Macro-micro behaviors and failure mechanism of frozen weakly cemented mudstone

Understanding the mechanical properties and multiscale failure mechanism of frozen soft rock is an important prerequisite for the construction safety of tunnels,artificially frozen ground and other infrastructure in cold *** this study,the triaxial compression test are performed on mudstone in the weakly cemented soft rock strata in the mining area of western China,and the mechanical characteristics and failure mechanism of weakly cemented mudstone are systematically investigated under the combined action of freezing and ***,the quantitative relationship between the microstructural parameters and the macroscopic strength and deformation parameters is established based on fractal ***,the failure mechanism of frozen weakly cemented mudstone is revealed on both micro- and *** results show that temperature and confining pressure significantly affects the elastic modulus and peak strength of weakly cemented *** decreasing temperature,the compressive strength increases,while the corresponding peak strain decreases *** the deformation curve,the plastic deformation stage is shortened,and the brittle fracture feature at the post-peak stage is more prominent,and the elastic modulus correspondingly increases with decreasing *** low-temperature conditions,most of the weakly cemented mudstone undergoes microscopic shear failure along the main fracture *** micro-fracture morphology characteristics of weakly cemented mudstone under different temperatures are quantified via the fractal dimension,and an approximately exponential relationship can be obtained among the fractal dimension and the temperature,compressive strength and elastic modulus.

Seismic risk is one of the biggest challenges for tunnel safety,and several mitigation techniques have been proposed to enhance the seismic performance of existing *** paper aims to investigate the effectiveness of an innovative approach for reducing the seismic risk of existing tunnels by using soft material walls(SMW)symmetrically installed in the surrounding *** investigation is performed with a two-dimensional numerical model and the effectiveness of SMW in mitigating the seismic-induced lining forces is quantitatively evaluated by reduction *** influences of nonlinear properties of soil,SMW and tunnel lining on the isolation effectiveness are also *** parametric studies show that the computed reduction ratio is strongly affected by the modulus ratio between the SMW and the soil,the wall geometric parameter,and the flexibility *** is more effective for the thick and soft isolation walls that are inserted near a stiff tunnel in the soft *** tunnel seismic response can be reduced by up to 50%for the scenarios ***,the parametric study identifies an optimum normalized depth of SMW and recommends a relation between the maximum isolation effect and the flexibility ***,simple charts are suggested in this work for estimating the isolation effect in specific conditions of the soil and the *** these lines,the results of this work may be used in the seismic retrofitting of an existing tunnel,aiding the preliminary design of the isolation walls.

In this study,the impact of different reaction times on the preparation of powdered activated carbon(PAC)using a one-step rapid activation method under flue gas atmosphere is investigated,and the underlying reaction mechanism is *** indicate that the reaction process of this method can be divided into three stages:stage I is the rapid release of volatiles and the rapid consumption of O_(2),primarily occurring within a reaction time range of 0-0.5 s;stage II is mainly the continuous release and diffusion of volatiles,which is the carbonization and activation coupling reaction stage,and the carbonization process is the main in this *** stage mainly occurs at the reaction time range of 0.5 -2.0 s when SL-coal is used as material,and that is 0.5-3.0 s when JJ-coal is used as material;stage III is mainly the activation stage,during which activated components diffuse to both the surface and interior of *** stage mainly involves the reaction stage of CO_(2)and H2O(g)activation,and it mainly occurs at the reaction time range of 2.0-4.0 s when SL-coal is used as material,and that is 3.0-4.0 s when JJ-coal is used as ***,the main function of the first two stages is to provide more diffusion channels and contact surfaces/activation sites for the diffusion and activation of the activated components in the third *** the reaction mechanism would serve as a crucial reference and foundation for designing the structure,size of the reactor,and optimal positioning of the activator nozzle in PAC preparation.

The lateral response of combined pile-raft foundations(CPRFs)adjacent to tunnel excavation is a challenging problem owing to the complexity of the pile-raft *** current engineering practices,the impact of these connections on the lateral performance of CPRFs is frequently overlooked,despite their *** address this issue,this study conducted three-dimensional finite element analyses to evaluate the contribution of pile-raft connections to the tunnelling-induced lateral performance of CPRFs in saturated *** the analysis,both passive and active loading at the pile head could be considered by varying the tunnel *** parameter studies,such as relative pile-raft modulus,pile embedded modulus,pile embedded depths,and pile shaft skin friction,were conducted to determine the optimal design parameters for *** results indicate that pile-raft connections significantly affect the tunnellinginduced deflections and bending moments of pile *** by the results,a simplified design method,the pile-raft connection coefficient Kc was ***,the pile-head restraint percentage was established to make a relationship with the pile-raft connection coefficient in order to assess the pile-raft connection and guide the pile-raft *** this paper,the recommended range value of Kc is 10–200 and the range value of pile-head restraint percentage is 24%–42%.

An overview of the current research status and control methods of MnS in non-quenched and tempered steel was *** a low-melting plastic inclusion,the morphology and distribution of MnS were influenced by various production ***,control of MnS is a systematic problem that must be integrated into the entire production *** on the production process,the factors affecting the morphology and distribution of MnS in steel were *** effects of oxygen activity,manganese,sulfur,and some alloys on MnS inclusion precipitation were summarized,mainly including MnS modification treatment and oxygen-sulfide composite precipitation *** is believed that MnS precipitates during the solidification process of steel,and controlling the solidification cooling rate could effectively regulate the size and morphology of MnS,avoiding the precipitation of ***,by changing the deformation rate,deformation amount,deformation temperature during the hot deformation process,and heating time and temperature during heat treatment,the distribution and morphology of MnS could be *** the fine control of the above process parameters,the number of II-MnS in steel could be effectively reduced,and their morphology could be improved,thereby enhancing the performance of non-quenched and tempered steel and promoting its wider ***,applying laboratory research results to industrial production is an important direction for future research efforts in this field.

The microstructural characteristics including optical texture,porosity and pore structure and chemical structure of stamp-charged coke(SCC)and gravity-charged coke(GCC)with similar conventional macro-indicators were investigated,and the properties including micro-strength,reactivity of coke matrix and that after alkali enrichment were comparatively studied by various characterization *** anisotropic structure of SCC is composed of high content of fine mosaic texture,while the content of medium mosaic texture,coarse texture and fibrous texture is *** statistical average shows that the fine mosaic average of SCC(24.89%)is 3.78 times the GCC average(6.58%),and the coarse mosaic average(1.24%)is only about 1/3.of the GCC average(3.43.).The porosity of SCC is lower than that of GCC,but tamping process does not lead to the fact that the number of closed pores of SCC is significantly lower than that of *** the structure of SCC is compact,its pore number is large and the pore wall is *** of coke with diameter less than 150 nm seem unaffected by tamping *** aromatic structure of SCC was less ordered than that of GCC,which was speculated to be related to the addition of more low metamorphic coal in *** microscopic strength and structural strength of SCC are lower than those of *** reactivity of coke matrix is affected by the specific surface area,but it is not the determining factor of its *** improvement in dissolution reactivity of coke after potassium enrichment is independent of coke type.

People in elevators are at risk of respiratory infection because the elevator cabin is crowded and has poor *** exhaled particles may be inhaled by the susceptible person,deposited on the surface and suspended in the elevator,which can result in direct and indirect ***,whether the air vent designs adopted in the elevator can effectively reduce the transmission risk of respiratory particles remains *** this study,the dispersion of particles under four common ventilation strategies used in the commercial elevator was investigated by proven computational fluid dynamics(CFD)*** flow field was simulated with the RNG κ-ξ turbulence model and the Lagrangian method was adopted to track particle *** effects of air vent layout and airflow rate on particle transmission were *** found that more than 50% of exhaled particles(average value)were suspended in the cabin and difficult to discharge under the investigated ventilation *** deposited fraction of particles on the susceptible person reached up to 3..14% for infiltration ventilation,which led to a high risk of contact *** the ventilation rate could not significantly reduce the inhalation proportion of particles due to the poor airflow distribution inside the elevator.A more proper ventilation strategy should be explored for the elevator to control transmission risk.

Lithium-ion batteries are used in a wide range of ***,their cycle life suffers from the problem of capacity fade,which includes calendar and cycle *** effects of storage time,temperature and partial charge-discharge cycling on the capacity fade of Li-ion batteries are investigated in this *** calendar aging and cycle aging are presented based on the storage and cycling experiment on LiCoO_(2)/graphite cells under different storage temperature and different ranges of state of charge(SOC).Based on the measurement data,a one-component and a double-component aging model are presented to respectively describe the capacity fade caused by calendar and cycle *** calendar aging of LiCoO_(2)/graphite batteries is mainly affected by temperature and SOC during the *** SOC and change in SOC(ΔSOC)are the main factors affecting battery degradation during cycling operation.

This study addresses the resilient sliding mode control(SMC) problem for two-dimensional cyber-physical systems(2D CPSs) characterized by the Roesser model under denial-of-service attack(DoSA), which can interfere with signal transmission over the communication network. First, the DoS-A model is established by introducing constraints on the Do S frequency and duration. Then, based on active or silent attack situations, the considered system is described as a switched mode. Furthermore, together with Lyapunov theory, the average dwell time technique is employed to deduce sufficient criteria that assure the existence of the desired sliding mode controller. Finally, verification examples are provided to show the validity of the established SMC scheme.
