The high penetration of renewable energy systems with fluctuating power generation into the electric grids affects considerably the electric power quality and supply reliability.Therefore, energy storage resources are used to deal with the challenges imposed by power variability and demand-supply balance.The main focus of this paper is to investigate the appropriate storage technologies and the capacity needed for a successful tidal power integration.Therefore, a simplified sizing method, integrating an energy management strategy, is proposed.This method allows the selection of the adequate storage technologies and determines the required least-cost storage capacity by considering their technological limits associated with different power dynamics.The optimal solutions given by the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm are presented and analyzed.

Aims:Palbociclib has been approved in combination with endocrine therapy(ET)for hormone receptor-positive(HR+)/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative(HER2-)advanced breast cancer(ABC),regardless of age.Even though ABC is one of the most prevalent cancers in older patients,very few patients≥65 years old were included in pivotal trials.Therefore,the current study evaluated the safety and efficacy of palbociclib in“real-world”routine treatment of unselected older patients with HR+/HER2-ABC.Methods:Data were collected on patients>70 years old who were treated with palbociclib plus ET for HR+/HER2-ABC in our institution.We analyzed safety data(CTCAE v4.0 criteria)and outcomes,such as progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS),as well as any associations between main geriatric characteristics and our results.Furthermore,we assessed safety at a national level by analyzing all palbociclib-related adverse events(AEs)reported in the French Pharmacovigilance Database(FPVD)during the same period.Results:From February 2016 to July 2019,52 patients were identified with a median age of 80.9 years,of whom 88%presented an AE.The most common grade 3-4 AE was neutropenia(64%).Median PFS and OS were nine months and not reached,respectively.The FPVD reports 227 cases of palbociclib-related AEs,with older and younger patients sharing similar characteristics.Conclusion:Palbociclib is well tolerated in older patients with efficacy comparable to that in younger patients.However,the addition of palbociclib to ET should be evaluated individually in this older and frailer subgroup.

This investigation deals with the effects of slip, magnetic field, and non- Newtonian flow parameters on the flow and heat transfer of an incompressible, electrically conducting fourth-grade fluid past an infinite porous plate. The heat transfer analysis is carried out for two heating processes. The system of highly non-linear differential equations is solved by the shooting method with the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method for moderate values of the parameters. The effective Broyden technique is adopted in order to improve the initial guesses and to satisfy the boundary conditions at infinity. An exceptional cross-over is obtained in the velocity profile in the presence of slip. The fourth-grade fluid parameter is found to increase the momentum boundary layer thickness, whereas the slip parameter substantially decreases it. Similarly, the non-Newtonian fluid parameters and the slip have opposite effects on the thermal boundary layer thickness.

Sequence-defined oligocarbamates were synthesized by orthogonal iterative chemistry on a modified Wang solid support.In this approach,amino alcohol building blocks,containing either primary or secondary amines,were used in order to obtain ondemand either a classical urethane motif−NH−CO−O−or a Nsubstituted urethane linkage−NR−CO−O−.Hence,aperiodic carbamate sequences could be easily prepared in this work.Polymers with different monomer sequences and chain-length were synthesized.Characterization by NMR,SEC and ESI-MS indicated formation of near-monodisperse polymers.Furthermore,these informational oligocarbamates were sequenced by MS/MS.Very interestingly,it was found that a fully orthogonal fragmentation of−NH−CO−O−urethane motifs occurs in these macromolecules.

This article reports the various methods used to assess diaphragmatic function by ultrasonography.The excursions of the two hemidiaphragms can be measured using two-dimensional or M-mode ultrasonography,during respiratory maneuvers such as quiet breathing,voluntary sniffing and deep inspiration.On the zone of apposition to the rib cage for both hemidiaphragms,it is possible to measure the thickness on expiration and during deep breathing to assess the percentage of thickening during inspiration.These two approaches make it possible to assess the quality of the diaphragmatic function and the diagnosis of diaphragmatic paralysis or dysfunction.These methods are particularly useful in circumstances where there is a high risk of phrenic nerve injury or in diseases affecting the contractility or the motion of the diaphragm such as neuro-muscular diseases.Recent methods such as speckle tracking imaging and ultrasound shear wave elastography should provide more detailed information for better assessment of diaphragmatic function.

Complete surgical resection still remains the only possibility of curing pancreatic cancer,however,only 10% of patients undergo curative surgery.Pancreatic resection currently remains the only method of curing patients,and has a 5-year overall survival rate between 7%-34% compared to a median survival of 3-11 mo for unresected cancer.Pancreatic surgery is a technically demanding procedure requiring highly standardized surgical techniques.Nevertheless,even in experienced hands,perioperative morbidity rates(delayed gastric emptying,pancreatic fistula etc.) are as high as 50%.Different strategies to reduce postoperative morbidity,such as different techniques of gastroenteric reconstruction(pancreatico-jejunostomy vs pancreatico-gastrostomy),intraoperative placement of a pancreatic main duct stent or temporary sealing of the main pancreatic duct with fibrin glue have not led to a significant improvement in clinical outcome.The perioperative application of somatostatin or its analogues may decrease the incidence of pancreatic fistulas in cases with soft pancreatic tissue and a small main pancreatic duct(< 3 mm).The positive effects of external pancreatic main duct drainage and antecolic gastrointestinal reconstruction have been observed to decrease the rate of pancreatic fistulas and delayed gastric emptying,respectively.Currently,the concept of extended radical lymphadenectomy has been found to be associated with higher perioperative morbidity,but without any positive impact on overall survival.However,there is growing evidence that portal vein resections can be performed with acceptable low perioperative morbidity and mortality but does not achieve a cure.

YangAbstractThe use of the BCL2 inhibitor venetoclax has transformed the management of patients with acute myeloid leukemia(AML)who are ineligible for intensive chemotherapy.By triggering intrinsic apoptosis,the drug is an excellent illustration of how our greater understanding of molecular cell death pathways can be translated into the clinic.Nevertheless,most venetoclax-treated patients will relapse,suggesting the need to target additional regulated cell death pathways.To highlight advances in this strategy,we review the recognized regulated cell death pathways,including apoptosis,necroptosis,ferroptosis and autophagy.Next,we detail the therapeutic opportunities to trigger regulated cell death in AML.Finally,we describe the main drug discovery challenges for regulated cell death inducers and their translation into clinical trials.A better knowledge of the molecular pathways regulating cell death represents a promising strategy to develop new drugs to cure resistant or refractory AML patients,particularly those resistant to intrinsic apoptosis.

Determining osmotic suction from the electrical conductivity(EC)of soil pore water was widely reported in the literature.However,while dealing with unsaturated soils,they do not have enough soil pore water to be extracted for a reliable measurement of EC.In this paper,the chilled-mirror dew-point hygrometer and contact filter paper method were used to determine the total and matric suctions for low-plasticity soils with different salinities(0.05‰,2.1‰,and 6.76‰).A new piecewise function was proposed to calculate the osmotic suction,with the piecewise point corresponding to the first occurrence of precipitated salt in mixed salt solutions(synthetic seawater).EC,ion and salt concentrations used for osmotic suction calculation were transformed from the established relationships of mixed salt solution instead of experimental measurement.The calculated osmotic suction by the proposed equation and the equations in the literature was compared with the indirectly measured one(the difference between the measured total and matric suctions).Results showed that the calculated osmotic suction,especially the one calculated using the proposed function,was in fair agreement with the indirectly measured data(especially for specimens with higher salinity of 6.76‰),suggesting that the transformation of EC and concentrations from the established relationship is a good alternative to direct measurement for lowplasticity soil.In particular,the proposed method could be applied to unsaturated low-plasticity soils which do not have enough soil pore water for a proper EC measurement.
