Mineralogy and geochemistry of trachytic rocks from the Lichi Volcanics, Eastern Himalaya: insights into the Kerguelen mantle plume activity in the Eastern Himalayan Region

The Lichi volcanics are a suite of mafic-intermediate-felsic rocks and are considered coeval with the Abor volcanics(~132 Ma) of the Siang window in the Eastern Himalaya. Here, we present the first report of trachytic rocks from the Lichi volcanics, which are exposed in the Ranga valley, along the Kimin-Yazali road section in the Eastern Himalayan Region, Northeast India. The trachytes occur in close association with sandstones of the Gondwana Group of rocks and are characterised based on field, petrographical, and geochemical *** fine-grained trachytes are composed of alkali feldspar, biotite, plagioclase, sodic-amphibole, apatite, illmenite, and titanite. The REE profiles of the evolved trachytic rocks(higher SiO_(2)content) display fractionated trends. The fractionation of accessory mineral phases, like apatite and titanite, was possibly responsible for the strongly fractionated REE patterns of the evolved *** trachytic rocks demonstrate high apatite saturation temperatures of 988 ± 14.℃(1σ, n = 8). The Aluminium Saturation Index(< 1.1) and binary discrimination diagrams of these peralkaline trachytes define their affinity with A-type granitoids. Elemental ratios like Y/Nb, Nb/U,and Ce/Pb signify that the Lichi trachytes are differentiated products of mantle-derived ocean island basalts. Trace elemental discrimination diagrams Th/Yb versus Nb/Yb, Y versus Nb, and Y + Nb versus Rb reflect a within-plate tectonic regime for the trachytes. From the results presented in this work, we infer that the development of rifting events during the breakup of eastern Gondwana due to the onset of Kerguelen plume activity further led to underplating of basic magma in lower crustal levels. The partial pressure of atmospheric CO2（pCO2） is determined by the carbon cycle that involves climate, biogeochemistry, and plate tectonics. Global paleobiogeography of Albian—Cenomanian(mid-Cretaceous)marine ostracods

Despite their potential for providing important information for paleobiogeography,studies using ostracod assemblages compiled from global datasets have been scarce so *** this study,the paleogeographic implications of the relationship between different ostracod assemblages are analyzed and discussed for the Albian and *** compiled an ostracod dataset at the genus level,with 168 genera for the Albian and 174.for the Cenomanian,to which different multivariate statistical methods of grouping were *** affinity between different ostracod assemblages from different regions allowed for the delineation of 30 operational geographic units(OGUs)for the Albian,and 32 OGUs for the Cenomanian,grouped in three paleobiogeographic units(PBUs;Megatethys,Persia,and Austral)and one sub-unit(PBSU;Maghreb associated to the Megatethys).The Maghreb PBSU showed minor changes between the Albian and *** relationship among the OGUs grouped in each PBU is related to different factors,such as eustatic sea level events,similar climatic zones,and marine current circulation patterns.A relationship was observed between the Gabon and Nigeria OGUs with the Persia PBU,which suggests a direct east—west connection between them during the *** affinity observed in the Austral PBU between the South American,South African,and Australian regions during the Albian can be explained by their relative geographic isolation due to the Walvis Ridge *** eventual flooding of this barrier led to the relationship observed between the SE Brazilian and Bolivian regions with the Austral ***,the data also suggested that the separation of the Indian subcontinent from the Austral PBU took place during the Cenomanian.

Structural geology and Chronology of Shear Zones along the Shangdan Suture in Qinling Orogenic Belt,China:Implications for Late Mesozoic Intra-Continental Deformation of East Asia

The Shangdan suture zone(SDZ)in the Qinling orogenic belt(QOB)is a key to understanding the East Asia tectonic *** SDZ gives information about convergent processes between the North China Block(NCB)and South China Block(SCB).In the Late Mesozoic,several shear zones evolved along the SDZ boundary that helps us comprehend the collisional deformation between the NCB and SCB,which was neglected in previous *** shear zones play an essential role in the tectonic evolution of the East Asia *** study focuses on the deformation and geochronology of two shear zones distributed along the SDZ,identified in the Shaliangzi and Maanqiao *** shear sense indicators and kinematic vorticity numbers(0.54.0.90)suggest these shear zones have sinistral shear and sub-simple shear deformation *** quartz’s dynamic recrystallization and c-axis fabric analysis in the Maanqiao shear zone(MSZ)revealed that the MSZ experienced deformation under green-schist facies conditions at∼4.0–500℃.The Shaliangzi shear zone deformed under amphibolite facies at∼500–700℃.The^(4.)Ar/^(39)Ar(muscovite-biotite)dating of samples provided a plateau age of 121–123 *** with previously published data,our results concluded that QOB was dominated by compressional tectonics during the Late Early ***,we suggested that the Siberian Block moved back to the south and Lhasa-Qiantang-Indochina Block to the north,which promoted intra-continental compressional tectonics.

n-Alkane bound biomarker fingerprints from asphaltenes in the bitumens of Eastern Dahomey Basin,Nigeria:Source and genetic implications

The asphaltene fractions of the bitumens of Eastern Dahomey Basin in Nigeria,were analyzed by flash pyrolysis-gas chromatography(Py-GC)method in order to unravel its geochemical history and *** distributions of the initial biomarkers of the original oils from the pyrolysates are related to the assessment of organic matter source,paleo-redox conditions and source environment during ***,it effectively establishes the genetic relationship of the *** n-alkane distributions in the pyrolysates reveal nC_(9)-nC_(32)n-alkanes,maximizing at nC_(14.,isoprenoids-pristane(Pr)and phytane(Ph),and some n-alkene *** peaks of low to medium-weight nC_(9)-nC20 n-alkanes and low peaks of nC_(21)+n-alkanes characterize the *** reveal that abundant algal organic matter with some terrigenous inputs contributed to the source rock of the *** high concentration of marine organic matter inputs to the source rock is further confirmed by the nC_(17)/nC27 ratios which range from 5.39 to 19.82 and shows the predominance of nC_(17)*** general unimodal n-alkane distributions in the bitumens indicate derivation from similar organic matter types showing that they are genetically *** anoxic to suboxic environmental conditions that prevailed during the deposition of the sediments is revealed by the isoprenoids,Pr/Ph ratios(0.72-1.28).Pristane/nC_(17)and Phytane/nC_(18)range from 0.16 to 0.33 and 0.22 to 0.56,revealing that the bitumens were from predominantly marine organic matter(type II kerogen)preserved in a reducing environment with no evidence of ***,the Ph/nC_(18)ratio and the cross plot of Pr+Ph/nC_(17)+nC_(18)allow the classification of the bitumens into two subfamilies/groups(A and B).The bitumen samples have low wax content as indicated by the degree of waxiness ranging from 0.21 to 0.38 which confirms low terrigenous *** on the carbon preference index(CPI:0.92 to 1.55)and odd-even predo

Key issues on magnetic reconnection at Mercury

Magnetic reconnection processes and their impact on planetary magnetospheric dynamics exhibit significant differences due to differences in upstream solar wind conditions and internal planetary environments. Current understanding of reconnection phenomena at Mercury is rooted in the MESSENGER mission. However, direct detection of reconnection remains rare. Here, we aim to assess the limitations of MESSENGER in detecting reconnection in Mercury's space and to discuss key issues of reconnection that will be addressed by BepiColombo, including the dynamics of magnetic flux ropes, particle acceleration, density asymmetric reconnection,IMF-driven near-tail structures, and potential modes of magnetospheric convection.

Transition from oceanic subduction to continental collision:Insights from volcanogenic-sedimentary rocks of the Tannuola terrane(northern Central Asian Orogenic Belt)

Magmatism associated with oceanic subduction plays a dominant role in crustal growth during the Earth's *** Tannuola terrane,situated in the northern Central Asian Orogenic Belt(CAOB),is a key area to understanding oceanic subduction and initial collision processes in the northern *** order to investigate the switch from subduction to collision settings,detailed field mapping,zircon SHRIMP U-Pb geochronological and whole-rock geochemical studies of volcanogenic-sedimentary rocks from the Tannuola terrane were carried *** U-Pb ages indicate multi-stage volcanism lasted at least 30 Ma from~54. to~510 Ma,that can be divided into three events:the late Ediacaran(before~54. Occurrence of Mafic Rocks within Ediacaran Strata in the Aksu Region, NW Tarim Craton, and its Geological Implications

The Tarim Craton is an ancient Precambrian continental block, and detailed knowledge of its thermo-tectonic history is crucial for understanding the early history of continental evolution. Abundant layered mafic rocks, which have commonly been regarded as basalts, occur within the Ediacaran Sugetbrak Formation(Fm.) in the Aksu region of the northwestern Tarim Craton. Clear intrusive features have now been discovered, including mafic rocks truncating Ediacaran sedimentary layers, exhibiting an intrusion-baked margin where they interact with both the overlying and bottom wall rocks, and displaying a fine-grained transition zone from their interior to their margins. The new findings demonstrate that these mafic rocks within the Aksu Ediacaran strata were not erupted basalts but instead are intrusive diabase dykes. Therefore, these mafic rocks cannot be used to constrain the timing of the Sugetbrak Fm. in the Aksu area, nor as marker layers for regional stratigraphic correlation. Furthermore, the Ediacaran thermo-tectonic evolution in this region, deduced from the assumption that the mafic rocks are lavas, needs to be revised.

Mars exploration——In situ K-Ar dating of jarosite

To accurately determine the chronological framework of climatic variations recorded by various Martian terrains, the absolute ages of Martian events and cratering rate need to be constrained by either in situ dating or returned samples. In situ K-Ar dating is currently a more plausible dating technique as compared with sample return. Jarosite(KFe_(3)[SO_(4.]_(2)[OH]_(6)) is the only confirmed K sulfate mineral that is widely present on Mars, as indicated by in situ detection, orbital remote sensing, and meteorite studies. Jarosite can be used for precise K-Ar and (4.)Ar/(39)Ar dating. The preservation of jarosite on Mars provides information about the nature and duration of aqueous processes on the Martian surface. Different ages of Martian jarosite represent the key to constraining the transition from Martian surface water activity to arid climatic conditions. This paper summarizes recent advances in our knowledge of the spatial distribution of Martian jarosite, its mineralogical properties and stability on Mars, the Ar diffusion kinetics of jarosite, and the current status of in situ K-Ar dating. Moreover, we examine the key scientific issues to be addressed for in situ K-Ar dating of jarosite and Martian sample return missions, and discuss future research directions.

The Eocene Kuldana Formation(KF)in the Yadgar area of Pakistan,comprises a diverse range of sedimentary facies,including variegated red beds of shales,mudstones,and sandstones,as well as interbedded limestone and *** this study,we conducted an integrated micropaleontological,sedimentological,mineralogical,and geochemical investigation to determine the depositional setting,biochronology,provenance,and paleoclimate of the *** study identified six lithofacies and six microfacies,which indicate a variety of environments ranging from floodplains and channels to the margins and shallow marine *** nannofossil biostratigraphy places the KF in the Early Eocene,more precisely the NP10 zone(Ypresian),and the fossil zone of benthic foraminifera classifies the study section as the Shallow Benthic Zone SBZ-8(Middle Ilerdian 2).In terms of petrography,the KF sandstone was classified as litharenite and feldspathic litharenite,while the QtFL diagram suggests a recycled *** proxies indicate an oxidizing environment,a high-to-low regular sedimentation rate,moderate-to-intense chemical weathering in the source region,and a warm-humid to dry climate during the deposition of ***,the findings suggest that the deposition of KF marks the end of Neo-Tethys due to the Early Eocene Indian–Kohistan collision and that the uplifting of the Himalayas provided the source for the deposition of KF in the foreland *** study provides new insights into the depositional environment,biochronology,provenance,and paleoclimate of KF,and highlights the potential for red beds as reliable indicators of oxygenation levels in proximity to mineral deposits.
