Infrastructure-as-a-Service(IaaS)cloud platforms offer resources with diverse buying *** can run an instance on the on-demand market which is stable but expensive or on the spot market with a significant ***,users have to carefully weigh the low cost of spot instances against their poor *** instances will be revoked when the revocation event ***,an important problem that an IaaS user faces now is how to use spot in-stances in a cost-effective and low-risk *** on the replication-based fault tolerance mechanism,we propose an on-line termination algorithm that optimizes the cost of using spot instances while ensuring operational *** prove that in most cases,the cost of our proposed online algorithm will not exceed twice the minimum cost of the optimal of-fline algorithm that knows the exact future a *** a large number of experiments,we verify that our algorithm in most cases has a competitive ratio of no more than 2.and in other cases it can also reach the guaranteed competitive ratio.

An Empirical Study on the Effectiveness of Adversarial Examples in Malware Detection

Antivirus vendors and the research community employ Machine Learning(ML)or Deep Learning(DL)-based static analysis techniques for efficient identification of new threats,given the continual emergence of novel malware *** the other hand,numerous researchers have reported that Adversarial Examples(AEs),generated by manipulating previously detected malware,can successfully evade ML/DL-based *** antivirus systems,in particular,have been identified as vulnerable to such *** paper firstly focuses on conducting black-box attacks to circumvent ML/DL-based malware *** attack method utilizes seven different perturbations,including Overlay Append,Section Append,and Break Checksum,capitalizing on the ambiguities present in the PE format,as previously employed in evasion attack *** directly applying the perturbation techniques to PE binaries,our attack method eliminates the need to grapple with the problem-feature space dilemma,a persistent challenge in many evasion attack *** a black-box attack,our method can generate AEs that successfully evade both DL-based and ML-based ***,AEs generated by the attack method retain their executability and malicious behavior,eliminating the need for functionality *** thorogh evaluations,we confirmed that the attack method achieves an evasion rate of 65.6%against well-known ML-based malware detectors and can reach a remarkable 99%evasion rate against well-known DL-based malware ***,our AEs demonstrated the capability to bypass detection by 17%of vendors out of the 64 on VirusTotal(VT).In addition,we propose a defensive approach that utilizes Trend Locality Sensitive Hashing(TLSH)to construct a similarity-based defense *** several experiments on the approach,we verified that our defense model can effectively counter AEs generated by the perturbation *** conclusion,our defense model alleviates the limitation of the mos

In the realm of public goods game,punishment,as a potent tool,stands out for fostering *** it effectively addresses the first-order free-rider problem,the associated costs can be *** incur expenses in imposing sanctions,while defectors face ***,these monetary elements seemingly vanish into thin air,representing a loss to the system ***,by virtue of the redistribution of fines to cooperators and punishers,not only can we mitigate this loss,but the rewards for these cooperative individuals can be *** upon this premise,this paper introduces a fine distribution mechanism to the traditional pool punishment *** identical parameter settings,by conducting a comparative experiment with the conventional punishment model,the paper aims to investigate the impact of fine distribution on the evolution of cooperation in spatial public goods *** experimental results clearly demonstrate that,in instances where the punishment cost is prohibitively high,the cooperative strategies of the traditional pool punishment model may completely ***,the model enriched with fine distribution manages to sustain a considerable number of cooperative strategies,thus highlighting its effectiveness in promoting and preserving cooperation,even in the face of substantial punishment cost.

We propose a unified 3D ﬂow frameworkfor joint learning of shape embedding and deformationfor different categories. Our goal is to recovershapes from imperfect point clouds by fitting thebest shape template in a shape repository afterdeformation. Accordingly, we learn a shape embeddingfor template retrieval and a ﬂow-based network forrobust deformation. We note that the deformationﬂow can be quite different for different shapecategories. Therefore, we introduce a novel multi-hubmodule to learn multiple modes of deformation toincorporate such variation, providing a network whichcan handle a wide range of objects from differentcategories. The shape embedding is designed to retrievethe best-fit template as the nearest neighbor in a latentspace. We replace the standard fully connected layerwith a tiny structure in the embedding that significantlyreduces network complexity and further improvesdeformation quality. Experiments show the superiorityof our method to existing state-of-the-art methods viaqualitative and quantitative comparisons. Finally, ourmethod provides efficient and flexible deformation thatcan further be used for novel shape design.

High-throughput computing(HTC) is a computing paradigm that aims to accomplish jobs by easily breaking them into smaller,independent ***,it requires a large amount of computing power for a long *** existing HTC frameworks are job-oriented without support for coscheduling with hardware architecture and task-level ***,most of the frameworks reach a limited scale,and their usability needs further ***,we present HTDcr,a job execution framework for the HTC on *** study aims to improve the throughput,task dispatching,and usability of the *** detail,the throughput optimizations include a sophisticated designed task management system,a hierarchical scheduler,and the co-optimization of the task-scheduling strategy with the application and hardware *** optimizations for usability include a programable execution workflow,mechanisms for more robust and reliable service qualities,and a fine-grained resource allocation system for the colocation of multiple *** to our evaluations,HTDcr can achieve outstanding scalability and high throughput on large-scale clusters for the HTC *** evaluate HTDcr with several microbenchmarks and real-world applications on Tianhe-2.and Sunway TaihuLight to demonstrate its effects on existing design *** instance,the task scheduling for two real-world applications integrated with the application and hardware characteristics achieves 1.7× and 1.9× speedups over the basic task-scheduling strategy.

Recent studies have indicated that foundation models, such as BERT and GPT, excel atadapting to various downstream tasks. This adaptability has made them a dominant force in buildingartificial intelligence (AI) systems. Moreover, a newresearch paradigm has emerged as visualizationtechniques are incorporated into these models. Thisstudy divides these intersections into two researchareas: visualization for foundation model (VIS4FM)and foundation model for visualization (FM4VIS).In terms of VIS4FM, we explore the primary roleof visualizations in understanding, refining, and evaluating these intricate foundation models. VIS4FMaddresses the pressing need for transparency, explainability, fairness, and robustness. Conversely, in termsof FM4VIS, we highlight how foundation models canbe used to advance the visualization field itself. Theintersection of foundation models with visualizations ispromising but also introduces a set of challenges. Byhighlighting these challenges and promising opportunities, this study aims to provide a starting point forthe continued exploration of this research avenue.

A Parameter Adaptive Method for Image Smoothing

Edge is the key information in the process of image smoothing. Some edges, especially the weak edges, are difficult to maintain, which result in the local area being over-smoothed. For the protection of weak edges, we propose an image smoothing algorithm based on global sparse structure and parameter adaptation. The algorithm decomposes the image into high frequency and low frequency part based on global sparse structure. The low frequency part contains less texture information which is relatively easy to smoothen. The high frequency part is more sensitive to edge information so it is more suitable for the selection of smoothing parameters. To reduce the computational complexity and improve the effect, we propose a bicubic polynomial fitting method to fit all the sample values into a surface. Finally, we use Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) to unify the whole algorithm and obtain the smoothed results by iterative optimization. Compared with traditional methods and deep learning methods, as well as the application tasks of edge extraction, image abstraction, pseudo-boundary removal, and image enhancement, it shows that our algorithm can preserve the local weak edge of the image more effectively, and the visual effect of smoothed results is better.

Cross-Project Defect Prediction(CPDP)is a method that utilizes historical data from other source projects to train predictive models for defect prediction in the target ***,existing CPDP methods only consider linear correlations between features(indicators)of the source and target *** models are not capable of evaluating non-linear correlations between features when they exist,for example,when there are differences in data distributions between the source and target *** a result,the performance of such CPDP models is *** this paper,this paper proposes a novel CPDP method based on Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique(SMOTE)and Deep Canonical Correlation Analysis(DCCA),referred to as *** Correlation Analysis(CCA)is employed to address the issue of non-linear correlations between features of the source and target projects.S-DCCA extends CCA by incorporating the MlpNet model for feature extraction from the *** redundant features are then eliminated by maximizing the correlated feature subset using the CCA loss ***,cross-project defect prediction is achieved through the application of the SMOTE data sampling *** Under Curve(AUC)and F1 scores(F1)are used as evaluation *** paper conducted experiments on 2. projects from four public datasets to validate the proposed *** results demonstrate that,on average,our method outperforms all baseline approaches by at least 1.2.in AUC and 5.5%in F1 *** indicates that the proposed method exhibits favorable performance characteristics.

Building a domain-specific compiler for emerging processors with a reusable approach

High-performance computing and deep learning domains have been motivating the design of domain-specific *** these processors can provide promising computation capability,they are notorious for exotic programming *** improve programming productivity and fully exploit the performance potential of these processors,domain-specific compilers(DSCs) have been ***,building DSCs for emerging processors requires tremendous engineering efforts because the commonly used compilation stack is difficult to be *** to the advent of multilevel intermediate representation(MLIR),DSC developers can leverage reusable infrastructure to extend their customized functionalities without rebuilding the entire compilation *** this paper,we further demonstrate the effectiveness of MLIR by extending its reusable infrastructure to embrace a heterogeneous many-core processor(Sunway processor).In particular,we design a new Sunway dialect and corresponding backend for the Sunway processor,fully exploiting its architectural advantage and hiding its programming *** show the ease of building a DSC,we leverage the Sunway dialect and existing MLIR dialects to build a stencil compiler for the Sunway *** experimental results show that our stencil compiler,built with a reusable approach,can even perform better than state-of-the-art stencil compilers.
