Scapular fracture is exceptional in children, mainly occurring after high-energy trauma. Radiologic investigations help its diagnosis and classification, which determines its management. We report the case of a 14-year-old patient admitted for blunt trauma of the left shoulder after falling from a speeding car. The diagnosis of a displaced fracture of the body of the scapula was made, and non-operative treatment was indicated and carried out for four weeks, followed by physiotherapy for another four weeks. Nine weeks after the trauma, the mobility of the affected shoulder was equivalent to that of the contralateral shoulder.

It has been known since March 2013 that Artesunate is considered the gold standard treatment for severe malaria [1] 2">[2] [3]. However, in our regions, the drug of choice available to treat patients with severe malaria remains quinine until today. However, frequent and sequential use of quinine is associated with the occurrence of hemoglobinuria 2">[2]. We report a probable case of bilious hemoglobin fever (BHF) in an 8-year-old child. This was an 8-year-old child with a history of frequent and recent treatment with quinine, received in consultation for coca-cola urine emission with rapid diagnostic test (RDT) positive. In search of a particular terrain, the retroviral and syphilitic serologies were negative. Considering the context, the diagnosis of post-quinine hemoglobin bilious fever (BHF) was retained and the patient had progressed well after administration of artemisinin and its derivatives. The child was followed, on an outpatient basis, without any sequelae. It would therefore be prudent for the time being to avoid them in prophylaxis and self-medication.

Background Primary vesicoureteral reflux(VUR)is a common congenital anomaly of the kidney and urinary tract(CAKUT)in *** present study identified the possible genetic contributions to primary VUR in *** Patients with primary VUR were enrolled and analysed based on a national multi-center registration network(Chinese Children Genetic Kidney Disease Database,CCGKDD)that covered 23 different provinces/regions in China from 2014 to *** causes were sought using whole-exome sequencing(WES)or targeted-exome *** A total of 379 unrelated patients(male:female 219:160)with primary VUR were ***-four(16.9%)children had extrarenal manifestations,and 165(43.5%)patients showed the coexistence of other CAKUT ***-eight patient(23.2%)exhibited impaired renal function at their last visit,and 18 of them(20.5%)developed ESRD at the median age of 7.0(IQR 0.9–11.4)years.A monogenic cause was identified in 28 patients(7.39%).These genes included PAX2(n=4),TNXB(n=3),GATA3(n=3),SLIT2(n=3),ROBO2(n=2),TBX18(n=2),and the other 11 genes(one gene for each patient).There was a significant difference in the rate of gene mutations between patients with or without extrarenal complications(14.1%vs.6%,P=0.035).The frequency of genetic abnormality was not statistically significant based on the coexistence of another CAKUT(9.6%vs.5.6%,P=0.139,Chi-square test)and the grade of reflux(9.4%vs.6.7%,P=0.429).Kaplan–Meier survival curve showed that the presence of genetic mutations did affect renal survival(Log-rank test,P=0.01).PAX2 mutation carriers(HR 5.1,95%CI 1.3–20.0;P=0.02)and TNXB mutation carriers(HR 20.3,95%CI 2.4–168.7;P=0.01)were associated with increased risk of progression to *** PAX2,TNXB,GATA3 and SLIT2 were the main underlying monogenic causes and accounted for up to 46.4%of monogenic *** complications and renal function were significantly related to the findings of genetic factors in children with p

Vascular injury or interruption may play a role in vertebrate limb teratogenesis. Since 5fluoro- 2'- deoxyuridine (FdU) can cause vascular injury in the murine limb and skull prior to the appearance of skeletal malformations in these structures, we studied the effects of this chemical on skeletal development in the chick embryo and noted any vascular injury. The yolk sacs of day three ehick embryos (Hamburger and Hamilton states 17-19) were injected with solutions of vary concentrations of FdU in saline. The embryos developed until the 10th day of incubation when they were fixed for study. Uninjected, saline injected, and sham injected control embryo were similarly fixed. Upon gross inspection, frequent diffuse and saccular hernatomas, as well as fluid-filled blisters, were noted in the limbs of embryos treated with FdU. After the embryos were fixed and cleared, and the skeletons stained, significant skeletal malformations were observed in these limbs. Bony elements of both the upper and lower limbs were affected in at least some of the embryos. The combination of FdU-induced hematomas and blisters with associated skeletal malformations in the same regions of some embryos suggests a relationship between these phenomena.
