Microbiome research has generated an extensive amount of data,resulting in a wealth of publicly accessible *** annotation of these samples is crucial for effectively utilizing microbiome data across scientific ***,a notable challenge arises from the lack of essential annotations,particularly regarding collection location and sample biome information,which significantly hinders environmental microbiome *** this study,we introduce Meta-Sorter,a novel approach utilizing neural networks and transfer learning,to enhance biome labeling for thousands of microbiome samples in the MGnify database that have incomplete *** findings demonstrate that Meta-Sorter achieved a remarkable accuracy rate of 96.7%in classifying samples among the 16,507 lacking detailed biome ***,Meta-Sorter provides precise classifications for representative environmental samples that were previously ambiguously labeled as“Marine”in MGnify,thereby elucidating their specific origins in benthic and water column ***,Meta-Sorter effectively distinguishes samples derived from human-environment interactions,enabling clear differentiation between environmental and human-related *** improving the completeness of biome label information for numerous microbial community samples,our research facilitates more accurate knowledge discovery across diverse disciplines,with particular implications for environmental research.

Salinity is a major abiotic stress that hinders plant development and productivity and influences agricultural *** priming is a technique used to boost germination and seedling growth under abiotic stress.A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the impact of seed priming with potassium nitrate(KNO_(3))at various levels(0%,0.50%,1.00%and 1.50%)under salt stress(0,75,100 mM NaCl)on two maize verities(MNH360 and 30T60)for the growth,development and metabolic attributes results revealed that in maize variety MNH360,KNO_(3)priming’s significantly enhanced growth parameters than in maize variety 30T60 under control and salt-stressed *** with KNO_(3)enhanced carotenoids and total chlorophyll in the 30T60 variety that protected the maize plants from salt ***,it was shown that priming with 1.00%KNO_(3)acts as safeguarded to protect them from oxidative damage by salt stress minimizing reactive oxygen species(ROS)formation through increased levels of malondialdehyde(MDA),catalase(CAT),peroxidase(POD),ascorbate peroxidase(APX),and total soluble *** findings of the present study confirm that the use of the KNO_(3)seed priming technique is a lowcost,environmentally friendly technique for mitigating adverse impacts of salt stress in maize crops by activating the antioxidant defense system and improving chlorophyll and osmolyte contents.

In this letter,we comment on a recent publication by Mei et al,in the World Journal of Hepatology,investigating the hepatoprotective effects of the modified Xiaoyao San(MXS)formula in a male rat model of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH).The authors found that MXS treatment mitigated hepatic steatosis and inflam-mation in the NASH model,as evidenced by the reduction in lipid droplets(LDs),fibrosis markers and lipogenic ***,these hepatoprotective effects were associated with androgen upregulation(based on metabolomics analysis of male steroid hormone metabolites),adenosine 5’-monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)activation,and restoration of phosphatase and tensin homolog(PTEN)***,the authors did not clearly discuss the relationships between MXS-induced hepatic steatosis reduction in the NASH model,and androgen upregulation,AMPK activation,and restoration of PTEN *** editorial emphasizes the reported mechanisms and explains how they act or interact with each other to reduce hepatic steatosis and inflammation in the NASH *** a perspective,we propose additional mechanisms(such as autophagy/lipophagy activation in hepatocytes)for the clearance of LDs and suppression of hepatic steatosis by MXS in the NASH model.A proper understanding of the mechanisms of MXS-induced reduction of hepatic steatosis might help in the treatment of NASH and related diseases.

Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is a promising cancer *** study investigated the antitumor effects and mechanisms of a novel photosensitizer meso-5-[ρ-diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid-aminophenyl]−10,15,2.-triphenyl-porphyrin(DTP)mediated PDT(DTP-PDT).Cell viability,reactive oxygen species(ROS),and apoptosis were measured with a Cell Counting Kit-8 assay,DCFH-DA fluorescent probe,and Hoechst staining,*** apoptosis-and autophagy-related proteins were examined using western *** sequencing was used to screen differentially expressed mRNAs(DERs),and bioinformatic analysis was performed to identify the major biological events after *** results show that DTP-PDT inhibited cell growth and induced ROS generation in MCF-7 and SGC7901 *** ROS scavenger N-acetyl-L-cysteine(NAC)and the P38 MAPK inhibitor SB2.3580 alleviated DTP-PDT-induced ***-PDT induced cell apoptosis together with upregulated Bax and downregulated Bcl-2.which could also be inhibited by NAC or *** level of LC3B-Ⅱ,a marker of autophagy,was increased by DTP-PDT.A total of 3496 DERs were obtained after *** Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses indicated that DERs included those involved in cytosolic ribosomes,the nuclear lumen,protein binding,cell cycle,protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum,and ribosomal DNA *** Ontology and Reactome enrichment analyses indicated that DERs were associated with a variety of cancers and cell cycle ***-protein interaction results demonstrated that cdk1 and rps2.a ranked in the top 10 interacting ***,DTP-PDT could inhibit cell growth and induce cell apoptosis and autophagy,partly through ROS and the P38 MAPK signaling *** associated with the cell cycle,ribosomes,DNA replication,and protein binding may be the key changes in DTP-PDT-mediated cytotoxicity.
