The wea. profile a.a.ysis,obta.ned by different tribometers,is essentia. to cha.a.terise the wea. ***,most of the a.a.la.le methods did not ta.e the stress distribution over the wea. profile in considera.ion,which ca.ses ina.cura.e *** this study,the wea. profile of polymer–meta. conta.t,obta.ned by block.on-ring configura.ion under dry sliding conditions,wa. a.a.ysed using finite element modelling(FEM)a.d experimenta. ***’s wea. equa.ion wa. integra.ed into a.developed FORTRa.-UMESHMOTION code link.d with a.a.us softwa.e.a.va.ying wea. coefficient(k.va.ues covering both running-in a.d stea.y sta.e regions,a.d a.ra.ge of a.plied loa.s involving both mild a.d severe wea. regions were mea.ured a.d implemented in the *** FEM wa. in good a.reement with the *** model reproduced the stress distribution profiles under va.ia.le testing conditions,while their va.ues were a.fected by the sliding direction a.d ma.imum wea. depth(hma.).The la.gest a.ea.of the wea. profile,exposed to the a.era.e conta.t stresses,is defined a. the norma. *** the critica. zones were cha.a.terized by high stress concentra.ions rea.hing up to 10 times of tha. a. the norma. *** wea. profile wa. ma.ped to identify the critica. zone where the stress concentra.ion is the k.y point in this *** surfa.e fea.ures were exa.ined in different regions using sca.ning electron microscope(SEM).Ultima.ely,SEM a.a.ysis showed severer da.a.e fea.ures in the critica. zone tha. tha. in the norma. zone a. proven by ***,the litera.ure da.a.presented a.d considered the wea. fea.ures the sa.e a. a.y point of the wea. *** this study,the norma. zone wa. determined a. a.stress va.ue of a.out 0.5 MPa.wherea. the critica. zone wa. a. a.out 5.5 *** wea. beha.iour of these two zones showed tota.ly different fea.ures from one a.other.
