Developing organic room-temperature phosphorescence （RTP） materials with a wide range of tunable-emission is significant in expanding the applications of RTP ***,we rationally designed amphiphilic alternating copolymers poly(1,2-bis（4-alkoxyphenyl）ethane-1,2-dione-alt-（ethylene glycol）x)(P（Bz-alt-EGx）) that combined the advantage of alternating benzil and EGxskeleton,and tunable mainchain *** a mainchain conformation ordering assembly （COA） process,P（Bz-alt-EGx） self-assembled into well-defined platelets,and such assemblies emitted blue RTP at ca.425 nm due to the ordered folded-chain conformation and confined *** contrast,traditional self-assembly （TA） of P（Bz-alt-EGx） obtained less ordered aggregates,such as asymmetric worms,vesicles,and rod-like *** resultant less ordered aggregates exhibited yellow-green RTP at ca.550 *** wide-tuning RTP emission in solution （between blue and yellow-green,over125 nm） is realized using the P（Bz-alt-EGx） alternating copolymers under the treatment of different self-assembly *** study uncovers a new strategy to tailor the RTP emission through different self-assembly pathways and holds great promise for the fabrication of advanced optical materials.

Mesoporous WO_3-graphene photocatalyst for photocatalytic degradation of Methylene Blue dye under visible light illumination

advanced oxidation technologies are a friendly environmental approach for the remediation of industrial wastewaters. Here, one pot synthesis of mesoporous WO3 and WO3-graphene oxide（GO） nanocomposites has been performed through the sol–gel method. Then, platinum（Pt） nanoparticles were deposited onto the WO3 and WO3-GO nanocomposite through photochemical reduction to produce mesoporous Pt/WO3 and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites. X-ray diffraction（XRD） findings exhibit a formation of monoclinic and triclinic WO3 phases. Transmission Electron Microscope（TEM） images of Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites exhibited that WO3 nanoparticles are obviously agglomerated and the particle sizes of Pt and WO3 are ~ 10 nm and 20–50 nm, respectively. The mesoporous Pt/WO3 and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites were assessed for photocatalytic degradation of Methylene Blue（MB） as a probe molecule under visible light *** findings showed that mesoporous Pt/WO3, WO3-GO and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites exhibited much higher photocatalytic efficiencies than the pure WO3. The photodegradation rates by mesoporous Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites are 3, 2 and 1.15 times greater than those by mesoporous WO3, WO3-GO, and Pt/WO3, respectively. The key factors of the enhanced photocatalytic performance of Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites could be explained by the highly freedom electron transfer through the synergetic effect between WO3 and GO sheets, in addition to the Pt nanoparticles that act as active sites for O2 reduction, which suppresses the electron hole pair recombination in the Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is the seventh most common cancer worldwide with high mortality *** oral cavity cancers,tongue carcinoma is a very common and aggressive oral cavity *** the implementation of a multimodality treatment regime including surgical intervention,chemo-radiation as well as targeted therapy,tongue carcinoma shows a poor overall 5-year survival pattern,which is attributed to therapy resistance and recurrence of the *** presence of a rare population,i.e.,cancer stem cells(CSCs)within the tumor,are involved in therapy resistance,recurrence,and distant metastasis that results in poor survival *** agents targeting CSCs have been in clinical trials,although they are unable to reach into therapy stage which is due to their failure in trials.A more detailed understanding of the CSCs is essential for identifying efficient *** signaling pathways,which are differentially regulated in the CSCs,are one of the promising targets to manipulate the CSCs that would provide an improved *** this review,we summarize the current understanding of molecular signaling associated with the maintenance and regulation of CSCs in tongue squamous cell carcinoma in order to emphasize the need of the hour to get a deeper understanding to unravel novel targets.

An active RUNX1-ID1/ID3 axis governs differentiation and chemoresistance of cancer stem cell population in epithelial ovarian cancer cells

Progression,relapse,and therapy resistance are the most challenging features of cancer therapy that have been postulated to be driven by Cancer Stem Cell(CSC)*** enigmatic subpopulation of cancer cells has therefore emerged as promising therapeutic *** earlier reported enrichment of CSC-like side population(SP)with increasing resistance towards Cisplatin and Paclitaxel either alone or in combination in epithelial ovarian cancer(EOC)*** SP population is a small proportion of the total population of cancer cells characterised with high expression of drug transporters,a unique feature of stem cells and thereby can be isolated through their efflux properties of DNA binding *** the bulk non-SP(NSP)population of the cancer cells lack overexpression of the drug transporters and thus can be identified as the dye containing *** this study,we show that increased expression of Runt related transcription factor 1(RUNX1)maintains undifferentiated state of CSC-like SP cells through upregulation of inhibitors of DNA binding/differentiation genes(ID1 and ID3)in late cisplatinpaclitaxel resistant *** RUNX1 expression was found to correlate with decreased median overall survival and disease-free survival in The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA)data set of high grade serous ovarian cancer(HGSOC)*** protein-protein interaction network analysis of 397 upregulated genes in RUNX1-high samples of TCGA data show significant enrichment of pathways known to negatively regulate CSC *** RUNX1 inhibition not only induces CSC differentiation but also downregulates anti-apoptotic protein BCL2 in both SP and NSP cells and potentiates cytotoxic effects of Cisplatin-Paclitaxel in chemoresistant EOC *** of BCL2 through Venetoclax treatment,a small molecule BH3 mimic,sensitized these cells to platinum taxol ***,our data reveal new regulatory roles by RUNX1 to modulate CSC differentiation via ID

The E3 ubiquitin ligase,carboxyl terminus of heat shock protein 70(Hsp70)interacting protein(CHIP),also functions as a co-chaperone and plays a crucial role in the protein quality control *** this study,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effect of overexpressed CHIP on Alzheimer’s *** used an adeno-associated virus vector that can cross the blood-brain barrier to mediate CHIP overexpression in APP/PS1 mouse *** overexpression significantly ameliorated the performance of APP/PS1 mice in the Morris water maze and nest building tests,reduced amyloid-βplaques,and decreased the expression of both amyloid-βand phosphorylated *** also alleviated the concentration of microglia and astrocytes around *** APP/PS1 mice of a younger age,CHIP overexpression promoted an increase in ADAM10 expression and inhibitedβ-site APP cleaving enzyme 1,insulin degrading enzyme,and neprilysin *** of HSP70 and HSP40,which have functional relevance to CHIP,were also *** nuclei transcriptome sequencing in the hippocampus of CHIP overexpressed mice showed that the lysosomal pathway and oligodendrocyte-related biological processes were up-regulated,which may also reflect a potential mechanism for the neuroprotective effect of *** research shows that CHIP effectively reduces the behavior and pathological manifestations of APP/PS1 ***,overexpression of CHIP could be a beneficial approach for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

Characterization and optimization of EPSproducing and diesel oil-degrading Ochrobactrum anthropi MP3 isolated from refinery wastewater

Petroleum refinery wastewater （PRW） containing hydrocarbon is highly toxic to the environment and the surrounding ecosystem. Proper treatment of the PRW effluent is necessary to remove the pollutants before discharge. Bioremediation is considered to be a promising approach as it is eco- friendly and efficient. The exopolysaccharide （EPS） produced by the O. anthropi acts as a bioemulsifier and showed the highest emulsification activity of 60% on diesel. An EPS yield of about 0.42 g/L was obtained under optimized conditions. The carbohydrate and protein content of the EPS was found to be 71.1% and 19.7% respectively, showing the glycoprotein nature. The structural properties of EPS were analyzed by FT-IR and 1H NMR. The batch degradation of oil in PRW by O. anthropi was studied gravimetrically, and showed about 53% degradation in 7 days, indicating the strong ability of the isolated strain to degrade the hydrocarbons in PRW.

Understanding the molecular mechanisms of cancer prevention by dietary phytochemicals:From experimental models to clinical trials

Chemoprevention is one of the cancer prevention approaches wherein natural/synthetic agent(s) are prescribed with the aim to delay or disrupt multiple pathways and processes involved at multiple steps, i.e., initiation, promotion, and progression of cancer. Amongst environmental chemopreventive compounds, diet/beverage-derived components are under evaluation, because of their long history of exposure to humans, high tolerability, low toxicity, and reported biological activities. This compilation briefly covers and compares the available evidence on chemopreventive efficacy and probable mechanism of chemoprevention by selected dietary phytochemicals(capsaicin, curcumin, diallyl sulphide, genistein, green/black tea polyphenols, indoles, lycopene, phenethyl isocyanate, resveratrol, retinoids and tocopherols) in experimental systems and clinical trials. All the dietary phytochemicals covered in this review have demonstrated chemopreventive efficacy against spontaneous or carcinogen-induced experimental tumors and/or associated biomarkers and processes in rodents at several organ sites. The observed anti-initiating, anti-promoting and anti-progression activity of dietary phytochemicals in carcinogen-induced experimental models involve phytochemical-mediated redox changes, modulation of enzymes and signaling kinases resulting to effects on multiple genes and cell signaling pathways. Results from clinical trials using these compounds have not shown them to be chemopreventive. This may be due to our:(1) inability to reproduce the exposure conditions, i.e., levels, complexity, other host and lifestyle factors; and(2) lack of understanding about the mechanisms of action and agent-mediated toxicity in several organs and physiological processes in the host. Current research efforts in addressing the issues of exposure conditions, bioavailability, toxicity and the mode of action of dietary phytochemicals may help address the reason for observed mismatch that may ultimately lead

Sperm characteristics and ultrastructure of testes of rats after long-term treatment with the methanol subfraction of Carica papaya seeds

The contraceptive efficacy of Carica papaya seeds after short-term evaluation has been well established. We have examined the safety and mechanism of contraception in rats after long-term treatment with the methanol subfraction （MSF） of C. papaya seeds. The test substance was administered orally to the male albino rats （n = 40） at 50 mg per kg body weight each day for 360 days. Control animals （n = 40） received olive oil as a vehicle. Recovery was assessed up to 120 days after treatment withdrawal. Sperm parameters, serum testosterone levels, fertility, histology and ultrastructure of the testis, haematology and serum clinical chemistry were evaluated to establish the safety and efficacy of the test substance. Safety of long-term treatment was evidenced by unaltered health status, organ weight, haematology and clinical chemistry, and by an increase in body weight. The mechanism of contraception was shown by reduction in nuclear and cytoplasmic volume, normal nuclear characteristics and vacuolization in the cytoplasmic organelles of the Sertoli cells, as well as nuclear degeneration in spermatocytes and spermatids indicating disturbed spermatogenesis. Leydig cells were normal. Initial effects were observed in Sertoli cells at 60 days of treatment. Spermatocytes and spermatids were affected after 120-240 days of treatment. A significant decline in sperm count and viability, total inhibition of sperm motility, increased numbers of sperm abnormalities, normal serum testosterone levels and 100% sterility were evident after 60 days of treatment. All the altered parameters, including percent fertility, were restored to control level 120 days after treatment withdrawal. It is concluded that the MSF is safe for long-term treatment and the mechanism of contraception is shown by its effect on spermatid differentiation in the testis, possibly mediated by the Sertoli cell factors.

Adult reference values of the computerized diplopia test

AIM： To estimate the adult reference values for measured deviations by a computerized diplopia test and testify the ***： Totally 391 participants were recruited and taken the computerized diplopia test. The plots and amplitude of deviations were recorded. The differences in different gender, age and visual acuity groups were analyzed respectively. Of 30 subjects were enrolled to testify the interobserver reliability. Another 46 subjects（including 26 normal subjects and 20 patients） were taken the test and theirs deviations were recorded to testify the validity of the reference ***： The max horizontal and vertical deviations were 2.55° and 0.76° with normal corrected visual acuity while 3.88° and 1.46° for subjects with poor corrected vision. The differences between age groups was insignificant（Z =3.615, 4.758; P =0.461, 0.313 for horizontal and vertical respectively）. The max horizontal deviation of female was smaller than male（Z =-2.177; P =0.029）,but the difference in max vertical deviation was insignificant（Z =-1.296; P =0.195）. The mean difference between observers were both-0.1°, with 95% confidence limits（CI） of-1.4° and 1.6° in max horizontal deviations while-2.1° and 1.8° in max vertical deviation. The mean deviation of 26 normal subjects was 1.02° ±0.84° for horizontal and 0.47° ±0.30° for vertical which both within the range of reference values. The mean deviation of 20 patients was 13.51°±11.69° for horizontal and 8.34°±8.58°for vertical which both beyond the reference ***： The max amplitude of horizontal and vertical deviation is pointed as the numerical parameters of computerized diplopia test. The reference values are different between normal corrected visual acuity and poor corrected vision. These values may useful for evaluating patients with diplopia in veriety conditions during clinical practice.
