The study assessed petroleum systems in the southern Bida Basin,Nigeria,focusing on the Cretaceous *** comprise Lokoja and Patti Formation sandstones,while shales,claystone,and siltstone serve as source rocks and stratigraphic traps/*** studies delineating the key elements of the petroleum systems in the basin have not been conducted due to a lack of subsurface *** goal of the current study was to use field observations,Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and geochemical and geomechanical data to evaluate key components of petroleum systems in the southern Bida *** results presented in this investigation are intended to attain specific objectives,especially those lacking in the basin's study *** analysis revealed that the Lokoja Sandstone has porosity of 37%-39.5%and moderate permeability of 2..2.-42.2. *** Patti Formation sandstone reservoirs exhibited high porosity(38%-42.)and moderate to good permeability(31.54-66.48 mD),suggesting good potential *** results revealed intragranular pores and micro-fractures in the Patti Shale,whereas the sandstone reservoirs in the Lokoja and Patti formations displayed fractures,facilitating hydrocarbon *** was the dominant mineral in the sandstone units of both *** analysis revealed that brittle and clay minerals influenced the microstructure of Patti *** analysis indicated promising petroleum potential in the Patti Shale,with a total organic carbon(TOC)content of 1.87 wt%,free hydrocarbon from kerogen(S1)of 0.41 mg/g,hydrogen index(HI)of 0.75 mg HC/g TOC,and production index(PI)of *** Patti and Lokoja formations'shale,claystone,and siltstone exhibited sealing potential,with a plasticity index of 2.-35 and coefficient permeability of 2.8×10^(-4)-3.6×10^(-4)cm/*** studies,XRD,geochemical data,and geomechanical index values have confirmed the key components of the petroleum system,which in turn

Ultrahigh-temperature-pressure experiments are crucial for understanding the physical and chemical properties of *** recent development of boron-doped diamond(BDD)heaters has made such melting experiments possible in large-volume ***,estimates of temperatures above 2.00 K and of the temperature distributions inside BDD heaters are not well constrained,owing to the lack of a suitable ***,we establish a three-dimensional finite element model as a virtual thermometer to estimate the temperature and temperature field above 2.00 *** advantage of this virtual thermometer over those proposed in previous studies is that it considers both alternating and direct current heating modes,the actual sizes of cell assemblies after compression,the effects of the electrode,thermocouple and anvil,and the heat dissipation by the pressure-transmitting *** virtual thermometer reproduces the power-temperature relationships of ultrahigh-temperature-pressure experiments below 2.00 K at press loads of 2.8-7.9 MN(~19 to 2. GPa)within experimental *** temperatures above 2.00 K predicted by our virtual thermometer are within the uncertainty of those extrapolated from power-temperature relationships below 2.00 ***,our model shows that the temperature distribution inside a BDD heater(19-2. K/mm along the radial direction and2.0 K/mm).Our study thus provides a reliable virtual thermometer for ultrahigh-temperature experiments using BDD heaters in earth and material sciences.

Trace fossil evidences of an Early Miocene paleoseismic event and depositional regime change from the Kutch(Kachchh) Basin

Unconsolidated siliciclastic sediments can undergo post-burial deformation, which leads to the formation of distinctive sedimentary structures, known as soft-sediment deformation structures(SSDS). The presence of a series of sand volcanoes confined to a particular lithostratigraphic horizon can represent a paleoseismic activity and, thereby, exemplifies the concept of “seismite”. The Kutch Basin has been a tectonically active region since the initiation of eastern Gondwana rifting followed by a tectonic inversion during the Cenozoic due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates. A stratum-bound series of sand volcanoes belonging to the Khari Nadi Formation(KNF) is exposed along the banks of Khari River. They separate the shallow marine deposits below and non-marine deposits above with their characteristic marine and paleosol trace fossil suites, respectively. Although a seismogenic origin has been much debated for the SSDS,the ichnofabric analysis of the sand-volcano-bearing stratum unequivocally points toward such an origin under a shallow seafloor condition. In addition to the sedimentary regime change from an open shallow-marine setting to a continental depositional environment concomitant with basinal uplift, the behavior of the burrowing crustaceans testifies to a syn-depositional development of a fault network associated with the fluidization, sand volcanism, and the resilience of the trace-producers in surviving those processes until the sedimentary regime change in the overlying strata. Although the ichno-sedimentological evidence apparently differs from the previous works that proposed a continuous base-level rise from the beginning of deposition of the Khari Nadi Formation up to the middle part of the overlying Chhasra Formation, the paleoseismic activity,its ichnologic signature, and the depositional regime change refer to a higher-resolution(i.e., lower-order)sequence-stratigraphic change causing a short-duration regression within a longer-durat

Lower-order transgressive-regressive cycles within a higher-order transgression at the basin margin: an aberrant intercalation of palaeosol and biostromal ichnofabrics from the early Miocene Kutch Basin, India

The Chhasra Formation (CF) of Kutch Basin exemplifies a typical mixed siliciclastic-carbonate system with alternations of biostromal carbonate and fine-grained siliciclastic beds. The CF is subdivided into two members: the lower Claystone (CM) and the upper Siltstone(SM) member. Three CM outcrops (P1-P3) comprising buried palaeosols that formed under a specific environmental set-up involving imperfectly to poorly drained conditions, are exposed along the Berwali River. The biostromal carbonate beds, alternating with the palaeosols, contain invertebrate bioclasts(bivalves, gastropods, echinoids, etc.) and are characterized by a paucispecific firmground Thalassinoides ichnofabric. At section P1, below the contact between the underlying palaeosol and overlying carbonate, Thalassinoides transforms into firmground Gyrolithes inside the palaeosol forming a compound ichnotaxon. The palaeosol intervals of sections P1 and P2.consist of a Vondrichnus-Termitichnus-root trace ichnofabric defining the Termitichnus ichnofacies. At section P3, lenses of fully bioturbated siltstones with a monospecific firmground Thalassinoides ichnofabric can be observed within an overall silty palaeosol horizon, thereby, locally cross-cutting the pedogenic features. The ichnofabrics of section P3 indicate polyphase pedogenesis with three stages:(1) initial stage: pedogenesis in siltstone of undefined depositional affinity which was obscured by pedogenic processes,(2. transient stage: recurring marine incursions and colonization by crustaceans within the lens-shaped palaeotopographic depressions overprinting the palaeosol, and (3) final stage: subaerial exposure and another preserved phase of pedogenesis. The CM shows an apparent low-order T-R(transgressive-regressive) cyclicity within a 3rd-order TST (transgressive systems tract) that is supported by pedogenic intensity, ichnofabrics, and reciprocal sedimentation near the Miocene basin margin, though the cyclicity can be the result of both autoge

Since the Cenozoic,the Tibetan Plateau has experienced large-scale uplift and outgrowth due to the India-Asia ***,the mechanism and timing of these tectonic processes still remain ***,using apatite fission track dating and inverse thermal modeling,we explore the mechanism of different phases of rapid cooling for different batholiths and intrusions in the southeastern Tibetan *** contrast to previous views,we find that the coeval granitic batholith exposed in the same tectonic zone experienced differential fast uplift in different sites,indicating that the present Tibetan Plateau was the result of differential uplift rather than the entire lithosphere uplift related to lithospheric collapse during Cenozoic *** addition,we also suggest that the 5-2.Ma mantle-related magmatism should be regarded as the critical trigger for the widely coeval cooling event in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau,because it led to the increase in atmospheric CO_(2.level and a hotter upper crust than before,which are efficient for suddenly fast rock weathering and ***,we propose that the current landform of the southeastern Tibetan Plateau was the combined influences of tectonic and climate.

Genesis of the Jianbeigou Gold Deposit on the Southern Margin of the North China Craton: Insights from Fluid Inclusions, H-O-S Isotopes, and Pyrite in situ Trace Element Analyses

The Jianbeigou gold deposit is a typical lode gold deposit in the Qinling metallogenic belt, located on the southern margin of the North China Craton. Three stages of the hydrothermal process can be distinguished, including the quartz ± pyrite, quartz-polymetallic sulfide, and quartz-carbonate ± pyrite stages. From the early to late stages, the homogenization temperatures of primary fluid inclusions are 2.1–362.C, 2.7–331°C, and 149–2.1°C, respectively. The corresponding salinities estimated for these fluids are 3.9–9.9 wt%, 0.4–9.4 wt%, and 0.7–7.2.wt% Na Cl equiv. Combined with laser Raman spectroscopy data, the ore-forming fluid belongs to a H_(2.O-CO_(2.-Na Cl ± CH_4 system with medium–low temperature and salinity. The δ~(18)Ofluid and δD values for the quartz veins are-1.0‰ to 6.0‰ and-105‰ to-84‰, respectively, which indicates that the ore-forming fluid is of mixed source, mainly derived from magma, with a contribution from meteoric water. Pyrite has been identified into three generations based on mineral paragenetic sequencing, including Py1, Py2. and Py3. The pyrites have δ~(34)S sulfur isotopic compositions from three stages between 3.7‰ and 8.4‰, indicating that sulfur mainly originated from magma. Te, Bi, Sb, and Cu contents in pyrite were all high and showed a strong correlation with Au concentrations. Native gold and the Au-Ag-Bi telluride minerals were formed concurrently, and the As concentration was low and decoupled from the Au content. Therefore, Te, Bi, Sb and other low-melting point chalcophile elements play an important role for gold mineralization in arsenic-deficient ore-forming fluid. Combined with the geological setting, evolution of pyrite, and ore-fluids geochemistry, we propose that the Jianbeigou deposit can be classified as a magmatic–hydrothermal lode gold deposit. Gold mineralization on the southern margin of the North China Craton is related to Early Cretaceous magmatism and formed in an extensional setting.

Characteristics and geological significance of the stress state of the lithosphere in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its neighboring areas
