Effects of Electroacupuncture on Learning,Memory and Formation System of Free Radicals in Brain Tissues of Vascular Dementia Model Rats

In order to observe the regulative effect of electro-acupuncture on the formation system of free radicals in the brain tissues and learning and memory in vascular dementia (VD) model rats, the Morris's water labyrinth was used for testing the learning ability and memory in VD model rats made by 4-vessel occlusion method, and the activities or contents of nitric oxide (NO), NO synthase (NOS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) were determined. Results showed that the mean escape latency in the electro-acupuncture group was markedly reduced in place test, and the times swam the place of the plate-form in the original plate-form quadrant were significantly more than those in the rest three quadrants in spatia1 probe test as compared with the model group. In the electro-acupuncture group and the nimodipine group the contents of NO and MDA and the activity of NOS were decreased, while the activities of SOD and GSH-Px were increased. It is indicated that electro-acupuncture can modulate the production and clearance of free radicals, and improve the ability of learning and memory of the VD model rats.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) at acupoints on the pericardium meridian on the expression of phosphorylated Akt(p-Akt) protein in rat myocardium after ischemia and ***: Seventy Wistar rats were evenly randomized into seven groups: the sham operation group(group A), ischemia-reperfusion model Ⅰgroup(group B), ischemia-reperfusion model Ⅱgroup(group C), EA at Neiguan(PC 6) group(group D), EA at Ximen(PC 4) group(group E), EA at Hegu(LI 4) group(group F), and LY294002 + EA at Neiguan(PC 6) group(group G). All processes were monitored by electrocardiography. In group A, the left anterior descending coronary artery was only threaded without ligation for 100 min. In group B,the left anterior descending coronary artery was ligated for 40 min and reperfused for 60 min. The left anterior descending coronary artery in group C was ligated for 40 min and reperfused for 100 *** D, E, and F received EA for 20 min before undergoing ischemia for 40 min, and then received EA for 20 min before undergoing reperfusion for 60 min. Before modeling, group G was injected with LY294002(0.3 mg/kg) into the tail vein, and then underwent the same intervention as the other EA groups. After reperfusion, myocardial tissue from the left cardiac ventricle was collected to enable Western blot analysis of the p-Akt level, and analysis of electrocardiographic ***: In groups B and C, electrocardiography showed obvious elevation of the ST-segment Ⅱlead(ECG-STⅡ), while the ECG-STⅡvalues were significantly lower in groups D, E, and G(P < 0.01). The p-Akt levels in groups D and E were significantly greater than those in groups B and C(P < 0.01).Compared with all other groups, group G showed a significantly different expression of p-Akt(P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: The expression of p-Akt protein in cardiomyocytes was significantly greater in rats that were injected with LY294002 and received EA at Ximen(PC 4) compared with all other *** su

Bee venom(BV),one of the most commonly encountered types of animal venom,consists of a mixture of chemical agents that cause allergic reactions in the human body.⑴BV therapy,in which BV is exploited for medicinal purposes,is available worldwide,mainly used in Asia,Eastern Europe,and South America.(2)BV therapy has been applied to treat a diverse set of diseases including various musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism,arthralgia,chronic recalcitrant neuralgia,(3-5)Parkinson's disease,(6,7)postherpetic neuralgia,(8)and morphea.(9)Although the therapeutic utility of BV has been demonstrated,extensive studies regarding the safety of BV as a therapeutic agent have identified potential side effects,ranging from minor skin reactions that typically resolve over several days to severe life-threatening immune responses such as anaphylaxis.

Objective: To investigate the effects of electroacupuncture(EA) on endolymphatic hydrops(EH) and the regulation of arginine vasopressin(AVP)-aquaporin-2(AQP2) pathway in guinea pigs. Methods: EH was induced in male guinea pigs by an intraperitoneal injection of AVP. For the treatment, EA was delivered to Baihui(GV 20) and Tinggong(SI 19) acupoints, once per day for 10 consecutive days. In histomorphological studies, cochlear hydrops degree was evaluated by hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining, and then the ratio of scala media(SM) area to SM + scala vestibuli(SV) area(R value) was calculated. In mechanical studies, a comparison of plasma AVP(p-AVP) concentrations, cyclic adenosine monophosphate(cAMP) levels, vasopressin type 2 receptor(V2R) and AQP2 mRNA expressions in the cochlea were compared among groups. Results: EA significantly reduced cochlear hydrops in guinea pigs(P=0.001). EA significantly attenuated the AVPinduced up-regulation of p-AVP concentrations(P=0.006), cochlear c AMP levels(P=0.003) and AQP2 mRNA expression(P=0.016), and up-regulated the expression of V2R mRNA(P=0.004) in the cochlea. Conclusion: The dehydrating effect of EA might be associated with its inhibition of AVP-AQP2 pathway activation.

OBJECTIVE:To explore the underlying mechanism of acupuncture on nerve repair by investigating its effect on the differentiation of glial cells and the repair of glial ***:Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated to three groups:normal group,model group,and acupuncture *** was applied at Renzhong(GV26),Baihui(GV20),Fengfu(GV16),Yamen(GV15)and Hegu(LI4)within 12 h after TBI modeling with a frequency of one session per day for 4 *** assessment,hematoxylin and eosin staining,immunofluorescence detection,and magnetic resonance imaging scanning were performed on days 3,7,14,and 28 after modeling of traumatic brain injury(TBI).RESULTS:acupuncture promoted the proliferation of glial cells and glial scars at an early stage but inhibited the proliferation of glial cells and glial scars at a late *** observations and immunofluorescence histochemistry showed that the morphology of the perilesional cortex in the acupuncture group was improved and the number of neurons was increased when compared with the model *** lesion size of ipsilateral brain parenchyma in the acupuncture group was smaller than in the model group on days 7,14,and 28(Pacupuncture might have a bidirectional regulatory effect on glial scar repair after TBI by promoting the proliferation of glial cells and glial scars to limit the injured area and relieve nerve injury during the early stages,and by inhibiting glial scar hyperplasia to benefit the regeneration and repair of neurons and axons and promote neurological function recovery during the later stages.
