Background There is increasing epidemiological evidence supporting the association between onchocerciasis and seizures, reinforcing the concept of onchocerciasis-associated epilepsy (OAE). The aim of this paper is to provide an update on the new knowledge about OAE and to propose recommendations to the World Health Organization how to address this public health *** text During the 2nd International Workshop on OAE held on 19-21 September, 2023, in Antwerp, Belgium, participants recognised OAE as a substantial yet neglected public health problem, particularly in areas of sub-Saharan Africa where onchocerciasis remains hyperendemic. Evidence from prospective population-based studies suggest that strengthening onchocerciasis elimination efforts leads to a significant reduction of OAE incidence. There is a need to validate an OAE case definition to estimate the burden of disease and identify onchocerciasis-endemic areas requiring intensification of onchocerciasis elimination programmes and integration of epilepsy care. It is expected that raising awareness about OAE will boost the population uptake of ivermectin. The implementation of a community-based epilepsy treatment programme offering free anti-seizure medications (ASMs) has shown high effectiveness in reducing the frequency of seizures and improving the overall quality of life of people with *** To reduce OAE burden, enhanced collaboration between onchocerciasis and mental health programmes at community, national, and international levels is required. Urgent efforts are needed to ensure the uninterrupted provision of free ASMs in onchocerciasis-endemic areas. Furthermore, OAE should be included in the quantification of the onchocerciasis disease burden.

Internet access, usage and trust among medical professionals in China:A web-based survey

Objectives:Social media has changed methods of communication in the medical *** part of a"doctor as communicator"strategy,Chinese medical professionals are actively embracing social media,which may have an impact on tense physician-patient relationships in *** paper aims to examine a pattern of Internet access,Internet usage,and trust among Chinese medical professionals and further explores the reasons for these relationships on an individual ***:A web-based questionnaire was designed,based on a media literacy model,and was divided into 3 dimensions:public information,general medical information,and specialty *** a two-round pilot study,1001 physicians were ***,4 interviewees were chosen to participate in in-depth interviews and content analysis was *** were analyzed using SPSS ***:Findings showed that new media has become a major approach for medical professionals in China to retrieve and get access to various ***,they still trust traditional media(n=1001,Paccess,usage,and trust were positively correlated(r-0.185-0.344,P<0.01).Regarding usage habits,47.66%of the participating physicians would practice science popularization through their new media accounts and 71.23%would forward approved health information within their professional realm.A validated instrument can be provided for further related ***:Science popularization is a specific usage of new media among Chinese medical professionals,through which they have achieved new authority and empowered communication because of *** some extent,physician-patient relationships in China can be improved because this online interaction is conducive to building harmonious and lasting offline physician-patient relationships.

The Effect of WeChat Usage on Upward Social Comparison in Undergraduates

To explore the status of undergraduates’WeChat usage and upward social comparison,and analyze the relationship between the above two *** 754 WeChat undergraduates were selected through poster recruitment from 5 colleges in Guangdong *** were investigated with access Frequency to Social Networking Site Scale(AFSNSS),Upward Social Comparison Subscale of Iowa-Nwtherlands Comparison Orientation Measure(INCOM-USCS).The score of overall emotional engagement(OEE)of AFSNSS and the total standard score of INCOM–USCS(TSSI-U)were(22.41±4.70)and(0±4.5),*** correlation between WeChat frequency and TSSI-U was not ***-U was significantly positively correlated with the score of OEE and other items of AFSNSS(r=0.161~0.413,P<0.01).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that The scores of item 1,7and 8 of AFSNSS,as well as family economic status,grade ranking of academic performance(GRAP)and the purpose of WeChat use were postively correlated with TSSI-U(β=.104~.234,P<.05).Class cadre or not and origin were negatively correlated with TSSI-U(β=-.089,-.130,P<.05).Conclusion:It suggests that WeChat usage may be a related factor for undergraduates’upward social comparison.
