The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of carrot leaf powder in the diet on reproductive and growth characteristics in rabbits. Thirty sexually matured rabbits does of 8 months old, 3.00 to 3.20 kg, were divided into three groups of 10 rabbits each, which were comparable in terms of body weight. Throughout the experiment, the rabbits of group 1 (control group) were fed ad libitum with a feed not containing carrot leaf powder (control ration), while those of groups 2 and 3 received the control ration supplemented with carrot leaf powder in concentrations of 0.5% and 1% respectively. Data was collected on feed intake, weight gain, receptivity, fertility, gestation length of does, litter size, weight, viability and sex ratio of the young rabbits till 5 weeks post-partum. There was no significant (P > 0.05) difference in the fertility rate, gestation duration and sex ratio of the kits with reference to the control. Litter size at birth was not significantly (P > 0.05) influenced in does fed diets containing carrot leaf powder compared to the control. However, the reversed effects were observed at five weeks post-partum. The live weight of weaned kits and weight gain of rabbit does at birth were significantly (P < 0.05) increased in treated rabbits compared to the control. The supplementation of carrot leaf powder in feed can improve production performance in female rabbits, through their antioxidant activities thanks to their various components, thus fighting against oxidative stress effects to which animals are exposed both from endogenous and environmental sources.

Petrological and Geochemical Studies on the Si-Undersaturated Rocks of the Mount Cameroon: Genesis of the Camptonite and Nephelinite at the Cameroon Hot Line

The Cameroon hot line is dominated by magmatic rocks. The variations of magma and chemistry are generally due to the difference of physical conditions and chemistry in the magma source region during the ascent of magma. The Mt Etinde and the Mt Cameroon, both edifices belong to the Cameroon Hot line, have a particularity some rare rocks such as camptonite and nephelinite. The relationship between the silica undersaturated rocks in the both edifices is characterized by the lateral variation appear through the petrography of the different rocks. The concerned geochemical data allow to compare the Mount Etinde nephelinite and Mount Cameroon camptonite where the differentiation process reflects geochemical affinities from a basaltic magma source on the Cameroon hot line. The compatible elements between the Mount Etinde nephelinite and the Mount Cameroon camptonite and basalt correlate with the difference in modal compositions of mineral phases. The lateral variation of major and trace element contents in the Mount Cameroon camptonite and Mount Etinde nephelinite seem to be related to the difference in the fractional crystallization processes of mineral phases, the difference in the partial melting processes and the metasomatism source rich in volatile. The silica-undersaturated character of the camptonite and nephelinite could be attributed to assimilation of carbonate rocks within depth-level magma chambers. Trace element AFC modelling revealed that the parental magmas of both edifice volcanic rocks were mostly affected by fractional crystallisation coupled with metasomatism process in Ca rich source.

Bioactive compounds in plants are associated with the reduction of chronic diseases. The free radical scavenging activity of different extracts of a medicinal plant, Sclerocarya birrea, has been investigated using the DPPH test, ABTS test and FRAP. Three extracts were prepared from the leaves and bark: hydro-methanolic, hydro-acetonic and aqueous. Phytochemical screening was carried out the standard methods followed by the determination of the polyphenol by Folin-Ciocalteu method. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the STATISTICA 7.1 and statistical significance was set at p 0.05. Evolution of percent inhibition (PI) as well as the IC50 of the extracts was obtained using the Origin Pro 8.5 software and Microsoft Excel. The results show that the bark extracts

Researches for natural antioxidants that play an important role in the prevention of diseases linked to free radicals have increased in recent years. In this study, antioxidant activity of Bauhinia rufescens Lam which is a medicinal plant was investigated. The methanol extract, acetone extract and water extract of leaf and trunk bark had antioxidant activity. Three methods were used: 2,2-diphenyl-1picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2’-Azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzoth iazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) and ferric ion reducing power (FRAP) by spectrophotometry. Phytochemical screening was carried out followed by the quantification of the total phenolic by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the STATISTICA 7.1 software revealed significant differences (p 0.05). Percentage inhibition (PI) and IC50 of the extracts were obtained using the OriginPro 8.5 software. These tests show that the bark is as rich in total phenolic as the leaves. The border of Cameroon and Chad is characterized by a Precambrian basement straddling the Touboro-Ba?bokoum area;this basement is made up of gneiss, amphibolite and granitoids (granite, syenite, granodiorite). The studied rocks display high-K calk-alcalcaline to shoshonitic characteristic. Granitoids are metaluminous. Rocks under study derived from partial melts from metabasaltic to metatonalitic sources, and partial melts from metagreywackes. They shear the same origin as many granitoids describe westward in the Meiganga area and west Cameroon. This shows that the basement straddling the Touboro-Ba?bokoum area belongs to the adamawa-Yadé Domain of the Central African Fold Belt.

Highly prized by consumers, watermelon is rich in water, but also in micronutrients including lycopene, pigment responsible for the red color. It is also a powerful antioxidant which has many virtues including the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. The transformation into nectar of watermelons combined with treatment could cause several modifications including the alteration of coloring. The Baïbokoum-Touboro-Ngaoundaye area is located in the adamoua-Yade domain of the Pan-African Fold Belt in Central Africa. The present work concerns the petrographic and geochemical study. The study area is made up of plutonic rocks including two amphibole granites, four biotite and muscovite granites, two syenites and one monzonite sample. These rocks have a granular porphyroid texture, with a mylonitic tendency. The primary paragenesis consists of Opx + Cpx + Amp + Bt + Pl + Or + Mic + Qtz + Ap + Sph + Zr and the secondary paragenesis consisting of Ch + Op. Plutonic rocks are shoshonitic to calc-alkaline with a strong potassic affinity. The REE profiles of these rocks show a negative anomaly of Eu in the granites and no Eu anomaly in syenites and monzonite (syeno-diorite). Multielement spectra of plutonic rocks present a negative anomaly in Nb-Ta and Ti. Fractional crystallization is the process that made these rocks of study area. These rocks are placed in a subduction to syn-collisional (VAG + Syn-COLG) and of intraplate granitoids (WPG) environment.

Introduction: Congenital heart disease is a major cause of children’s death. In Niger, despite the frequency of these pathologies, very few studies have been carried out on associated mortality in a paediatric environment. The objective of this work was to look for the risk factors of children with congenital heart disease’s death in Niamey. Patients and Method: It is about a cross-sectional study for descriptive and analytical purposes in children aged from 0 to 15 years. Carriers of congenital heart disease followed from January 2016 to July 2021 in two national hospitals in Niamey. The variable depends and the main ante was the occurrence of deaths (yes or no). The explanatory variables were related to the characteristics of the patients, the type of heart disease and management among others. Chi’s tests2 Pearson’s or Fischer’s exact test were used (P Results: During the period of the research, 514 cases of congenital heart disease were studied, including 132 deaths (25.68%). The average age of patients was 14.64 months [10 days - 15 years]. The sex ratio was 1.08. The most common reason for consultation was respiratory distress that was found in 74.90% of patients. Interventricular communication (IVC) and intear communication (CIA) were the most found type of heart disease with 36.53% and 20.44% of cases respectively. Only 9.54% of patients (n = 48) had received surgical management. The risk factors associated with mortality were pulmonary arterial hypertension (54.17%), pulmonary disease (44.55%) and the presence of anemia (63.16%) [OR > 1;p Conclusion: Congenital heart diseases remain an important cause of death among children in Niger. The pulmonary arterial hypertension and the associated comorbidities such as broncho-pulmonary diseases were the main associated factors. In the meantime, an optimal technical management of these factors will help to reduce this mortality.
