Rational design and synthesis of Cr_(1-x)Te/Ag_(2.Te composites for solid-state thermoelectromagnetic cooling near room temperature

Materials with both large magnetocaloric response and high thermoelectric performance are of vital importance for all-solid-state thermoelectromagnetic *** two properties,however,hardly coexist in single phase materials except previously reported hexagonal Cr_(1-x)Te half metal where a relatively high magnetic entropy change(-△S_(M))of~2.4 J·kg^(-1)·K^(-1)@5 T and a moderate thermoelectric figure of merit(ZT)of~1.2.10^(-2.@300 K are simultaneously *** we aim to increase the thermoelectric performance of Cr_(1-x)Te by compositing with semiconducting Ag_(2.*** is discovered that the in-situ synthesis of Cr_(1-x)Te/Ag_(2.Te composites by reacting their constitute elements above melting temperatures is unsuccessful because of strong phase ***,at elevated temperatures(T>800 K),Cr_(1-x)Te has a much lower deformation energy than Ag_(2.Te and tends to become more Cr-deficient by capturing Te from Ag_(2.***,Ag is insufficiently reacted and as a metal it deteriorates *** then rationalize the synthesis of Cr_(1-x)Te/Ag_(2.Te composites by ex-situ mix of the pre-prepared Cr_(1-x)Te and Ag_(2.Te binary compounds followed by densification at a low sintering temperature of 573 K under a pressure of 3.5 *** show that by compositing with 7 mol%Ag_(2.Te,the Seebeck coefficient of Cr_(1-x)Te is largely increased while the lattice thermal conductivity is considerably reduced,leading to 72.improvement of *** comparison,-△S_(M)is only slightly reduced by 10%in the *** work demonstrates the potential of Cr_(1-x)Te/Ag_(2.Te composites for thermoelectromagnetic cooling.

In the face of sudden pandemics,it becomes crucial for project managers to quickly adapt and make informed decisions that anticipate the consequences of their *** highlights the need for proactive management strategies to enhance epidemic response ***,current research mainly emphasizes the negative impacts of pandemics,often neglecting the development of adaptable management approaches for construction *** study aims to fill this research void by developing strategies tailored to managing pandemics at construction *** agent-based modeling,the study simulates the movement patterns of workers and the consequent spread of an epidemic under different risk scenarios and management *** results indicate that measures such as wearing masks,managing group activities,and enforcing entry controls can significantly reduce epidemic spread on construction sites,with entry controls showing the greatest effectiveness.

Bionic manta underwater vehicles will play an essential role in future oceans and can perform tasks,such as long-duration reconnaissance and exploration,due to their efficient *** manta wings’deformation is evident during the swimming *** improve the propulsion performance of the unmanned submersible,the study of the deformation into the bionic pectoral fin is *** this research,we designed and fabricated a flexible bionic pectoral fin,which is based on the Fin Ray®effect with active and passive deformation(APD)*** APD fin was actively controlled by two servo motors and could be passively deformed to variable *** APD fin was moved at 0.5 Hz beat frequency,and the propulsive performance was experimentally verified of the bionic pectoral fins equipped with different extents of *** results showed that the pectoral fin with active–passive deformed capabilities could achieve similar natural biological deformation in the wingspan *** average thrust(T)under the optimal wingspan deformation is 61.5%higher than the traditional passive deformed pectoral *** obtained results shed light on the design and optimization of the bionic pectoral fins to improve the propulsive performance of unmanned underwater vehicles(UUV).

Glycine betaine modulates extracellular polymeric substances to enhance microbial salinity tolerance

High salinity inhibits microbial activity in the bioremediation of saline *** alleviate osmotic stress,glycine betaine(GB),an osmoprotectant,is added to enhance the secretion of extracellular polymeric substances(EPS).These EPS are pivotal in withstanding environmental stressors,yet the intricate interplay between GB supplementation and microbial responses through EPS modificationsdencompassing composition,molecular architecture,and electrochemical featuresdremains elusive in hypersaline *** we show microbial strategies for salinity endurance by investigating the impact of GB on the dynamic alterations of EPS *** findings reveal that GB supplementation at 3.5%salinity elevates the total EPS(T-EPS)content from 12.50±0.05 to 2..58±0.96 mg per g dry cell *** observed shift in zeta potential from-2..95 to-6.2. mV at 0%and 3.5%salinity,respectively,with GB treatment,indicates a reduction in electrostatic repulsion and ***,the EPS protein secondary structure transition from b-sheet to a-helix,with GB addition,signifies a more compact protein configuration,less susceptible to salinity *** analyses,including cyclic voltammetry(CV)and differential pulse voltammetry(DPV),reveal GB's role in promoting the release of exogenous electron shuttles,such as flavins and c-type cytochromes(c-Cyts).The enhancement in DPV peak areas(Q_(DPV))with GB addition implies an increase in available extracellular electron transfer *** investigation advances our comprehension of microbial adaptation mechanisms to salinity through EPS modifications facilitated by GB in saline habitats.

Continuous-flow synthesis of polysubstituted γ-butyrolactones via enzymatic cascade catalysis

Polysubstituted chiral γ-butyrolactones are the core structural units of many natural products and high value-added flavors and fragrances used in the food and cosmetic industry. Current enzymatic cascade synthesis of these molecules faces the problems of low enzyme activity and phase separation in batch reaction, resulting in low productivity. Herein, we report a new continuous-flow process to synthesize the optically pure Nicotiana tabacum lactone(3S,4S)-4a and whisky lactone(3R,4S)-4b from α,β-unsaturatedγ-ketoesters. A new ene reductase(ER) from Swingsia samuiensi(Ss ER) and a carbonyl reductase(Ss CR)were engineered by directed evolution to improve their activity and thermostability. The continuous-flow preparative reactions were performed in two 3D microfluidic reactors, generating(3S,4S)-4a(99% ee and87% de) and(3R,4S)-4b(99% ee and 98% de) with space-time yields 3 and 7.4 times higher than those of the batch reactions. The significant enhancement in the productivity of enzyme cascade catalysis brought by cutting-edge continuous microfluidic technology will benefit the general multi-enzyme catalytic systems in the future.

An improved high-fidelity adaptive model for integrated inlet-engine-nozzle based on mechanismdata fusion

Nowadays,there has been an increasing focus on integrated flight propulsion control and the inlet-exhaust design for the aero-propulsion *** component-level models are inadequate due to installed performance deviations and mismatches between the real engine and the model,failing to meet the accuracy requirements of supersonic *** paper establishes a quasi-one-dimensional model for the inlet-exhaust system and conducts experimental ***,a mechanism-data fusion adaptive modeling scheme using an Extreme Learning Machine based on the Salp Swarm Algorithm(SSA-ELM)is *** study reveals the inlet model’s efficacy in reflecting installed performance,flow matching,and mitigating pressure distortion,while the nozzle model accurately predicts flow coefficients and thrust coefficients,and identifies various operational *** model’s output closely aligns with typical experimental *** combining offline optimization and online adaptive correction,the mechanismdata fusion adaptive model substantially reduces output errors during regular flights and varying levels of degradation,and effectively handles gradual degradation within a single flight ***,the mechanism-data fusion adaptive model holistically addresses total pressure errors within the inlet-exhaust system and normal shock location *** approach significantly curbs performance deviations in supersonic *** example,at Ma=2.0,the system error impressively drops from 34.17%to merely 6.54%,while errors for other flight conditions consistently stay below the 2.95%*** findings underscore the clear superiority of the proposed method.
