The development of effective and sustainable solutions for pleiotropic water purification becomes urgent and *** Fenton-like catalysts for activation of peroxymonosulfate(PMS)to purify organic wastewater show great *** this work,by tuning metal loading with an in-situ polydopamine coating strategy,oxygen vacancy-enriched Co_(3.O_(4) loading on N-doped carbon nanotubes(CNTs)were constructed to enhance PMS activation efficiency for pollutants ***,the obtained modified CNTs afford a well-developed N-containing network structure,which is further endowed with abundant Co(Ⅱ)/Co(Ⅲ)redox cycles and significant metal-carbon *** particular,the surface N doping in CNTs might induce the oriented enrichment of pollutants around the catalyst,which reduces the migration distance and correspondingly improves the utilization of reactive oxidative *** electron transfer efficiency of the catalyst can be further improved by incorporating oxygen vacancy-enriched Co_(3.O_(4).The performance results show that the optimal NC/Co-1 could mineralize 20×10^(-6)of bisphenol A(BPA)by almost 98%in 8 min.A low reaction activation energy(26.05 kJ·mol^(-1))in BPA degradation was demonstrated by the NC/*** importantly,NC/Co-1 can inherit excellent degradation performance towards oxytetracycline,2,4-dichlorophenol,and tetracycline,showing wide practical *** addition,by virtue of the photothermal conversion property,NC/Co-1 achieves an additive function for interfacial solar water evaporation(1.84 kg·m^(-2)·h^(-1),112.51%),showing impressive potential for clean water recovery under complicated environmental pollution conditions.

Study on the mechanism and reaction characteristics of metal-supported phosphogypsum as oxygen carrier in a chemical looping gasification application

This study aimed to explore the chemical looping gasification(CLG)reaction characteristics of the metal-supported composite phosphogypsum(PG)oxygen carriers(OCs)and the thermodynamic *** FactSage 7.1 thermodynamic simulation was used to explore the oxygen release and H_(2)S removal *** experimental results showed that the syngas yield of CLG with PG-CuFe_(2)O_(4)was more than that with PG-Fe_(2)O_(3.20/CuO40 or PG-Fe_(2)O_(3.3./CuO3. OC at 1023.K when the water vapor content was ***,the maximum syngas yield of the CO selectivity was 70.3. and of the CO_(2)selectivity was 23.8%.The H_(2)/CO value was 0.78,and the highest carbon conversion efficiency was 91.9% in PG-CuFe_(2)O_(4)at the gasification temperature of 1073.*** metal-supported PG composite oxygen carrier was proved not only as an oxygen carrier to participate in the preparation of syngas but also as a catalyst to catalyze coal gasification ***,both the experimental results and FactSage 7.1 thermodynamic analysis revealed that the trapping mechanism of H_(2)S by composite OCs was as follows:CuO first lost lattice oxygen as an oxygen carrier to generate Cu_(2)O,which,in turn,reacted with H_(2)S to generate Cu_(2)*** study provided efficient guidance and reference for OC design in CLG.

Resource utilization of drinking water treatment aluminum sludge in green cementing materials: Hydration characteristics and hydration kinetics

As a byproduct of water treatment,drinking water treatment aluminum sludge(DWTAS)has challenges related to imperfect treatment and disposal,which has caused potential harm to human health and the *** this paper,heat treatment DWTAS as a supplement cementitious material was used to prepare a green cementing *** results show that the 800℃ is considered as the optimum heat treatment temperature for ***-800℃ is fully activated after thermal decomposition to form incompletely crystallized highly activeγ-Al2O3.and active SiO_(2).The addition of DWTAS promoted the formation of ettringite and C-(A)-S-H gel,which could make up for the low early compressive strength of cementing materials to a certain *** cured for 90 days,the compressive strength of the mortar with 3.% DWTAS-800℃ reached 44.86 *** dynamic process was well simulated by Krstulovi′c-Dabi′c hydration kinetics *** study provided a methodology for the fabrication of environmentally friendly and cost-effective compound cementitiousmaterials and proposed a“waste-to-resource”strategy for the sustainable management of typical solid wastes.

Quasi-static and dynamic compressive behaviour of additively manufactured Menger fractal cube structures

This paper presents the first-ever investigation of Menger fractal cubes'quasi-static compression and impact *** cubes with different void ratios were 3. printed using polylactic acid(PLA)with dimensions of 40 mm×40 mm×40 *** different orders of Menger cubes with different void ratios were considered,namely M1 with a void ratio of 0.26,M2 with a void ratio of 0.45,and M3.ith a void ratio of ***-static Compression tests were conducted using a universal testing machine,while the drop hammer was used to observe the behaviour under impact *** fracture mechanism,energy efficiency and force-time histories were *** the structured nature of the void formation and predictability of the failure modes,the Menger geometry showed some promise compared to other alternatives,such as foams and *** the increasing void ratio,the Menger geometries show force-displacement behaviour similar to hyper-elastic materials such as rubber and *** third-order Menger cubes showed the highest energy absorption efficiency compared to the other two geometries in this *** findings of the present work reveal the possibility of using additively manufactured Menger geometries as an energy-efficient system capable of reducing the transmitting force in applications such as crash barriers.

Development of gradient boosting-assisted machine learning data-driven model for free chlorine residual prediction

Chlorine-based disinfection is ubiquitous in conventional drinking water treatment (DWT) and serves to mitigate threats of acute microbial disease caused by pathogens that may be present in source water. An important index of disinfection efficiency is the free chlorine residual (FCR), a regulated disinfection parameter in the US that indirectly measures disinfectant power for prevention of microbial recontamination during DWT and distribution. This work demonstrates how machine learning (ML) can be implemented to improve FCR forecasting when supplied with water quality data from a real, full-scale chlorine disinfection system in Georgia, USA. More precisely, a gradient-boosting ML method (CatBoost) was developed from a full year of DWT plant-generated chlorine disinfection data, including water quality parameters (e.g., temperature, turbidity, pH) and operational process data (e.g., flowrates), to predict FCR. Four gradient-boosting models were implemented, with the highest performance achieving a coefficient of determination, R2, of 0.93.. Values that provide explanations using Shapley’s additive method were used to interpret the model’s results, uncovering that standard DWT operating parameters, although non-intuitive and theoretically non-causal, vastly improved prediction performance. These results provide a base case for data-driven DWT disinfection supervision and suggest process monitoring methods to provide better information to plant operators for implementation of safe chlorine dosing to maintain optimum FCR.

Hydroxyl radical production by abiotic oxidation of pyrite under estuarine conditions:The effects of aging,seawater anions and illumination

Pyrite is widely distributed in estuarine sediments as an inexpensive natural Fenton-like reagent,however,the mechanism on the hydroxyl radical(HO^(·))production by pyrite under estuarine environmental conditions is still poorly *** batch experiments were performed to investigate the effects of estuarine conditions including aging(in air,in water),seawater anions(Cl^(-),Br^(-)and HCO_(3.^(-))and light on the HO^(·)production by pyrite *** one-electron transfer dominated the process from O_(2) to HO^(·)induced by oxidation of *** Fe(oxyhydr)oxide coatings on the surface of pyrite aged in air and water consumed hydrogen peroxide while mediating the electron transfer,and the combined effect of the two resulted in a suppression of HO^(·)production in the early stage of aging and a promotion of HO^(·)production in the later stage of *** of the surface oxide layers by aggressive anions was the main reason for the inhibition of HO^(·)production by Cl^(-)and Br^(-),and the generation of Cl^(·)and Br^(·)may also play a role in the scavenging of HO^(·).HCO_(3.^(-)increased the average rate of HO^(·)production through surface-CO_(2) complexes formed by adsorption on the surface of *** significant enhancement of HO^(·)production under light was attributed to the formation of photoelectrons induced by photochemical reactions on pyrite and its surface oxide *** findings provide new insights into the environmental chemical behavior of pyrite in the estuary and enrich the understanding of natural remediation of estuarine environments.

Temporal assembly patterns of microbial communities in three parallel bioreactors treating low-concentration coking wastewater with differing carbon source concentrations

Carbon source is an important factor of biological treatment systems, the effects of which on their temporal community assembly patterns are not sufficiently understood *** this study, the temporal dynamics and driving mechanisms of the communities in three parallel bioreactors for low-concentration coking wastewater(CWW) treatment with differing carbon source concentrations(S0 with no glucose addition, S1 with 200 mg/L glucose addition and S2 with 400 mg/L glucose addition) were comprehensively studied. Highthroughput sequencing and bioinformatics analyses including network analysis and Infer Community Assembly Mechanisms by Phylogenetic bin-based null model(iCAMP) were used. The communities of three systems showed turnover rates of 0.0029~0.003. every 15days. Network analysis results showed that the S0 network showed higher positive correlation proportion(71.43.) and clustering coefficient(0.3.), suggesting that carbon source shortage in S0 promoted interactions and cooperation of microbes. The neutral community model analysis showed that the immigration rate increased from 0.5247 in S0 to 0.6478in S2. The iCAMP analysis results showed that drift(45.89%) and homogeneous selection(3..68%) dominated in driving the assembly of all the investigated microbial *** contribution of homogeneous selection increased with the increase of carbon source concentrations, from 27.92% in S0 to 3..08% in S2. The OTUs participating in aerobic respiration and tricarboxylic acid(TCA) cycle were abundant among the bins mainly affected by deterministic processes, while those related to the metabolism of refractory organic pollutants in CWW such as alkanes, benzenes and phenols were abundant in the bins dominated by stochastic processes.

Removal of atmospheric methane by soil ecosystems and its controlling variables from microbial to global scales

Methane (CH_(4)), a potent greenhouse gas, plays a pivotal role in the dynamics of climate change. While CH_(4) emissions have been widely investigated,biological removal of CH_(4) by upland soils has been less explored. Understanding the mechanisms and factors affecting CH_(4) oxidation in soils is of paramount importance for devising successful mitigation strategies. This perspective paper discusses different types of aerobic methanotrophs and their activities under varying environmental conditions, highlighting the significant contribution of soil ecosystems to global CH_(4) sinks. We emphasize the need for in-depth research on variables controlling CH_(4) sinks on different spatiotemporal scales and the exploration of previously unidentified CH_(4) sinks, such as deserts and areas of glacier retreat.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs)as green battery systems have attracted widespread attention in large-scale electrochemical energy storage devices,owing to their high safety,abundant Zn materials,high theoretica specific capacity and low redox *** there are some thorny issues in AZIBs that hinder their practical application,such as low intrinsic electron conductivity,slow ion migration kinetics,zinc dendrites and side ***-based materials with superior conductivity,large polar surface and abundant active sites can simultaneously serve as cathode materials,electrolyte additive and protection layer of anode to regulate redox reactions of *** various materials have been used to improve electrochemical performances of AZIBs there is a lack of in-depth discussion on the regulation mechanism of MXene-based materials for *** this review,we elaborate the research progress of MXenebased materials in AZIBs,including their application in cathode materials and inhibition of zinc *** the future prospects and development directions of MXenebased materials that may improve performance of AZIBs are prospected.

Iron single-atom/clusters catalysts derived from iron-rich Enteromorpha after urea-saturation for Fenton-like reaction

Fabrication of single atom catalysts(SACs)by a green and gentle method is important for their practical Fenton-like *** this work,a high effective iron-based catalyst was prepared from the iron-rich Enteromorpha for NPX degradation via peroxymonosulfate(PMS).Both Fe-SACs and iron-clusters was fabricated from the intrinsic iron element in Enteromorpha after the urea *** Fe-SACs/clusters can achieve 100%of NPX oxidation within 20 min with the k_(obs)of 0.282 min^(-1).Quenching tests indicated that the radical pathways were not dominated in the catalytic systems,and strong electron transfer process can be induced in the Fe-SACs/clusters+PMS system by using the NPX as electron donor and FeSACs/clusters/PMS^*complexes as electron *** result was consistent with the phenomenon observed in the galvanic oxidation *** addition,the Fe-SACs/clusters was deposited onto the ceramic membrane(CM)by the spraying-crosslinking process to form a Fe-SACs/clusters@CM,which showed an effective and continuous NPX degradation in a heterogeneous PMS system.
