Sedimentary-tectonic interaction on the growth sequence architecture within the intraslope basins of deep-water Niger Delta Basin

This paper presents a 3D seismic-based case study from the deep-water Niger Delta Basin to investigate sedimentary-tectonic interaction on growth sequence architecture within the thrust-related intraslope or piggyback basins. Gravitational contraction in the lower continental slope had yielded a series of thrust faults and associated folds in the study area, which formed several piggyback basins. These basins were filled by a suite of growth sequences with varying stratigraphic architecture. Analysis of the 3D seismic data recognized three primary seismic facies types respectively as: convergent, draping and chaotic, which contain seven subtypes. These facies types are combined to form different filling successions for convergent or chaotic growth sequences. The convergent growth sequences mainly occur in the deep section of basin fills during strong gravitational deformation, and always began with convergent-baselapping strata succeeded by convergent-thinning strata, representing pond-to-bypass transition in the ponded-basin accommodation space. The chaotic growth sequences mainly occur in the shallow section of basin fills in response to weak gravitational deformation, and usually began with debris-flow deposits succeeded by channel-levee complexes, reflecting dominant erosion-bypass processes in the slope accommodation space. A dynamic fill-andspill model considering relationship between episodic sedimentation rate and structural growth rate is proposed to explain the formative mechanisms of growth strata units and associated successions. Interaction between glaciation or deglaciation and sea-level change and gravitational deformation history are suggested to be the factor which resulted in the complex stratal stacking patterns, including progradational or retrogradational stacking patterns within convergent growth sequences, and progradational stacking patterns within chaotic growth sequences.

Analysis on Vegetation Succession Model and Process under Groundwater Exploitation in Subei Lake Watershed

[Objective] The study aimed to analyze vegetation succession process under groundwater mining conditions in Subei Lake watershed. [ Method] A succession model for vegetation and burial depth of groundwater level was constructed based on field survey, and it was used to pre- dict the vegetation succession rules and process according to the changes in burial depth of groundwater level in Subei Lake watershed under groundwater exploitation. [ Result~ In Subei Lake watershed, aquatic vegetation was most closely related to burial depth of groundwater level, fol- lowed by mesophytic vegetation, while psammophilous and xerophytic vegetation did not have obvious relation with burial depth of groundwater lev- el. When burial depth of groundwater level was small, dominant plants grew well, but they grew worse or died with the increase in burial depth of groundwater level. As the groundwater level fell constantly, burial depth of groundwater level went up, and vegetation succession would occur grad- ually from aquatic vegetation to mesophytic and xerophytic vegetation, from Carex L. and Iris ensata Thunb shoaly land to Achnatherum splendens shoaly lands, from Salix psammophila shrubs to Artemisia desterorum Spreng and Caragana korshinskii shrubs, and from Populus simonii to Salix matsudana. [Condusion] The research could provide scientific references for studying the relationship between groundwater resources and ecological environment in Subei Lake basin.

Ground-Space Correlation of TM Data and Its Application to the Prediction of Gold Deposits

Abstract: It has been inferred and proved by the remote sensing equations under rational hypotheses in atmospheric physics that there is a linear correlation between the ground reflective brightness Wij and the total reflective brightness Rij received in different bands with a remote sensor. Nine models delineating the ground-space correlation between the ground spectra and the optimal bands of images of the typical gold deposits have been established based on the ground-space correlativity and field measurements of the ground spectra of the typical gold deposits in the Ailaoshan area. According to the 9 correlation models, TM images were inverted into ground-space correlation images that are related to the typical gold deposits within the area and then recognized by a computer. Research on the ground spectra and TM data in the Ailaoshan area shows that the correlation analysis of the ground spectra and TM data of gold deposits can be effectively applied to the prediction of gold deposits, location of prospecting targets, and extraction of imagery information of gold mineralization.

Erosion and transport mechanisms of mine waste along gullies

Mine waste debris flows continue to occur in China, and the disaster prevention and mitigation of these flows faces severe challenges since the mechanisms determining erosion and transport of mine waste along gullies are not yet fully understood. The erosion and delivery process of mine waste heaps was reproduced through flume experiments with the method based on field survey data of the Daxicha mine waste debris flow gully in the Xiaoqinling gold mining area. The results showed that the erosion and movement of mine wastes could be divided into three modes: minimal sediment movement, sediment sorting and delivery, and a large amount of sediment transfer. Moreover, there was an obvious amplification effect on peak discharge along with the formation and failure of temporary landslide dams during the erosion process. The correlation between the coefficient of peak discharge amplification and three dimensionless influencing factors, flume gradient, dimensionless volume, and dimensionless particle size, were comprehensively analyzed. An empirical formula for the coefficient of peak discharge amplification was proposed and verified based on 16 sets of experimental data. These preliminary results can provide a scientific reference for future research on disaster prevention and mitigation of mine waste debris flows.

Environmental and tectonic significance of Late Permian reefs in the Linxi and adjacent areas in inner mongolia of China

Many plateau-edge reefs and reef mounds of the Late Permian have been discovered in Linxi County and adjacent areas of inner mongolia, China. These reefs verify that the Hinggan-inner mongolia Area was an open and unobstructed sea-trough in Late Permian. Facies and sequences of reef strata in Member 4 and Member 5 of the Linxi Formation were studied for information to reconstruct the closing process of the Linxi-Jiutai chasm in the sea-trough, i.e., to constrain subsidence, uplift, and final closing. Ages of the reef-bearing strata have been determined to be late and end of Late Permian, based on ranges or abundances of diverse fossils. Six reef-building organic assemblages were distinguished, representing different ecologic conditions, according to morphological functions and paleoecological adaptations of organisms including primarily sponges, bryozoans, and calcareous algae. Two types of shelf slopes, the gentle slope and the steep slope, have been interpreted for Member 4 and Member 5 of the Linxi Formation, based on the assemblages. The locations of outcrops, and types of these reefs delineate the north margin of Sino-Korea Platform, and define uplift and final closing of the Linxi-Jiutai chasm at the end of Late Permian.

The North China Craton(NCC)is one of the most complex cratons in the *** underwent a series of tectonothermal events during the *** petrogenesis of potassic granitoids,the timing,and the style of Archean crustal growth are still *** field and petrological stdudies on the potassic meta-granites from the Guyang-Chayouzhongqi region were carried *** U-Pb ages,zircon Lu-Hf isotopic analyses,and whole-rock geochemical data were *** groups(~2.7 Ga and~2.5 Ga)of potassic meta-granites were ***~2.7 Ga meta-granites are mainly A2.type,with variableεHf(t)values(-8.4 to+3.3)and Archean one stage model ages(T_(DM)=~3.0 Ga),indicating that their source was derived from ancient anatectic TTG-like granite and depleted mantle,which suggests that thin crust had formed in the Guyang-Chayouzhongqi region by~3.0 *** to the K-rich granites in the NCC,most of the~2.5 Ga potassic meta-granites are typical of A1-type granite,and are enriched in Sm and Gd and depleted in Nb,Ta,P,and *** ages and isotopic data indicate that the~2.5 Ga meta-granites were generated from juvenile crustal sources with Neoarchean *** overall zircon U-Pb and Hf isotopic data furthermore suggested that the~2.7 Ga event is the most important stage of magmatic accretion in the NCC,similar to other *** contrast,reworking or metamorphic alteration was the main crustal process in the NCC at~2.5 Ga.

Depositional Environment of Es_4~u and Es_3~l Shales Based on Biomarkers from the Boxing Sag of Dongying Depression, East China

The Boxing Sag is located in the southwest of Dongying Depression, southern Bohai Bay Basin of East China. It is one of the main petroliferous sags in the Dongying Depression, and has two major source rocks, namely the upper 4th Member （Es4u） and lower 3rd Member （Es31） shales of Eocene Shahejie Formation, which are the new exploration targets in recent years. In this study, 16 core samples were collected from Es4u and Es31 shales in the Boxing Sag, and the saturate hydrocarbons were analyzed by gas chromatography （GC） and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC-MS）, respectively. The results show that Es4u shale has obvious phytane and gammacerane predominance, higher concentration of tricyclic terpanes and regular steranes, and very low concentration of 4- methly steranes; Es31 shale has pristane predominance, lower concentration of tricyclic terpanes, gammacerane and regular steranes, and higher concentration of 4-methly steranes. The Es4u shale can be further divided into two types based on the distribution of n-alkanes in gas chromatograms： normal distribution and double peak pattern. The biomarker characteristics and sedimentary facies distribution show that Es4u shale was deposited in the saline-hypersaline semi-deep （Type A Es4u shale, sag center） to shallow （Type B Es4u shale, sag edge） lacustrine environments, Es31 shale was deposited in the freshwater-brackish semi-deep-deep lacustrine environments, and the former sedimentary facies maps of Es4u and Es31 in the Boxing Sag are further modified.

Experimental Study on Water-rock Reactions with CO2.Fluid in a Deep Sandstone Formation under High Temperature and Pressure

Qiongdongnan Basin has a tectonic geological background of high temperature and high pressure in a deep reservoir setting,with mantle-derived CO2.A water-rock reaction device was used under high temperature and high pressure conditions,in conjunction with scanning electron microscope(SEM)observations,to carry out an experimental study of the diagenetic reaction between sandstone at depth and CO2.rich fluid,which is of great significance for revealing the dissolution of deep clastic rock reservoirs and the developmental mechanism of secondary pores,promoting deep oil and gas *** this study,the experimental scheme of the water-rock reaction system was designed according to the parameters of the diagenetic background of the deep sandstone reservoir in the Qiongdongnan *** groups of single mineral samples were prepared in this experiment,including K-feldspar samples,albite samples and calcite *** CO2.as a reaction solution,a series of diagenetic reaction simulation experiments were carried out in a semi-closed high temperature and high pressure simulation system.A field emission scanning electron microscope(SEM)was used to observe the microscopic appearance of the mineral samples after the water-rock reaction,the characteristics of dissolution under high temperature and high pressure,as well as the development of secondary *** experimental results showed that the CO2.rich fluid has an obvious dissolution effect on K-feldspar,albite and calcite under high temperature and high *** the three minerals,the main temperature and pressure window for dissolution ranged from 150℃to 300℃and 45 MPa to 60 *** electron microscope observations revealed that the dissolution effect of K-feldspar is most obvious under conditions of 150℃and 45 MPa,in contrast to conditions of2.0℃and 50 MPa for albite and *** the comparative analysis of experimental conditions and procedures,a coupling effect occurred between the temperature
