Large unsaturated positive and negative magnetoresistance in Weyl semimetal TaP

After successfully growing single-crystal Ta P, we measured its longitudinal resistivity(ρxx) and Hall resistivity(ρyx) at magnetic fields up to 9 T in the temperature range of 2-300 K. At 8 T, the magnetoresistance(MR) reached 3.28 × 105% at 2 K, 176%at 300 K. Neither value appeared saturated. We confirmed that Ta P is a hole-electron compensated semimetal with a low carrier concentration and high hole mobility of μh=3.71 × 10~5cm^2/V s, and found that a magnetic-field-induced metal-insulator transition occurs at room temperature. Remarkably, because a magnetic field(H) was applied in parallel to the electric field(E), a negative MR due to a chiral anomaly was observed and reached-3000% at 9 T without any sign of saturation, either, which is in contrast to other Weyl semimetals(WSMs). The analysis of the Shubnikov-de Haas(Sd H) oscillations superimposed on the MR revealed that a nontrivial Berry's phase with a strong offset of 0.3958, which is the characteristic feature of charge carriers enclosing a Weyl node. These results indicate that Ta P is a promising candidate not only for revealing fundamental physics of the WSM state but also for some novel applications.

We demonstrate a novel optofluidic refractive index （RI） sensor with high sensitivity and wide dynamic range based on partial reflection. Benefited from the divergent incident light and the output fibers with different tilting angles, we have achieved highly sensitive RI sensing in a wide range from 1.33 to 1.37. To investigate the effectiveness of this sensor, we perform a measurement of RI with a resolution of ca. 5.0× 10^-5 refractive index unit （RIU） for ethylene glycol solutions. Also, we have measured a series of liquid solutions by using different output fibers, achieving a resolution of ca. 0.52mg/mL for cane surge. The optofluidic RI sensor takes advantage of the high sensitivity, wide dynamic range, small footprint, and low sample consumption, as well as the efficient fluidic sample delivery, making it useful for applications in the food industry.

杭州市居民对健康城市建设满意现状及其影响因素分析

目的了解浙江省杭州市居民对健康城市建设的满意现状及其影响因素,为该地区今后健康城市建设相关活动的开展提供科学依据。方法于2019年11月—2020年7月采用分层随机抽样方法在杭州市抽取江干区、萧山区、桐庐县3个区/县30个街道/镇5850名15~75岁常住居民进行问卷调查。结果杭州市最终有效调查的5559名居民对健康城市建设的总体满意率为75.5%,其中对医疗卫生服务质量、社会保障、地表水卫生情况、空气质量、垃圾分类与处理情况、道路环境卫生状况、绿化覆盖情况、食品安全、当地社会治安情况、就业机会和环境、教育资源公平性、公共交通便利性、健身场所和设施建设、文化场所建设和公共媒体健康宣传的满意率分别为80.8%、82.8%、69.8%、66.9%、73.8%、78.6%、79.0%、69.2%、87.6%、70.9%、71.8%、82.6%、72.9%、71.4%和74.2%。多因素非条件logistic回归分析结果显示,初中及以上文化程度、企业工人、学生、自由职业者、离退休人员、失业/未就业人员、农民及其他人员和农村户籍的杭州市居民对健康城市建设的满意率较低,家庭人均月收入≥2001元、知晓健康城市建设活动和参与健康城市建设活动的杭州市居民对健康城市建设的满意率较高。结论杭州市居民对健康城市建设的总体满意率较低,文化程度、职业、户籍状况、家庭人均月收入及是否知晓和参与健康城市建设活动是该地区居民对健康城市建设满意情况的主要影响因素。

KitW-2Bao mice are single-gene autosomal dominant mutation mice with a B6 background that were bred in our laboratory. Heterozygotes had morphological characteristics including albinism of the abdomen, extremities, and tail, whereas the homozygotes had albinism of the body, black eyes, and infertility. The homozygous mutants showed small, structurally abnormal gonads, and lacked germ cells. Heterozygous male mice lacked germ cells in some contorted seminiferous tubules. This mutation has been mapped at 43.8 cM from the centromere in chromosome 5 by linkage analysis and Kit has been identified as the candidate gene. After Kit full-length mRNA amplification, it was found that a G to T conversion at position 1228 in the ORF changed the 410th amino acid from V to F. This amino acid change could affect the protein’s secondary structure. Heterozygous mutant mice were intercrossed and homozygous mutant mice were bred and genotyped. We found that no primordial germ cells (PGCs) appeared in the urogenital ridge area at fetus day 11.5 in the homozygotes. The number of PGCs also significantly decreased in heterozygotes. At fetus day 15.5, the differentiation of the testis tubule structure was unclear; as well, they contained no spermatogonia. Female homozygotes contained no primordial follicles in the ovary. The numbers of PGCs and primordial follicles were significantly decreased in heterozygous mice. W-2Bao is the only mutated site in the extracellular 4th Ig-like domain and this mutant mouse model provides new material for the study of the mechanism of reproductive system development.

Quantum critical behavior in an antiferromagnetic heavy-fermion Kondo lattice system(Ce(1-x)Lax)2Ir3Ge5

The measurements on temperature dependences of magnetic susceptibility χ（T）, specific heat C（T）, and electrical resistivity ρ（T） were carried out for the antiferromagnetic（AFM）（Ce（1-x）Lax）2Ir3Ge5（0 ≤ x ≤ 0.66） system. It was found that the Neel temperature TNdecreases with increasing La content x, and reaches 0 K near a critical content xcr =0.6. A new phase diagram was constructed based on these measurements. A non-Fermi liquid behavior in ρ（T） and a log T relationship in C（T） were found in the samples near xcr, indicating them to be near an AFM quantum critical point（QCP） with strong spin fluctuation. Our finding indicates that（Ce（1-x）Lax）2Ir3Ge5 may be a new platform to search for unconventional superconductivity.

Melatonin(MLT)is a hormonal substance found in many organisms and can improve plant stress resistance.In this study,the japonica rice variety Y32 and indica rice variety NJ6 were cultivated in hydroponics under different concentrations of CdCl2 at the two-leaf stage.The growth,physiological and biochemical responses of the seedlings and the expression of cadmium(Cd)-related genes under exogenous melatonin(MLT)treatment were assessed.The results indicated that Cd stress destroyed the dynamic balance between reactive oxygen species(ROS)production and removal,resulting in ROS accumulation,membrane lipid peroxidation,and impaired growth and development.Following the application of exogenous MLT to rice seedlings,increases in plant biomass including both underground and above-ground areas were observed.MLT also scavenged the inhibition of superoxide dismutase(SOD)and peroxidase(POD)in a concentration dependent manner in response to Cd stress.Catalase(CAT)activity and malondialdehyde(MDA)expression also decreased following MLT treatment.Amongst the six Cd-related genes assessed,five genes were downregulated and one was up-regulated in response to MLT treatment.Taken together,these data demonstrate that MLT improves the resilience of rice seedlings at the biochemical,physiological,and molecular levels,and diminishes the damage caused by Cd stress.

In this paper,we study the two-dimensional Helmholtz scattering problem by a locally perturbed line with impedance boundary condition.Different from the problem with Dirichlet boundary condition,the Green function of the Helmholtz equation with impedance boundary condition becomes very complicated and comprises surface waves along the locally perturbed line.A uniaxial perfectly matched layer(UPML)method is proposed to truncate the half plane into a bounded computational domain.The main contribution of this paper is to prove the well-posedness of the PML problem and the exponential convergence of the approximate solution to the exact solution as either the thickness or the medium parameter of PML increases.

Identification of QTLs for yield and yield components of barley under different growth conditions

Waterlogging is a major abiotic stress limiting barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) yield and its stability in areas with excessive rainfall.Identification of genomic regions influencing the response of yield and its components to waterlogging stress will enhance our understanding of the genetics of waterlogging tolerance and the development of more tolerant barley cultivars.Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for grain yield and its components were identified using 156 doubled haploid (DH) lines derived from a cross between the cultivars Yerong (waterlogging-tolerant) and Franklin (waterlogging-sensitive) grown under different conditions (waterlogged and well drained).A total of 31 QTLs were identified for the measured characters from two experiments with two growth environments.The phenotypic variation explained by individual QTLs ranged from 4.74% to 55.34%.Several major QTLs determining kernel weight (KW),grains per spike (GS),spikes per plant (SP),spike length (SL) and grain yield (GY) were detected on the same region of chromosome 2H,indicating close linkage or pleiotropy of the gene(s) controlling these traits.Some different QTLs were identified under waterlogging conditions,and thus different markers may have to be used in selecting cultivars suitable for high rainfall areas.
