Fengchi (GB 20) is a point of the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang. It is commonly used in clinical practice. According to the literature of traditional Chinese medicine, Fengchi (GB 20) can be used to treat many diseases, especially for the disorders caused by pathogenic wind. The indications include common cold, headache, cervical spondylosis, trigeminal neuralgia, hypertension, apoplexy, neurasthenia, epilepsy, optic atrophy, tinnitus, myopia, and painful heel etc. The viewpoints of different schools varies on the needling angle and depth at Fengchi (GB 20). Perpendicularly puncturing 0.3-0.7cun deep is recorded in most of the ancient books. Puncturing to a depth of 1.2 cun is mentioned in Fundamentals of acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸资生经) and Compendium of acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成). Jiang Yijun, a modern famous acupuncturist, holds that the depth of needle insertion at Fengchi (GB 20) should be varied in different individuals and different diseases. In general, deep puncture should be adopted for the disease in deep location, shallow puncture for the disease in shallow area, and tapping with plum-blossom needle for the disease on the skin. These will be introduced below.

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effects of the qi-regulating massotherapy (通脉调气推拿法) for treatment of tonic headache. Methods: According to different clinical types, 150 cases of tonic headache were treated by the qi-regulating massotherapy. Evaluations were done according to the scores for physiology, behavior, intensity of pain, and the therapeutic effects. Results: After treatment, the total score in the 150 cases significantly decreased as compared with that before treatment (Pmassotherapy is indicated for all types of tonic headache with obvious therapeutic effects.

Objective. To investigate the effect of acupuncture or moxibustion at acupoint Geshu （BL 17） on raising leukocyte and promoting marrow proliferation. Methods.. Wister rats were selected to establish the leukopenia and immuno-suppression model by intraperitoneal injection of cytoxan （CTX）. After they were grouped and treated, leukocyte and marrow karyocyte were counted in different phases to evaluate the effect of acupuncture or moxibustion at acupoint Geshu （BL 17） on raising leukocyte and promoting marrow hematopoiesis. Results. acupuncture or moxibustion at acupoint Geshu （BL 17） and routine western medicine could all significantly raise leukocyte and increase marrow karyocyte. The curative effect was better in moxibustion group than in acupuncture group and in routine western medicine group （P〈 0.05）. Conclusion. Moxibustion at acupoint Geshu （BL 17） can markedly raise peripheral blood leukocyte and marrow karyocyte of the leucopenia model in rats.

The endogenous free radical scavenger superoxide dismutase (SOD) and blood catalase (CAT) in 2 groups of patients with prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc and cervical spondylopathy were lower than that of the healthy control group, while the -SH reflecting the metabolic disturbance of free radical was higher. After massotherapy, blood SOD and CAT were increased, while lipid peroxide (LPO), -SH in urine were decreased, demon-strating that there are distinct parallel relationships existing in the changes of these enzymes in blood and urine.

Purpose: To investigate the curative effect of massotherapy plus acupoint pressing and functional exercise on scapulohumeral ***: Forty-five patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis were selected and treated by massotherapy plus acupoint pressing and functional ***: Recovery occurred in 32 cases, marked effectiveness in 11 cases, effectiveness in 2 cases and ineffectiveness in 0 case, the total effective rate being 100%.Conclusion: massotherapy plus acupoint pressing and functional exercise is an effective method for treating scapulohumeral periarthritis.
