Temporal and spatial evolution of global major grain trade patterns

The complex and volatile international landscape has significantly impacted global grain supply security. This study uses a complex network analysis model to examine the evolution and trends of the global major grain trade from 1990 to 2020, focusing on network topology, centrality ranking, and community structure. There are three major findings. First, the global major grain trade network has expanded in scale, with a growing emphasis on diversification and balance. During the study period, the United States, Canada, China, and Brazil were the core nodes of the network. Grain-exporting countries were mainly situated in Asia, the Americas, and Europe, and importing countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Second, a significant increase in the number of high centrality countries with high export capacity occurred, benefiting from natural advantages such as fertile land and favorable climates. Third, the main global grain trade network is divided into four communities, with the Americas-Europe community being the largest and most widespread. The formation of the community pattern was influenced by geographic proximity, driven by the core exporting countries. Therefore, the world needs to enhance the existing trade model, promote the multi-polarization of the grain trade network, and establish a global vision for the future community. Countries and regions should participate actively in global grain trade security governance and institutional reform, expand trade links with other countries, and optimize import and export policies to reduce trade risks.

Bio-screening and quantification of methyl paraben in vinegar and coconut juice separated by HPTLC

As a widely used food preservative,methyl paraben was experimentally evidenced with serious hormonelike adverse ***,a high performance thin-layer chromatography platformed bioluminescent bioautography and image analysis for the selective quantification and confirmation of methyl paraben was proposed and validated in vinegar and coconut ***,the detectability of the bioautography to the analyte on different layer materials was estimated,revealing that normal silica gel was the best *** that,the liquid of sample extract and working solution were separated to overcome the background noises due to co-extracted *** separation result was then coupled to the optimized bioautography,enabling instant and straightforward screening of the targeted *** accurate quantification,bioluninescent inhibition pattern caused by the analyte was processed by image analysis,giving useful sensitivity(LOD>16 mg/kg),precision(RSD<10.1%)and accuracy(spike-recovery rate 76.9%-112.2%).Finally,the suspected result was confirmed by determining its MS fingerprint,further strengthening the reliability of screening.

Dynamic changes in physicochemical property,biogenic amines content and microbial diversity during the fermentation of Sanchuan ham

Sanchuan ham is appreciated in Yunnan Province,China,for its characteristic flavor and taste,while the microbial community structure and biogenic amines content remain unclear during fermentation *** this study,we explored the physicochemical property,biogenic amines concentration and microbial diversity of external and internal Sanchuan ham by high-throughput sequencing during the processing of Sanchuan *** showed that the nitrite remained at a stable level of 0.15 mg/kg which was significantly lower than the national health standard safety level of 20 mg/*** addition,compared with fresh hams,the content of total free amino acids in ripe Sanchuan ham has grown 14 folds;sour and bitter were the main tastes of Sanchuan ***,the concentration of cadaverine was the highest of all biogenic amines during the entire fermentation *** the bacterial phyla level,Firmicutes and Actinobacteria were the two main phyla,while at the genus level,Staphylococcus was a significant strain throughout the whole ***,the dry stage has a great impact on the succession change of microbial community ***,the change trends and composition of bacteria in the interior have slight discrepancies with those of the exterior of Sanchuan ham.

Physiological and Transcriptome Analysis Illuminates the Molecular Mechanisms of the Drought Resistance Improved by Alginate Oligosaccharides in Triticum aestivum L.

Alginate oligosaccharides(AOS)enhance drought resistance in wheat(Triticum aestivum L.),but the definite mechanisms remain largely *** physiological and transcriptome responses of wheat seedlings treated with AOS were analyzed under drought stress simulated with polyethylene *** results showed that AOS promoted the growth of wheat seedlings and reduced oxidative damage by improving peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities under drought stress.A total of 10,064 and 15,208 differentially expressed unigenes(DEGs)obtained from the AOS treatment and control samples at 24 and 72 h after dehydration,respectively,were mainly enriched in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites(phenylpropanoid biosynthesis,flavonoid biosynthesis),carbohydrate metabolism(starch and sucrose metabolism,carbon fixation in photosynthetic organisms),lipid metabolism(fatty acid elongation,biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids,alpha-linolenic acid metabolism,cutin,suberine and wax biosynthesis),and signaling transduction *** up-regulated genes were related to,for example,chlorophyll a-b binding protein,amylosynthease,phosphotransferase,peroxidase,phenylalanine ammonia lyase,flavone synthase,glutathione *** molecules(including MAPK,plant hormones,H_(2)O_(2) and calcium)and transcription factors(mainly including NAC,MYB,MYB-related,WRKY,bZIP family members)were involved in the AOS-induced wheat drought *** results obtained in this study help underpin the mechanisms of wheat drought resistance improved by AOS,and provides a theoretical basis for the application of AOS as an environmentally sustainable biological method to improve drought resistance in agriculture.

For sessile plants, gene expression plays a pivotal role in responding to salinity stress by activating or suppressing specific genes. However, our knowledge of genetic variations governing gene expression in response to salt stress remains limited in natural germplasm. Through transcriptome analysis of the Global Mini-Core Rice Collection consisting of a panel of 202 accessions, we identified 22 345 and 27 610expression quantitative trait loci associated with the expression of 7787 and 9361 e Genes under normal and salt-stress conditions, respectively, leveraging the super pan-genome map. Notably, combined with genome-wide association studies, we swiftly pinpointed the potential candidate gene STG5—a major salt-tolerant locus known as q STS5. Intriguingly, STG5 is required for maintaining Na+/K+homeostasis by directly regulating the transcription of multiple members of the Os HKT gene family. Our study sheds light on how genetic variants influence the dynamic changes in gene expression responding to salinity stress and provides a valuable resource for the mining of salt-tolerant genes in the future.

Associations of genome-wide structural variations with phenotypic differences in cross-bred Eurasian pigs

Background During approximately 10,000 years of domestication and selection,a large number of structural variations(SVs)have emerged in the genome of pig breeds,profoundly influencing their phenotypes and the ability to adapt to the local ***(≥50 bp)are widely distributed in the genome,mainly in the form of insertion(INS),mobile element insertion(MEI),deletion(DEL),duplication(DUP),inversion(INV),and translocation(TRA).While studies have investigated the SVs in pig genomes,genome-wide association studies(GWAS)-based on SVs have been rarely *** Here,we obtained a high-quality SV map containing 123,151 SVs from 15 Large White and 15 Min pigs through integrating the power of several SV tools,with 53.95%of the SVs being reported for the first *** high-quality SVs were used to recover the population genetic structure,confirming the accuracy of *** functional SV loci were then identified based on positional effects and breed ***,GWAS were performed for 36 traits by genotyping the screened potential causal loci in the F2 population according to their corresponding genomic *** identified a large number of loci involved in 8 carcass traits and 6 skeletal traits on chromosome 7,with FKBP5 containing the most significant SV locus for almost all *** addition,we found several significant loci in intramuscular fat,abdominal circumference,heart weight,and liver weight,*** We constructed a high-quality SV map using high-coverage sequencing data and then analyzed them by performing GWAS for 25 carcass traits,7 skeletal traits,and 4 meat quality traits to determine that SVs may affect body size between European and Chinese pig breeds.

Trichoderma viride F7 improves peanut performances while remediating cadmium-contaminated soil with microplastics

Microplastics(MPs) and cadmium(Cd) in soil have serious negative impacts on plant growth. As a bioremediator, Trichoderma viride may modulate the impacts of MPs and/or Cd on plant growth and heavy metal uptake. In this study, T. viride F7 was used to treat Cd-contaminated soil with and without the presence of polylactic acid MPs to investigate its effects on peanut growth, Cd uptake efficiency, and soil properties. Results showed that F7 increased soil pH,dissolved organic carbon, cation exchange capacity, microbial biomass nitrogen, and microbial biomass carbon, which resulted in increases of 2.10%–19.83% in peanut biomass and mitigated the negative effects of MPs and Cd on peanut growth. Trichoderma viride F7 reduced the soil bioavailable Cd and plant Cd concentrations by 16.68%–34.20% and 5.37%–25.84%, respectively. Regression path analysis showed that F7 could improve peanut performances by altering soil properties and reducing peanut Cd concentrations in MP-Cd-contaminated soil. Soil fungal community analysis indicated that the microbial community was altered via F7 inoculation, which antagonized Fusarium and promoted peanut growth. This study reveals the mechanisms of F7 in mitigating Cd contamination in the soil with the presence of MPs, which provides new ideas for managing MP-heavy metal-contaminated soil and improving soil health.

Priority effects of forbs arriving early:the role of root interaction and asymmetric competition

Background The priority effect of plant arrival is a key driver of community assembly and ecosystem succession during the restoration of degraded plant communities. However, the significance of the arrival order of different plant functional groups and their interactions with community assemblies remains unclear. Using a phytotron experiment with three fully crossed factors, we investigated the underlying mechanisms of priority effects and their relationships with the biomass and biodiversity effects in mixed plant communities by manipulating the order of arrival of species, isolation of roots, and removal of specific *** The results showed that the strength and direction of priority effects were influenced by arrival order, root interactions, asymmetric competition among species, and their interactions. The identities of early and late-sown species also determined the magnitude of priority effects. The priority effects were stronger in grass-first(24.76%) and legume-first communities(24.48%) than in forb-first communities. The pot biomass of the different priority treatments was highest in grass-first(5.85 g), followed by legume-first(3.94 g) and forb-first(2.48 g). The order of arrival in the mixture significantly affected the net biodiversity effects(P < 0.001), which were driven by dominance effects. The community had lower overall biomass when forbs were sown first, whereas the species grown later had fewer costs with an increased overall net benefit for the resulting *** Our results emphasize that root interactions and asymmetric competition are vital determinants of order-specific priority effects in community assemblies. In addition, the importance of the priority effect of forbs sown first is related to community assembly, which may be a key determinant in successfully establishing a highly diverse community in the early stages of restoration. Promoting grain production through high-standard farmland construction:Evidence in China

Food security is a strategic priority for a country’s economic *** China,high-standard farmland construction(HSFC)is an important initiative to stabilize grain production and increase grain production *** on panel data from 31 sample provinces,autonomous regions,and municipalities in China from 2005–2017,this study explored the impact of HSFC on grain yield using the difference-in-differences(DID)*** results showed that HSFC significantly increased total grain production,which is robust to various *** increased grain yield through three potential ***,it could increase the grain replanting ***,it could effectively reduce yield loss due to droughts and ***,HSFC could strengthen the cultivated land by renovating the low-and medium-yielding *** analysis found that the HSFC farmland showed a significant increase in grain yield only in the main grain-producing areas and balanced *** addition,HSFC significantly increased the yields of rice,wheat,and maize while leading to a reduction in soybean *** findings suggest the government should continue to promote HSFC,improve construction standards,and strictly control the“non-agriculturalization”and“non-coordination”of farmland to increase grain production *** the same time,market mechanisms should be used to incentivize soybean farming,improve returns and stabilize soybean yields.
