment surface. Coastal development clearly affects the ecosystem after the construction of coastal projects. The highest values of benthic diversity, evenness, richness and dominance are found at the Gulf of Suez （WG 1, WG 3）, Ras Gharib （WG 7, WG 8） and Ras Shukier （WG 9a） by contrast to others. The abundance of macrobenthic organsims along the coasts of Gulf of Suez can be arranged in the following sequence： other groups （34%） greater than crustaceans （25%） greater than polychaetes （22%） greater than molluscs （17%） greater than echinoderms （2%）. The biomass of benthic assemblages at different sampling sites can also be ranked as follows： echinoderms （52%） greater than molluscs （27%） greater than crustaceans （16%） greater than polychaetes （2%） greater than other groups （3%）. Some benthic groups or species indicated a distinctive correlation to pollution sources in the marine ecosystem which obviously increased in the coastal areas due to the extension of the coastal development. These activities needed regular information to establish database for the biology and distribution of marine benthic communities. The density and diversity of benthos are significantly affected by eutrophication at Ain Sukhna, whereas the benthos in the open Gulf of Suez do not seem to be adversely affected by pollution.

Fabrication of wear-resistant PA6 composites with superior thermal conductivity and mechanical properties via constructing highly oriented hybrid network of SiC-packed BN platelets

Herein,a strong extensional and shearing field was introduced to construct highly oriented hybrid networks of silicon carbide(SiC)-packed boron nitride(BN)platelets to fabricate high-performance wearresistant PA6 *** show that in-plane and through-plane thermal conductivity(TC)of the prepared PA6 composites with a total filler loading of 20 wt.%reached 1.31 and 0.35 W/(m K),352%and 25%higher than those of pure PA6,*** is attributed to the highly oriented hybrid network that facilitates the formation of efficient thermal conductivity *** monitoring results during friction confirm that high TC favors the friction heat dissipation ***,the yield strength of PA6 composites increased by 39.1%and they still have excellent ductility with an elongation at break of 207.1%.Finally,the wear rate of PA6 composites decreased sharply by 92.5%.This method can be used to manufacture advanced linear bearing and guideway parts,etc。

Medusa consumption and prey selection of silver pomfret Pampus argenteus juveniles

The current study explored Aurelia aurita and Rhopilema esculent um consumption by silver pomfret juveniles, as well as their prey selection between the two jellyfi sh species. Silver pomfret juveniles weighing 1±0.1 g actively preyed on both the species. Their daily A. aurita consumption was 11.6 times their own body weights regardless of the size of A. aurita medusae. Their daily R. esculent um consumption was 13, 9.1, 5, and 4.1 times their own body weights when the R. esculentum medusae were 10, 20, 30, and 40 mm in bell diameter, respectively. The survival rates of the R. esculent um were higher than those of the A. aurita. When the R. esculent um medusae were more than 30 mm in bell diameter, their survival rate exceeded 92%. Silver pomfrets serve as a type of potential predators on A. aurita in coastal waters, and they have little infl uence on R. esculent um with a size exceeding 30 mm. Besides, A. aurita may be able to be used as fi sh prey in silver pomfret artifi cial breeding.
