Matrix metallopeptidase 3 is a zinc-containing proteinase that participates in tissue remodeling and immune responses. In this study, a cDNA encoding matrix metallopeptidase 3 was isolated and characterized from the Asian yellow pond turtle Mauremys mutica（designated as MaMMP3）. The MaMMP3 cDNA is 1805 bp and consists of a 5＇-untranslated region（UTR） of 56 bp, a 3＇-UTR of 243 bp, and an open reading frame（ORF） of 1506 bp encoding 481 amino acids. Homology analysis of MaMMP3 revealed that the MaMMP3 shared 25%–63% similarity to other known MMP3 sequences. The genomic sequence covers 6007 bp. Comparative analysis of the cDNA sequence revealed that the Asian yellow pond turtle MMP3 has eight exons and seven introns. The phylogenetic tree showed that the MaMMP3 is closely related to Gallus gallus MMP3 and Taeniopygia guttata MMP3. The mRNA expression of the MaMMP3 in normal group without any bacterial challenge could be detected in all studied tissues including kidney, heart, live and spleen, with the highest level in the spleen. The results of immune challenge showed that the expression level of MaMMP3 was up-regulated in the spleen and liver. These results provided an important information for studying the roles of Asian yellow pond turtle MMP3 in immunity further.

Phosphorus fractionation and release characteristics of sediment in the Saemangeum Reservoir for seasonal change

Periodical algal blooms result in deposition and release of phosphorus(P) from the sediment into the water. Therefore, during seasonal changes when algal particles begin to settle to the bottom, understanding the behavior and distribution characteristics of the P in sediment is the most important key to manage the water quality of the Saemangeum Reservoir. In this study, the variation of water quality and sediment composition including chlorophyll-a(Chl-a) and P was investigated to determine the interaction between water and sediment. The study focused primarily on algal particle sedimentation that affects the P release and mineralization of sediment. The Chl-a concentration in water showed a sharp decline in October when the algae began to die in the fall, and afterward the concentration of chemical oxygen demand(COD) and total P(TP) in the sediment increased due to the sedimentation of decaying algal particles in *** the same period of time, the readily bio-available P(RAP) in the sediment showed a drastic increase in the upper region where the Chl-a concentration of water was high. In sequence, the high RAP zone shifted from the upper region to the lower region in the early winter. The RAP shift was considered to be derived from the physical flow of the overlying water from which the decomposing algae settled on the surface of the sediment. The Saemangeum Reservoir was constructed recently; therefore, all the types of inorganic P fractions except soluble reactive phosphorus(SRP) that exist on the bottom surface of the lake and the marsh’s sediment layer were not sufficient to significantly influence the overlying water. On the other hand, the released P from the algae was distinct and sensitive to the seasonal change. In conclusion,the algal particle sedimentation was important to control eutrophication rather than P release from the mineralized inorganic P of the sediment surface layer in the Seamangeum Reservoir.

BACKGROUND： Ischemic stroke in young adults brings extremely hurts for their families and society, and the etiological factors and risk factors are different in the world.OBJECTIVE： To analyze and evaluate clinical significance of ischemic stroke in young adults by using TOAST typing.DESIGN： Case analysis.SETTING： Department of Neurology, the First Affiliated Hospital, Guangxi Medical University.PARTICIPANTS： A total of 64 young adults with acute ischemic stroke were selected from the Department of Neurology, the First Affiliated Hospital, Guangxi Medical University from September 2005 to June *** were 44 males and 20 females and their age ranged from 15 to 45 years. All patients met with the diagnostic criteria of the Fourth National Cerebrovarscular academic Meeting and certainly diagnosed with CT or MRI examination. In addition, all patients provided the confirmed consent.METHODS： ① TOAST typing： Based on X-ray of thoracic part, electrocardiography, blood routine, blood glucose, electrolure, lipid, blood coagulation test, anticardiolipin antibody, antinuclear antibody, anti-double chain DNA, antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody, crook agglutination test, syphilis antibody and human immunodeficiency virus （HIV） antibody test, patients received TOAST typing, including large-artery atherosclerotic stroke （LA）, small-artery occlusion lacunar （SA）, cardioembolism （CE）, stroke of other demonstrated etiology （SOE）, and stroke of other undemonstrated etiology （SUE）. ② Risk factors： Stages of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipemia, smoking and drinking of patients were observed. Blood pressure was measured twice after onset of acute stroke, and values of total cholesterol （TC） and/or triacylglycerol （TG） were measured more than twice to finally diagnose hyperlipemia. BACKGROUND: At present, it is believed that the important causes of cerebral infarction are the disorders of lipid metabolism and endothelial function, and the outcomes of clinical treatment can be improved by regulating serum lipids and antiinflammation, etc. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of simvastatin, inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase, on the levels of serum lipids, serum enzymic indexes and inflammatory metabolic indexes in patients with cerebral infarction. DESIGN: A comparative observation. SETTING: Department of Geriatrics, Longquanshan Hospital of Liuzhou City. PARTICIPANTS: Forty-eight patients with acute cerebral infarction were selected from the Department of Geriatrics of Longquanshan Hospital of Liuzhou from March 2004 to February 2006, including 24 males and 24 females, the mean age was (54±12) years, average disease course was (10.0±4.5) days. They were all accorded with the diagnostic standard for cerebral infarction set by the Fourth National academic Meeting for Cerebrovascular Disease in 1999, and cerebral hemorrhage was excluded by cranial CT scanning. The 48 patients were randomly divided into control group (n =24) and treatment group (n =24). Informed consents were obtained from all the participants. METHODS: ① All the patients were treated according to the symptoms, besides those in the treatment group were given simvastatin (Harbin Pharm. Group Sanjing Pharmaceutical Shareholding, Co.,Ltd., No. H20010454; Batch number: 20040218; 5 mg/tablet). The initial dosage was 10 mg per day for 4 weeks, and then increased to 30 mg per day for another 4 weeks. ② Before treatment and within 1 week after treatment, the total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), creatine kinase and C reactive protein in serum were determined with Beckman-cx7 automatic biochemical analytical apparatus in both groups. ③ The differenc

Two new ligands, S-benzyl-b-N-[10-ethylphenothiazine-3-methylene] dithiocarbazate (HL1), S-methyl-b-N-[10-ethylphenothiazine-3-methylene] dithiocarbazate (HL2), and their complexes 122222(ZnL, ZnL, CdL), which exhibit intensive two-photon excited (TPE) fluorescence at 800 nm laser pulses in the femtosecond regime, are synthesized and fully characterized. The measured power dependence of the fluorescence signals provides a direct evidence for TPE. All of them exhibit a large two-photon absorptive crosssection. The two-photon-excited fluorescence spectra of them are compared and contrasted with the corresponding results obtained from the one-photon excitation. Emission peaks of the ligands and their complexes are observed mostly at the region 550—595 nm in the TPE fluorescence spectra.

In this work, the vertical distribution of the root system in the Tarim Desert Highway shelterbelt under high salinity water drip irrigation was investigated. The effect of site condition and shelterbelt age was studied. The root sample was collected by plant side soil column excavation. The root distribution was found to be dependent on soil texture, aspect, and plant age. In harden sand, the roots were mostly in the 0–40 cm soil. The root distribution is deep in flat sandy ground and ridge sand. In unit soil volume, the root weight of flat sandy ground was the highest. Compared with the shady slope, the sunny slope had much high total root weight, deeper root distribution, but less hair root. The root weight increased rapidly with the increase of the shelterbelt ages, and the most substantial increase was observed in the early years after forest implantation.

Environmentally assisted cracking(EAC)behavior of two Mg-rare earth(RE)alloys such as Mg-Zn-Gd-Nd-Zr(EV31A)and Mg-Y-Nd(WE43C)alloys was investigated by using U-bend *** circuit potentials(OCP)of the U-bend specimens were monitored during the EAC tests in 0.1 M NaOH solution with different chloride concentrations at room ***31A(as-received,and peak aged)and WE43C(peak aged)specimens failed by SCC in 80 ppm chloride containing 0.1 M NaOH solution at *** the EAC initiation occurred,the OCP decreased *** fluctuations of the OCP were observed in the absence of *** OCP versus time profile could be used for monitoring EAC failure of the Mg-RE alloy components in real life *** potentials did not cause cracking of the EV31A alloy in 80 ppm Cl-containing 0.1 M *** cracking was observed on the WE43C alloy in peak-aged condition under the applied potentials in the transpassive region when compared to that of OCP *** decreased the susceptibility to cracking.

BACKGROUND： Central coordination disturbance is regarded as the early-stage symptom of brain injury-induced cerebral palsy. This disease manifests itself as motor disorder, abnormal attitudinal reflex and muscular tension. Early intervention may improve its prognosis. OBJECTIVE： To observe the effects of intervention treatment from different stages on the prognosis of central coordination disturbance following brain injury in children patients. DESIGN： A contrast observation experiment SETTING： Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation, Urumqi Children＇s Hospital PARTICIPANTS ： Totally 151 children who were diagnosed as central coordination disturbance from January 2002 to December 2003 in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation of Urumqi Children＇s Hospital were recruited. All the children patients, including 101 male and 50 female, aged from 3 months to 1 year old, met the diagnosis criteria of central coordination disturbance from Vojta. They were divided into slight, moderate and severe abnormity according to Vojta attitudinal reflex. All 151 patients were divided into 2 groups according to their age at diagnosis： 3-6 months old group （n=74）, 62 severe, 10 moderate and 2 slight; 7-12 months old group （n=77）, 66 severe, 7 moderate and 4 slight. All the relatives of children patients were informed of the experiment. METHODS： ① Both groups received physical training （PT） as the main treatment; Hand training was given if necessary. All of the patients received additional hyperbaric oxygen therapy, bioelectric therapy, scalp acupuncture, drug treatment and family training. The importance of integration of hospital and family based rehabilitation was stressed. Those who did not catch up with the normal development or had abnormal reflexes continued to receive treatment. ② Around the age of 2 years old, all children did a final evaluation using Bayley Scales of Infant Development （BSID）.
