DearEditor,The coronavirus disease 2019(coVID-19)pandemic caused great global morbidity and mortality concurrent with astronomical socioeconomic damages and losses.Until now,the culpable pathogen,SARS-coV-2,has infected over 6 hundred million people resulting in more than 6 million deaths worldwide(WHO SARScoV-2 cases).There is an urgent need for rapid development of effective and affordable therapeutics for coVID-19 patients.

Insulation systems in high-voltage electric machines play a pivotal role in the reliable operation and longevity of the equipment.Mica-based insulation materials have proven to possess and maintain excellent dielectric properties in the long run and prevent premature insulation degradation.Numerous qualifications tests,such as voltage endurance,are outlined in IEC and IEEE standards.The authors,however,take a different parametric approach,opting for reliability assessment of insulation systems using derived three-parameter Weibull models.Therefore,instead of simple pass–fail criteria,empirical data is employed to determine failure rate probabilities quantitatively and objectively.Experimental data,including breakdown,dissipation factor,and partial discharge mea-surements,are used to construct the Weibull distribution model to predict fault and failure rates and calculate hazard functions.The rigorous examinations interpreted through the analytical model help assess insulation system resilience and particularly the impact of electrical field stress and mica content.Variation of electrical stress from 66.75 to 71.20 V/mil demonstrated how the mean time to failure of the system changed from 146.4 to 85.1 at 3 Un,hence identifying opportunities for design improvement and uncovering performance boundaries.Ultimately,the developed framework enhances comprehension of insulation system failure probabilities,guiding design decisions and ensuring a secure and reliable operation of electrical machines across applications.

In vaccine development,broadly or cross-type neutralizing antibodies(bnAbs or cnAbs)are frequently targeted to enhance protection.Utilizing immunodominant antibodies could help fine-tune vaccine immunogenicity and augment the precision of immunization strategies.However,the methodologies to capitalize on the attributes of bnAbs in vaccine design have not been clearly elucidated.In this study,we discovered a cross-type neutralizing monoclonal antibody,13H5,against human papillomavirus 6(HPV6)and HPV11.This nAb exhibited a marked preference for HPV6,demonstrating superior binding activity to virus-like particles(VLPs)and significantly higher prevalence in anti-HPV6 human serum as compared to HPV11 antiserum(90%vs.31%).Through co-crystal structural analysis of the HPV6 L1 pentamer:13H5 complex,we delineated the epitope as spanning four segments of amino acids(Phe42-Ala47,Gly172-Asp173,Glu255-Val275,and Val337-Tyr351)on the L1 surface loops.Further interaction analysis and site-directed mutagenesis revealed that the Ser341 residue in the HPV6 HI loop plays a critical role in the interaction between 13H5 and L1.Substituting Ser341 with alanine,which is the residue type present in HPV11 L1,almost completely abolished binding activity to 13H5.By swapping amino acids in the HPV11 HI loop with corresponding residues in HPV6 L1(Ser341,Thr338,and Thr339),we engineered chimeric HPV11-6HI VLPs.Remarkably,the chimeric HPV11-6HI VLPs shifted the high immunodominance of 13H5 from HPV6 to the engineered VLPs and yielded comparable neutralization titers for both HPV6 and HPV11 in mice and non-human primates.This approach paves the way for the design of broadly protective vaccines from antibodies within the main immunization reservoir.

Accurate metrology of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) photomask is a crucial task. In this paper, two different methods for reference EUV photomask metrology are compared. One is the critical dimension atomic force microscopy (CD-AFM). In the measurements, the contribution of its AFM tip geometry is usually the dominant error source, as measured AFM images are the dilated results of measured structures by the AFM tip geometry. To solve this problem, a bottom-up approach has been applied in calibrating the (effective) AFM tip geometry where the result is traceably calibrated to the lattice constant of silicon crystals. The other is transmission electron microscopy (TEM). For achieving measurement traceability, structure features are measured in pairs in TEM images;thus the distance between the structure pair calibrated by a metrological AFM in prior can be applied to determine the magnification of the TEM image. In this study, selected photomask structures are calibrated by the CD-AFM, and then sample prepared and measured by high-resolution TEM nearly at the same location. The results are then compared. Of six feature groups compared, the results agree well within the measurement uncertainty, indicating excellent performance of the developed methodology. This research supports the development of a photomask standard, which is applied as a “reference ruler” with improved low measurement uncertainty in photomask fabs.

Spraying parameters during particle agglomeration processes can affect the agglomeration kinetics and particle growth.This study was conducted to better understand the influence of the spraying parameters in a fluidized bed wet agglomeration process,and the influence on the stability characteristics of carbon tablets.A formulation based on fine carbon and peroxide powder,as well as carboxymethyl cellulose as a binder,was used to produce agglomerates in a first production step.Thereafter in a second production step carbon tablets with a high porosity were molded for the customer goods industry.The optimization of the compressive strength of these carbon tablets was the goal of the trials.Carbon agglomerates were produced with a laboratory scale granulator called“ProCell”and were compressed with a five-cavity mechanical press.The screening of the agglomeration process parameters and their influence on the agglomerates quality,as well as the performance characteristics of the carbon tablets,were investigated using a multilevel factorial design.The experimental runs were done by varying atomized air pressure and feed rate of the fluid.This was determined by the design model.The findings of the statistical trials showed that low atomized air pressure and a low feed rate lead to a higher tablet compressive strength.

Transient adhesion effects in rolling–sliding contacts influence all aspects of train–track interaction.This is of high importance specifically when these effects result in critically low adhesion,which poses a risk to traction and braking of railway vehicles.This study presents a model that can replicate the transient changes of the coefficient of adhesion with tested water and solid particle mix.The experimental data for the model are measured using a commercial ball-on-disc tribometer.The experimental results showed a liquid reservoir in front of the contact area that slowly reduces in size.This observation was used in the modelling approach to divide the calculation into two stages where the reservoir is present and when it disappears.The model was able to reproduce the occurrence of low adhesion region seen in experimental results with different particle concentrations.

A neural network model with a classical annotation method has been used on the EXL-50tokamak to predict impending disruption.However,the results revealed issues of overfitting and overconfidence in predictions caused by inaccurate labeling.To mitigate these issues,an improved training framework has been proposed.In this approach,soft labels from previous training serve as teachers to supervise the further learning process;this has lead to a significant improvement in predictive model performance.Notably,this enhancement is primarily attributed to the coupling effect of the soft labels and correction mechanism.This improved training framework introduces an instance-specific label smoothing method,which reflects a more nuanced model assessment on the likelihood of a disruption.It presents a possible solution to effectively address the challenges associated with accurate labeling across different machines.

Occurrence and vertical distribution of aluminum and rare earths in weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ore:Effect of soil solution pH and clay minerals

Weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ore is crucial source of medium and heavy rare earths,with in-situ leaching being the most common mining method.The high contents of impurity of aluminum in the leach solution are a significant challenge for the subsequent enrichment process of rare earths.A comprehensive understanding of the occurrences and vertical distribution of aluminum and rare earths within typical vertical profiles can provide valuable insights into entire design of the in-situ leaching.This paper improves a five-step sequential extraction method to analyze the occurrence and vertical distribution of rare earths and aluminum in vertical profiles from Chongzuo and Longyan.Experimental results demonstrate that soil solution pH is the main factor affecting the vertical distribution of ionexchangeable rare earths.Both samples have distinct areas of enrichment for ion-exchangeable rare earths or aluminum.Ion-exchangeable rare earths are primary concentrated in the middle and lower parts of the ore layer(4-13 m in Chongzuo,14-22 m in Longyan),while the ion-exchangeable aluminum is mainly enriched in the upper part of the ore layer(1-5 m in Chongzuo,and 2-14 m in Longyan).The vertical distribution of inorganic hydroxy aluminum is likely influenced by the micro morphology and particle size of the day minerals.The inorganic hydroxy aluminum concentration in Chongzuo samples decreases continuously from 415.65 to 120.95 mg/kg with increasing sampling depth,whereas the concentration in Longyan samples(110.55-171.27 mg/kg) is almost independence with sampling depth.These results provide direct guidance for the entire design of the injection well depth and the leaching parameters,thereby inhibiting the leaching of impurity of aluminum and lower the consumption of leaching agent.
