Evaluation of an ocean data assimilation system for chinese marginal seas with a focus on the South China Sea

Data assimilation is a powerful tool to improve ocean forecasting by reducing uncertainties in forecast initial ***,an ocean data assimilation system based on the ensemble optimal interpolation(EnOI) scheme and HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model(HYCOM) for marginal seas around China was *** system can assimilate both satellite observations of sea surface temperature(SST) and along-track sea level anomaly(SLA) *** purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of the *** experiments were performed,which spanned a 3-year period from January 1,2004 to December 30,2006,with and without data *** data assimilation results were promising,with a positive impact on the modeled *** SST and SLA were clearly improved in terms of bias and root mean square error over the whole *** addition,the assimilations provided improvements in some regions to the surface field where mesoscale processes are not well simulated by the *** with surface drifter trajectories showed that assimilated SST and SLA also better represent surface currents,with drifter trajectories fitting better to the contours of SLA field than that without *** forecasting capacity of this assimilation system was also evaluated through a case study of a birth-and-death process of an anticyclone eddy in the Northern South China Sea(NSCS),in which the anticyclone eddy was successfully hindcasted by the assimilation *** study suggests the data assimilation system gives reasonable descriptions of the near-surface ocean state and can be applied to forecast mesoscale ocean processes in the marginal seas around China.

An improved transmitting multi-layer thin-film filter

The angular resolutions of the phase-shifted Rugate thin-film filters, the ultra-narrow bandpass filters, and a cutoff filter-combination device are discussed, and the electric field distributions of the filters are compared. The results show that the three transmitting multi-layer thin-film filters can realize the same angular resolution, but the electric field in the cutoff filter-combination device is the lowest. Because a lower electric-field distribution corresponds to a higher laser-induced damage threshold of the thin films, the cutoff filter-combination device may replace the traditional spatial filters in high power laser systems.

The eco-civilization system constitutes an important part of the system of socialism with chinese characteristics. In order to achieve harmonious coexistence between man and nature, it is required to not only uphold and improve the eco-civilization system, but also give full play to the advantages of China’s socialist system and governance system to ensure that the eco-civilization system is effectively implemented; meanwhile, it is important to apply ecological laws in a scientific manner to continuously develop and improve the system of socialism with chinese characteristics. Ecological laws function as the scientific basis for the building of ecological systems and ecological governance. Nature-based Solutions(NbS) demand the guarantee of ecological system and improvement of ecological governance capacity. While adhering to and perfecting the eco-civilization system, it is also needed to continuously advance the modernization of ecological governance capacity.

Kinetic and Available Potential Energy Transport during the Stratospheric Sudden Warming in January 2009

The local features of transient kinetic energy and available potential energy were investigated using ECMWF （European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts） Interim Reanalysis data for the stratospheric sudden warming （SSW） event of January 2009. The Western Europe high plays important roles in the propagation of the energy from North America to Eurasian. When the Western Europe high appeared and shifted eastward, energy conversions increased and energy propagated from North America to Eurasian as a form of interaction energy flow. The baroclinic conversion between transient-eddy kinetic energy （Ke） and transient-eddy available potential energy （Ae） and the horizontal advection of geopotential height were approximately one order of magnitude less than Ke and Ae generation terms. So, these terms were less important to this SSW event.

Investigation of Some MHD Events in the SUNIST Spherical Tokamak

Internal reconnection event （IRE）, which is characterized by a perturbation in plasma current Ip, loop voltage Vloop, Hα radiation and magnetic perturbation dBp, was observed in the SUNIST experiment. It is found that, the fluctuation before IREs is characterized by a structure of m= 2/n = 1, then changes to m = 4/n = 1 during the IREs; and, after IREs, the mode number changes to m = 3/n = 1. An analysis in the evolution of equilibrium parameters during IREs shows that a positive spike appears in the evolution of the plasma＇s elongation and a negative spike in the poloidal beta of plasma. A collapse in the pressure profile, corresponding to the occurrence of IREs, is also found.

Application of an Al-doped zinc oxide subcontact layer on vanadium-compensated 6H–SiC photoconductive switches

Al-doped ZnO thin film （AZO） is used as a subcontact layer in 6H-SiC photoconductive semiconductor switches （PCSSs） to reduce the on-state resistance and optimize the device structure. Our photoconductive test shows that the onstate resistance of lateral PCSS with an n＋-AZO subcontact layer is 14.7% lower than that of PCSS without an n＋-AZO subcontact layer. This occurs because a heavy-doped AZO thin film can improve Ohmic contact properties, reduce contact resistance, and alleviate Joule heating. Combined with the high transparance characteristic at 532 nm of AZO film, vertical structural PCSS devices are designed and their structural superiority is discussed. This paper provides a feasible route for fabricating high performance SiC PCSS by using conductive and transparent ZnO-based materials.

The impact of energy price fl uctuation on the macro economy is a hot issue that is continuously concerned by the academic community,but few literature have paid attention to the impact of energy price fl uctuation on housing price and the financial risks that may *** on the data of cities at and above the prefecture level in China,this paper empirically examines the impact of energy price fl uctuation on the price fl uctuation of the domestic real estate,and analyzes its infl uencing mechanism and transmission *** results show that changes of energy price will significantly affect the fl uctuation of domestic real estate price,and it is more obvious in large cities and *** price affect the demand for housing through changes of interest rate levels on the one hand,and the supply of the real estate market through the cost of housing construction on the other hand,which leads to housing price fl *** a series of robustness tests,the results are still *** the same time,the effect is asymmetric,that is,higher energy price increases the fl uctuation of house price,but the impact of falling energy price is not ***,when preventing real estate market risks,energy price should be considered as a forward-looking indicator to focus on,and the regulation and control policies of the real estate market should be scientifically *** paper not only provides a new perspective on the mechanism of housing price formation,but also enriches the research on the interconnection between energy and financial markets.

Indium bump array fabrication on small CMOS circuit for flip-chip bonding

We demonstrate a novel method for indium bump fabrication on a small CMOS circuit chip that is to be flip-chip bonded with a GaAs/A1GaAs multiple quantum well spatial light modulator. A chip holder with a via hole is used to coat the photoresist for indium bump lift-off. The 1000 μm-wide photoresist edge bead around the circuit chip can be reduced to less than 500 μm, which ensures the integrity of the indium bump array. 64 - 64 indium arrays with 20 μm-high, 30 μm-diameter bumps are successfully formed on a 5 - 6.5 mm^2 CMOS chip.

OBJECTIVE: To help researchers selecting appropriate data mining models to provide better evidence for the clinical practice of Traditional chinese Medicine(TCM) diagnosis and ***: Clinical issues based on data mining models were comprehensively summarized from four significant elements of the clinical studies:symptoms, symptom patterns, herbs, and *** problems were further generalized to determine the relevant factors of the performance of data mining models, e.g. data type, samples, parameters, variable labels. Combining these relevant factors, the TCM clinical data features were compared with regards to statistical characters and informatics properties. Data models were compared simultaneously from the view of applied conditions and suitable ***: The main application problems were the inconsistent data type and the small samples for the used data mining models, which caused the inappropriate results, even the mistake results. These features, i.e. advantages, disadvantages, satisfied data types, tasks of data mining, and the TCM issues, were summarized and ***: By aiming at the special features of different data mining models, the clinical doctors could select the suitable data mining models to resolve the TCM problem.

Comparison between iterative wavefront control algorithm and direct gradient wavefront control algorithm for adaptive optics system

Among all kinds of wavefront control algorithms in adaptive optics systems, the direct gradient wavefront control algorithm is the most widespread and common method. This control algorithm obtains the actuator voltages directly from wavefront slopes through pre-measuring the relational matrix between deformable mirror actuators and Hartmann wavefront sensor with perfect real-time characteristic and stability. However, with increasing the number of sub-apertures in wavefront sensor and deformable mirror actuators of adaptive optics systems, the matrix operation in direct gradient algorithm takes too much time, which becomes a major factor influencing control effect of adaptive optics systems. In this paper we apply an iterative wavefront control algorithm to high-resolution adaptive optics systems, in which the voltages of each actuator are obtained through iteration arithmetic, which gains great advantage in calculation and storage. For AO system with thousands of actuators, the computational complexity estimate is about O(n2) ～ O(n3) in direct gradient wavefront control algorithm, while the computational complexity estimate in iterative wavefront control algorithm is about O(n) ～(O(n)3/2), in which n is the number of actuators of AO system. And the more the numbers of sub-apertures and deformable mirror actuators, the more significant advantage the iterative wavefront control algorithm exhibits.
