Upgraded durian genome reveals the role of chromosome reshuffling during ancestral karyotype evolution,lignin biosynthesis regulation,and stress tolerance

Durian(Durio zibethinus)is a tropical fruit that has a unique flavor and *** occupies a significant phylogenetic position within the Malvaceae *** core-eudicot plants are reported to share seven ancestral karyotypes that have undergone reshuffling,resulting in an abundant genomic ***,the ancestral karyotypes of the Malvaceae family,as well as the evolution trajectory leading to the28 chromosomes in durian,remain poorly ***,we report the high-quality assembly of the durian genome with comprehensive comparative genomic *** analyzing the collinear blocks between cacao and durian,we inferred 11 Malvaceae ancestral *** blocks were present in a single-copy form in cacao and mainly in triplicates in durian,possibly resulting from a recent whole genome triplication(WGT)event that led to hexaploidization of the durian genome around 20(17–24)million years ago.A large proportion of the duplicated genes in durian,such as those involved in the lignin biosynthesis module for phenylpropane biosynthesis,are derived directly from whole genome duplication,which makes it an important force in reshaping its genomic *** studies have revealed that genes involved in feruloyl-Co A formations were highly preferentially expressed in fruit peels,indicating that the thorns produced on durian fruit may comprise guaiacyl and syringyl *** all the analyzed transcription factors(TFs),members of the heat shock factor family(HSF)were the most significantly upregulated under heat *** subfamilies of genes encoding heat shock proteins(HSPs)in the durian genome appear to have undergone *** potential interactions between HSF Dzi05.3.7 and HSPs were examined and experimentally *** study provides a high-quality durian genome and reveals the reshuffling mechanism of ancestral Malvaceae chromosomes to produce the durian *** also provide insights into the mechanism underlying lignin bi

Nested subset pattern(nestedness)is an important part of the theoretical framework of island biogeography and community ***,most previous studies often used nestedness metrics or randomization algorithms that are vulnerable to type I *** this study,we inves-tigated the nestedness of lizard assemblages on 3. islands in the Zhoushan Archipelago,*** used the line-transect method to survey species occurrence,abundance,and habitat types of lizards on 3. islands during 2 breeding seasons in 2021 and *** applied the nested metric WNODF and the conservative rc null model to control for type I error and quantify the significance of *** rank cor relations were used to evaluate the role of 4 habitat variables(island area,2 isolation indices,and habitat diversity)and 4 ecological traits(body size,geographic range size,clutch size,and minimum area requirement)in generating *** results of WNODF analyses showed that lizard assemblages were significantly *** habitat-by-site matrix estimated by the program NODF was also significantly nested,support-ing the habitat nestedness *** nestedness of lizard assemblages were significantly correlated with island area,habitat *** size,and minimum area ***,our results suggest that selective extinction and habitat nestedness were the main drivers of lizard nestedness in our *** contrast,the nestedness of lizard assemblages was not due to passive sampling or selective *** maximize the number of species preserved,our results indicate that we should protect both large islands with diverse habitats and species with largearea requirement and clutch size.

Nuclear phylogenomics of angiosperms and insights into their relationships and evolution

Angiosperms(flowering plants) are by far the most diverse land plant group with over 3.0,000 species. The sudden appearance of diverse angiosperms in the fossil record was referred to by Darwin as the “abominable mystery,”hence contributing to the heightened interest in angiosperm evolution. Angiosperms display wide ranges of morphological, physiological,and ecological characters, some of which have probably influenced their species richness. The evolutionary analyses of these characteristics help to address questions of angiosperm diversification and require well resolved phylogeny. Following the great successes of phylogenetic analyses using plastid sequences,dozens to thousands of nuclear genes from next-generation sequencing have been used in angiosperm phylogenomic analyses, providing well resolved phylogenies and new insights into the evolution of angiosperms. In this review we focus on recent nuclear phylogenomic analyses of large angiosperm clades, orders, families,and subdivisions of some families and provide a summarized Nuclear Phylogenetic Tree of Angiosperm Families. The newly established nuclear phylogenetic relationships are highlighted and compared with previous phylogenetic results. The sequenced genomes of Amborella,Nymphaea, Chloranthus, Ceratophyllum, and species of monocots, Magnoliids, and basal eudicots, have facilitated the phylogenomics of relationships among five major angiosperms clades. All but one of the 64 angiosperm orders were included in nuclear phylogenomics with well resolved relationships except the placements of several orders. Most families have been included with robust and highly supported placements, especially for relationships within several large and important orders and ***, we examine the divergence time estimation and biogeographic analyses of angiosperm on the basis of the nuclear phylogenomic frameworks and discuss the differences compared with previous analyses.
