Stability, variation, and application of AFIS fiber length distributions

Background:Fiber length is one of the primary quality parameters for the cotton industry when considering the textile performance and end-use quality of ***,many decisions regarding cotton fiber length utilize the industry standard measurement device,i.e.,the High Volume Instrument(HVI).However,it is documented that complete fiber length distributions hold more information than the currently reported HVI length parameters,i.e.,upper half mean length(UHML)and uniformity index(UI).An alternative measurement device,the Advanced Fiber Information System(AFIS),is able to capture additional information about fiber length *** is currently not known is how much additional information the AFIS length distribution ***:The stability of differences in within-sample variation in fiber length captured by the AFIS length distribution by number characterizing differences between samples was deemed stable across the extended testing period.A diverse breeding population was evaluated and four significant sources of within sample variation in length were identified.A comparison of the ability between HVI length parameters and AFIS fiber length distribution to correctly categorize breeding lines to their family was *** all cases,the AFIS fiber length distribution more accurately identified germplasm ***:The long-term stability test of the AFIS fiber length distribution by number shows that the measurement is stable and can be used to assess differences across ***,more information about within-sample variation in fiber length than that can be captured by length parameters is needed to assess differences across samples in many *** length parameters outperform two length parameters when trying to identify the familial background of the samples in this *** parameters characterize distributional shape differences that are not captured by the standard AFIS length parameters,UQL and short fiber cont

Remarkable low-temperature hydrogen cycling kinetics of Mg enabled by VH_(x) nanoparticles

Nanoscaled catalysts have attracted much more attention due to their more abundant active sites and better dispersion than their bulky *** this work,VH_(x) nanoparticles smaller than 10 nm in average size are successfully synthesized by a simple solid-state ball milling coupled with THF washing process,which are proved to be highly effective in enhancing the hydrogen absorption/desorption kinetics of MgH_(2) at moderate *** nano-VH_(x)-modified MgH_(2) releases hydrogen from 182℃,which is 88℃ lower than additive-free MgH_(2).The release of hydrogen amounts to 6.3 wt%H within 10 min at 230℃ and 5.6 wt%H after 30 min at 215℃ with initial *** importantly,the dehydro-genated MgH_(2)+10 wt.%nano-VH_(x) rapidly absorbs 5.2 wt%H within 3 min at 50℃ under 50 bar H_(2).It even takes up 4.3 wt%H within 30 min at room temperature(25℃)under 10 bar H_(2),exhibiting supe-rior hydrogenation kinetics to most of the previous *** analyzes disclose the reversible transformation between V and V-H species during the hydrogen desorption-absorption *** ho-mogeneously distributed V-based species is believed to act as hydrogen pump and nucleation sites for MgH_(2) and Mg,respectively,thus triggering fast hydrogenation/dehydrogenation kinetics.

Sweet’s syndrome is a neutrophilic dermatosis characterized by tender, erythematous, pseudovesicular plaques that can be associated with hematologic malignancy. We report a patient with recalcitrant Sweet’s syndrome that preceded the development of myelodysplastic syndrome by 30 months. The delay between the onset of Sweet’s syndrome and the subsequent diagnosis of myelodysplasia highlights the need for thorough and repeated evaluation for underlying malignancy in patients with such a course. Although corticosteroids are the initial treatment of choice, this patient’s eruption was only partially responsive to high-dose prednisone andwas refractory tometronidazole, dapsone, and methotrexate. Treatmentwith thalidomide resulted in complete resolution of the cutaneous lesions within one month of therapy.

Background:Survival from pancreatic cancer is low *** the US,the 5-year relative survival has been slightly higher for women,whites and younger patients than for their counterparts,and differences in age and stage at diagnosis[Corrections added Nov 16,2022,after first online publication:a new affiliation is added to Maja Nikšić]may contribute to this *** aimed to examine trends in survival by race,stage,age and sex for adults(15-99 years)diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the ***:This population-based study included 399,427 adults registered with pancreatic cancer in 41 US state cancer registries during 2001-2014,with followup to December 31,*** estimated age-specific and age-standardized net survival at 1 and 5 ***:Overall,12.3%of patients were blacks,and 84.2%were *** 9.5%of patients were diagnosed with localized disease,but 50.5%were diagnosed at an advanced stage;slightly more among blacks,mainly among *** substantial changes were seen over time(2001-2003,2004-2008,2009-2014).In general,1-year net survival was higher in whites than in blacks(26.1%vs.22.1%during 2001-2003,35.1%vs.31.4%during 2009-2014).This difference was particularly evident among patients with localized disease(49.6%in whites vs.44.6%in blacks during 2001-2003,60.1%vs.55.3%during 2009-2014).The survival gap between blacks and whites with localized disease was persistent at 5 years after diagnosis,and it widened over time(from 24.0%vs.21.3%during 2001-2003 to 39.7%vs.31.0%during 2009-2014).The survival gap was wider among men than among ***:Gaps in 1-and 5-year survival between blacks and whites were persistent throughout 2001-2014,especially for patients diagnosed with a localized tumor,for which surgery is currently the only treatment modality with the potential for cure.

The Role of Barrier Layer in Southeastern Arabian Sea During the Development of Positive Indian Ocean Dipole events

Using data from Argo and simple ocean data assimilation (SODA), the role of the barrier layer (BL) in the southeastern Arabian Sea (SeAS: 60°e-75°e, 0°-10°N) is investigated during the development of positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) events from 1960 to 2008. It is found that warmer sea surface temperature (SST) in the northern Indian Ocean appears in June in the SeAS. This warm SST accompanying anomalous southeastern wind persists for six months and a thicker BL and a corresponding thinner mixed layer in the SeAS contribute to the SST warming during the IOD formation period. The excessive precipitation during this period helps to form a thicker BL and a thinner mixed layer, resulting in a higher SST in the SeAS. Warm SST in the SeAS and cold SST to the southeast of the SeAS intensify the southeasterly anomaly in the tropical Indian Ocean, which transports more moisture to the SeAS, and then induces more precipitation there. The ocean-atmosphere interaction process among wind, precipitation, BL and SST is very important for the anomalous warming in the SeAS during the development of positive IOD events.
